First, my dogs LOVE Linn, which means they are treated well when they are there. I've been taking multiple generations of my cocker spaniels to her since the 1990's when she was in Sunny Brae! I do keep my cockers' hair short to avoid mats and keep them cool in the Summer. But, yes, they sometimes get matted and gross but Linn always calls me to discuss shaving them down, which I do if that is what she recommends. I have them groomed every 6-7 weeks which keeps them clean and looking good. She's also helped when my dogs have been "skunked". She got her smelling much better than I could at home. Her move to Blue Lake meant driving a little further but it is well worth it to know your babies area safe in her care. I highly recommend her. read more

I continue to bring my dogs to Linn even when she moved her business to a location farther away focusing only on grooming. We are an outdoorsy, active family and I trust her judgment and consult with her about what is the best cut for my pets. Sometimes they're long and gorgeous and sometimes the mats and sand and tangles from ocean or rivers are too much and it's time for a shave. I don't want my fur babies to suffer because I let them become a mess. The result is that my puppets like to go to Linn's and that's worth 5 stars!! read more

If I could give zero stars to Grooming & Boarding by Linn, I would. I brought my purebred American Cocker Spaniel in this morning to be groomed. Upon handing my dog over to Linn, I specifically showed her a picture of what I wanted his haircut to look like, a classic cocker cut. I told her that Thor had a few knots in his hair around his feet and that it would be okay to cut them out. She did that, and more--she completely shaved him! When I went to pick up Thor, there were quite a number of other customers waiting. Since they only had one person working the front desk, I quickly paid and was handed my dog. However, unlike usual, the receptionist brought me my dog, not Linn. And it was no wonder--she was probably too embarrassed to admit what she had done to his hair. A few minutes later after the majority of the customers had left, I went back and asked to speak to Linn, the manager. The receptionist wouldn't look me in the eye; clearly she knew what had happened. I straight up asked Linn for a refund and explanation of what had happened. I was seriously angry. She just shrugged and said that my dogs hair was too matted so she cut it all off. When I asked her why she hadn't called me to make sure if it was okay to shave my dog she answered with, "Well, I guess it was just too busy in here. I should have, but I didn't. I guess this is a learning experience for us both." Excuse me? Well, you're probably right Linn; this is a learning experience for us both. Maybe you can learn to be a better business owner and not just scoff at your customers once they walk away. And I'll learn to never take my dog back to your "business". My suggestion to other dog owners, if you truly care about your pet, is to take them to a groomer that cares about them just as much as you do. I really wanted to give Linn 5 stars unfortunately they are not worthy. so it's 3 at its best. They can be discriminating or maybe that's just their personality. She will not board small dogs, and she will close earlier on Fridays than her hours posted even if you are standing in the lobby. Best to call in advance for any service needed, but if you get the answering machine they're most likely gone. The location is convenient and the parking lot always has great spaces close to the entrance. Sometimes it's necessary to travel a little farther for better customer service. read more

I've been bringing two generations of dogs to Grooming and Boarding by Linn: about 20 years of boarding and grooming. We've always had wonderful experiences. My dogs tug to get inside the shop, and they burst into the back room to wait for their turn. The staff is very caring and knowledgeable, friendly, and my dogs look gorgeous when they come back home from grooming. I was very excited to find Grooming and Boarding by Linn, with what appeared to be a kind, considerate owner. Unfortunately, we had to cancel our first 2 appointments, due to work plans falling through. Both times, we made sure to personally call and speak to someone, to cancel the appointments. Today, my wife called to schedule, (for the same work training, which is finally a definite go!) and the manager told her that we wouldn't be able to schedule, as we had been a "No show" on 2 appointments, which she then told her we had failed to cancel. When my wife told her that both times she had spoken with someone to cancel, she told her that was not true because her records stated we hadn't cancelled. This is plainly inaccurate. When I called back, to try to smooth things over, I politely explained that both times we had called to cancel, with plenty of notice, and that they hadn't taken issue. She repeated what she told my wife, to which I stated that I didn't appreciate her calling my wife a liar. She said that she wasn't calling her a liar, but that because we hadn't cancelled, we weren't welcome to board Yukon and Odin there. This is a terrible way to run a business - what ever happened to the adage "The customer is always right"!? So what if someone forgot to write down that we cancelled - if I am stating that I did, (And I DID!) then shouldn't she take a potential lifetime customer at their word?! I'm sorry to say that I didn't have the wonderful experience it appears a couple of other people below have had. I just wish people running businesses had better customer relations skills. read more

Linn has groomed and provided doggy day care service for our dog Charlie for years. Four years ago, Charlie lost his companion dog and became depressed, stopped eating, didn't want to go outside anymore. We discussed the situation with Linn whom at that time took care of his grooming. She offered her day care services to us, and now Charlie is back to his old self. He gets excited knowing he's going to Linn's. When he's there he gets to hang out with other dogs for half a day, several days a week. Linn's fees are nominal and the service and expertise provided by Linn and her staff are exceptional. I recommend Linn's to all my friends. read more

I am new to Humboldt County. I am so glad we found Grooming by Linn. My two dogs, ages 9 and 11, had only gone to one groomer their entire life. I was very nervous to find a new groomer. My groomer called and interviewed people on the telephone without my knowledge and found Grooming by Linn. Even on the phone they were the best. My dogs love going there they even pull on the leash to go in the door. They are so excited to see them so I know they are treated well. Linn and her staff listen and do exactly what I ask for it with their haircut. I am very pleased every time I go there. read more
