Thank goodness for Muddy Paws! My pup Thor has never looked better! I decided to try out their services upon being referred by a friend who also had a cocker spaniel. After a haircut gone wrong from another groomer in the area, I was weary of letting anyone else handle Thor... But I went ahead and made an appointment at Muddy Paws anyway. When I first walked into MP, I was quite taken aback--in a good way though! When dropping off your dog to be groomed, they let the pups roam around freely throughout the office. Whereas Thor usually gets pretty nervous when ever I've left him at other groomers, he got comfortable almost immediately. In addition, the staff at MP are extremely attentive and caring towards the dogs. When I came back to pick up Thor, he was so busy playing with the receptionist, he didn't even notice I had walked in! I will definitely return! Muddy Paws does not disappoint in the slightest. I unfortunately took my husky to Muddy Paws in McKinleyville CA. In my defense & back in the day when I lived here before, it was ok. I had an appointment for 8am on 7/14. I drove 2 hours to make it. I asked for a TRIM on his paws & butt. Here we are 10 years later & I took my husky who got completely botched. I'm going to drop the photos here for everyone to review & make their own decisions. I know hair will grow back but this shows the "expertise" of the groomer. I know this review may do no good to the owner whose response to criticism has been quite colorful to say the least, but I do know that in a small town word travels faster than wildfire & I plan to take my botched pup to every local place to show off his "muddy paws look". Been taking my little buddy here every six weeks for almost four years now. The folks here treat my little old dog with so much love and caring that he looks forward to going to the groomers. That says a lot about the people who are here, they have taken great care of my little dog now for several years and he always looks forward to going to Muddy Paws. The staff at Muddy Paws is awesome! They care about the dogs (and cats) that they see. These folks are happy to greet you, excited to see my Willow; they smile and greet her and treat her like she is a queen! Not all groomers do this. Really! I feel comfortable taking my best friend there to be pampered & made (even more) beautiful. The space is clean,they ask specific questions to make sure your dog's needs are addressed..mine is good with other dogs so is able to socialize a bit after her bath & cut. Other pups who are less social have quieter solo space to hang out. Willow always gets compliments on her cut & bandana. Prices are in line with area costs and totally worth it! The issue here is that *in my experience*, the price fluctuates depending on if you call for a verbal quote, or go in to read the written down prices yourself. No one is perfect and this happens everywhere. When I called, I was not asked about my dog's breed, I did tell the person I talked to my dog's weight, but that was it. It was my first time here, so I'm assuming it was just a miscommunication that I was misquoted on price. In my experience, this is something most business owners apologize for causing confusion over and privately gently re-educate their staff to make sure it doesn't happen again. Another issue here is that dogs will have bleeding toenails if you cut their nails too short... it just happens sometimes. This can sometimes be painful for a dog. This is something that most groomers fess up to and most grooming places apologize about. Most pet owners are understanding about this... because ya know, again - no one is perfect and we have all been there. I'd love to take my reviews down and forget about the trauma this business caused my sweet goofy, loving Husky because it's in the past, and my dog is fine now with a gentle groomer. However, Courtney - the owner, responded to my review with immaturity, vulgarity, defensiveness, and breedism regarding me relating my Husky's experience. It's true, I did not initially want to leave a bad review, who does? But as time passed, I realized my pet had a bad experience here and that affected him at home. Since then he has had better experiences at other places. I wanted to leave a review as I didn't want it to happen to other Husky owners. It may have been more than a year ago, but I still remember being shocked when the girl who washed my dog told me that she sprayed my dog with water in the face. How is that acceptable? That is considered a punishment *in my opinion*. A better way would be to gently washcloth a dog's face to keep the water out of their ears and eyes, again IMO. In my opinion, a business can only improve if leadership is willing to accept their faults, own up to them with integrity to make things right to their customers, and consistently work to improve in all areas. One idea I have for Courtney is perhaps adding in cameras to the bathing area, so pet owners can verify the treatment of their animals. Accidents happen, so accountability with the truth of a camera - would be a win win for the business and pet owners alike. read more

I used to love this pet grooming shop!  I have a Himalayan chocolate point cat that sheds a lot during the summer. Every spring for the past 7 years he would come in for his fur shaved for the hot summer season. The staff was calm, kind, and patient with him, and they somehow got him squeaky clean, bright, and smelling like deliciousness. Best of all, he loved it like a day at the spa. And it was at an affordable price $35, since then it came under new ownership and the price continues to increase. Unfortunately the price quoted to me this year has more than doubled since the first time, and I've decided to groom him at home from now on. They treat my dogs right every time, the fact that they allow the dogs to roam around (behind gates) with other dogs in between washes is great because my corgi loves making new friends. Having had enough time to let the anger of my previous bad encounter wash away, I stopped in with Lupine to give her a bath at Muddy Paws. The place is always clean and their grooming part of the business brisk. Beware going in there right before a holiday or on a weekend because even the self-wash will be packed with appointments. Call ahead and reserve a time. I love that they have tearless shampoo and will mix up some other stuff if your dog has different needs. In the past I have requested shampoo for itchy skin and skunk stinky-be-gone. They have ear cleaning supplies, spray to detangle hair and repel dirt longer, doggie toothbrush, cologne, and they'll lend you some nail clippers if you need them. All this for the VERY low price of $14! Plus, they have a card where if you buy X number of washes the next one is free. Awesome! They have good prices on the doggie schwag and have great hours. I would never, ever take a cat there, but for washing my mutt in Humboldt, this is the place. read more

We have had muddy paws take care of our Boxers grooming for about 3 years. We've had a tough couple of weeks and needed to reschedule a couple of times. Thd last time our appointment was rescheduled for Fri the 7th. We drive there and they're closed. Today I call to try and get Zuma an appointment and discover they won't schedule us. Why? Because my wife left a review that the owner Courtney felt was hostile. She told me if the review was deleted from google she would helps us. We are not submitting to this. I have been taking my dogs to Muddy Paws for years and have had a wonderful experience each and every time, so it's hard for me to comprehend why anyone would ever post a negative review for this business. I have some of the hairiest dogs in town who never enjoy being separated from me and I'm sure are a real chore for the groomer on duty when they show up. My dogs have always been welcomed with a smile and open arms, and comforted as they've watched me walk away. After their "all day spa day," my dogs are always happy and look beautiful. The past couple times I had been to take my cat in for a shave, I absolutely appreciated their accommodation and the thorough job they did. This time however, I was completely disappointed. Perhaps due to a change of staffing, being that I dealt with different employees than I had before; I received attitude and a complete lack of thoroughness. The matted fur and hygiene shave I asked to be completed, was not and there was no communication about it. I had to take her back in and ask them to try again. The charge of $35 is standard for nail trimming and a shave. But when you walk out wondering what exactly you paid for and having had to deal with a bad attitude, I decided I won't be returning. read more

They don't do the services you pay for unless you remind them while you are paying.  These guys groom hair, I go there to get my dog shaved down for her hair to be manageable. I've always given a good tip not the highest but reasonable but I know the feeling when getting a bad tip. I don't have a big dog at all, very small dog. It pains me to leave this review. But sadly I've gotten bad services I've been here a couple times. Each time I ask to get my dogs teeth clean it's always never done till I show up to pick my dog up & I have to remind them. So everytime their teeth cleaning services have disappointed me. I feel like tips are the universal way of security of service & gratitude. I've left a tip before asking them to put extra attention in to her teeth and still got bad services. Another instance I left a tip after for them after picking up my dog just to stop me & tell me they didn't do it.  I'm gonna start going to see another groomer. The cut was cute. My little guy was knicked several times in the head and shoulder area. He is a little dog (15 lbs) who's timid and fearful sometimes,but doesn't bark or nip. I know accidents happen, but this many bloody sores is unnecessary. 4 of the scabs are about the size of a quarter and random little nicks. With this many cuts, I wonder what else was done that doesn't have a scab? I just don't think I'd take him back. read more
