The ladies at Grooming Tails are so good with my little dogs. They always come out looking and smelling great!

I took my dog in for grooming at 2PM and was told he would be ready in 3-4 hours, which is already a long time. They close at 7, so having not heard from them, I showed up at 6:45 assuming he would be done. I was told it would be another few hours. At 9:30, having heard nothing, I called to say I was coming to get my dog finished or not. He was partially clipped and damp when I got him. I was charged the full amount. Elapsed time: 7.5 hours. Something is seriously wrong there. read more

I just picked up my cats from grooming and deshedding service. When I got home to check up on them, one my cats paws are bleeding very badly. Not just on one nail, but on both front paws (photo's attached). I called them to confront the store and they denied of knowing anything... They give excuse because she was climbing out of the tub so that's why the nail is bleeding.... Make that make sense. Look at the photos. They obviously look like the nails are cut too short and that is why they are bleeding. I have bath and cut nails for my cats before so I know what kind of injury is what. And this is not the result of the cat trying to climb out of the metal tub, which they claim. I understand that this one cat can be difficult, and if one nail start bleeding while cutting, they could just stop and let me know that they weren't able to finish completely because she was being difficult, I completely understand. It also looks like they did not de-shed them because when I pet them, so many furs came out. And they had the audacity to charged the full amount and did not let me know anything. New to the area so had to choose a new groomer. They were friendly but this was the worst groom my doodle has had, so we won't be back. I keep him short in the summer and his hair was cut very uneven all over. Strips of hair that were missed with the trimmers. His head and face were cut sloppy and sticking up everywhere. Always bring my Mini mutt here for the stench removal. She hates this place, can't imagine why, she adores attention and they appear to really lay it on. Today she smells terrible. Tonight she's welcomed once again in the couch next to me. Tomorrow or very soon I expect she'll root around in the snow and find something that smells like or is actually some dogshit and the cycle will continue. I am uncertain as to which malevolent individual determined that it was permissible to subject my puppy to such horrific grooming and facial cutting. This is her current appearance and the appearance she possessed this morning. Their response was that my dog was "neglected" and that they were required to remove all of her fur. My loved 4-month puppy almost LOST a leg at Groomingtails Pet Salon. If you have plans to groom your pets here, Look at the my uploaded pictures and think twice! I dropped off my healthy puppy for grooming in the morning. Around noon time, I was told she fell from a top kennel after the employee opened the kennel door. The employee didn't catch her in the air and she injured her leg. I took her to the vet immediately. Her leg bone was found broken in the X-Ray. An immediate surgery was the only option to save the leg. She had the surgery at MVS. She was hospitalized for 3 days until released. Now she is on medications 3 times a day and need supervising and helps at all times for at least Three weeks. It's not what I would expect when I sent her to Groomingtails Pet Salon. I spoke to the owner Kerri Jacobson after the incident. She said there was nothing she could do to prevent it happening again in the future. The best they can do is to try to catch the puppy in the air before the puppy fell on the ground. Pet safety is not even a thing in her mind. No matter how great the grooming is, SAFETY should always go first. In additional, Kerri said she didn't have money (reserve) to pay the medical bill for the incident. Now her insurance company is evaluating the claim which can take weeks, months. read more

Contrary to the one negative review, I can attest that they can handle large dogs. I brought my new rescue dog, Daisuke, here. He came to us very overweight, so he's a 90lb. Belgian Malinois. He loves to roll around outside, so I thought it was good to get professionals to groom him. He smelled amazing afterwards! The house smelled great too when he returned. Kerri was prompt with responding to my inquiries on Yelp and was able to set up an appointment right away. This incident happened on March 8th 2020. I am posting this review now because some friends of ours were talking about what happened & if I ever wrote a review & when I said no they convinced me to do it now. The owner Kerri Jacobson who was also Henrys groomer was having staffing issues & had a nervous breakdown. We know this because while we were waiting outside the other owner who is her husband showed up & told us. He was drunk as a skunk & even had a small bottle of booze in his back pocket & spilled the beans about how his Wife can't get herself to reprimand her staff. The biggest problem that we have is that our appointment was at 9:00am & we were told 3 to 4 hours for the grooming. We NEVER got a phone call to let us know what was going on. We only knew that he wasn't done when Scott went inside at 4:45 & was told another 20 to 45 minutes. We went to eat & came back & waited some more & didn't get to take Henry home until 8 ish. Needless to say we will NEVER take Henry there again. It was a bad situation that got progressively worse as the day went on. It was traumatizing to Henry & to us. I have read the responses Kerri gives to people who have complained & she always blames the owner & their pet for what happened instead of taking responsibility for the negligence that happened on her watch. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG TO THIS GROOMER I have never ever complained to a business about anything in my life, and I hate to do it, but something needs to be said to warn others. I'd hate for others to have to go through what I experienced. I feel like I failed my dog by taking him here. They were unprofessional, incredibly unsafe and did a HORRIBLE job grooming him. I think the pictures speak for themselves but to sum everything up: 1. They shaved my dog even though I told them not to because he gets rashes and infection - and you should never ever shave a golden retriever. Any knowledgeable groomer would know this. I only asked for his paws, ears, and sanitary areas cleaned up + a small matte on his rear. I strongly communicated that I wanted his fur left long, as a standard golden retriever is supposed to be. 2. My dog had physical wounds all over his body when I picked him up. My vet was horrified! He needed a complete check up, medicine for his wounds to heal, and a cone to keep him from licking his wounds which was an additional cost due to their carelessness. 3. His fur was completely uneven with chunks out of it all over. 4. They had my dog for 8 hours total, 3 hours longer than they initially said. 5. The person that groomed my dog is a friend of the owner and does not presumably work there. She was acting incredibly odd and frazzled - while explaining her behavior she said "Sorry, I'm from Florida" ...?!?! 6. My dog was brought outside for pickup without a collar or leash. They came out their hands wrapped around his neck - and just stood outside the door with him like that on the sidewalk. They then asked what color his collar was - so I thought they were just covering it as a safety precaution to ask me to verify that it was my dog - but that wasn't the case. They actually didn't remember which collar or leash he had on and had to ask me so that they could go find it inside. I was immediately incredibly anxious and fearful for my dogs safety since he was OUTSIDE ON A BUSY ROAD WITH NO COLLAR OR LEASH. I didn't even have time to look at his atrocious grooming as I just wanted to grab him and get him into the car so he was safe. The groomer left me there by myself to do this while they went inside to find his leash and collar. I told them he had a red collar and black leash. She came out with a lime green leash and asked if that was it... 7. My normally very calm & happy dog was incredibly distressed and crying when I picked him up. 8. They charged me almost double what they quoted me. 9. When we got home, he immediately ran to poop & pee and drank 2 bowls of water. He also wouldn't stop crying and needing comfort. It was pretty clear that he did not have essential needs during that 8 hours. 10. Owner was defensive, didn't take responsibility, shifted the blame onto me, lacked compassion, did not follow-up as she had said she would, and couldn't seem to keep her story straight. When I called I was calm and said I really hate to be this person but I'm very concerned and have to say something. I explained all my concerns to the owner - about safety, the groomer, the actual grooming itself, etc. The owner clearly gets impatient with me, cuts me off, and defends the groomer (said she has 20 years experience) but then later said she was an intern (while the groomer herself said she was just a friend of the owners ) The lack of compassion, the defensiveness, and unwillingness to take responsibility is unacceptable as is putting my dogs safety on the line - and not to mention the horrendous grooming. Please do not put yourself or your fur baby through the trauma of sending your dog here. They clearly do not care about their customers or the animals. After reading other low reviews lately, I can see I'm not the only one who has experienced this. The owners response often lacks compassion and shifts the blame. There are so many red flags but unfortunately I didn't see them as they have cleverly buried them with so many other positive reviews. Don't be fooled. DO NOT bring your pet here‼ read more

I had my cat groom at this place. When I went pick her up and came back home, I was shocked to see that her paws were bleeding badly. After I checked carefully, two of my cat's nails were cut completely that I could see blood bleeding from her flesh. One of her paw was injured too. Her paw's flesh was completely exposed from the skin. I had to take her to the emergency room to make her stop bleeding and prevent serious inflection. The next day I tried to contact the shop owner and asking for full refund, after I told them the situation, they hang up on me and blocked my phone number. I went to the shop trying to find justice for my cat. However, when I finally met the shop owner in person, she had a very bad attitude and denied everything that the groomer did and saying that they are not responsible for anything that happened to my cat, although I had all the documentation from my vet! Not even a simple apology! I just can't believe that a so called '20 years experienced groomer' would ever do such things. You, Kerri, can discriminate me cause I am a foreigner, but you can't discriminate others and eventually other pet owners will find out how irresponsible and unskilled this place is. The owner Kerri (and my cats groomer) is an extremely hard worker that does an incredible job. If there's anyone out there who has a long haired cat, i could not recommend somebody more. People like this make me hesitate to move because i'm worried I'll never be able to find someone as good as her somewhere else. I will not be taking my cat back to grooming tails. The staff were polite which was nice, but I got my cat back with poop all the way up his long tail. He smelled awful, and the poop was matted into his fur. I had to come home to put my cat through more stress by trying to get it out. I am very disappointed. I am also disappointed by the way his paws look. 3 out of the 4 of them have blood stains coming out of the nails. I know for a fact that every other time I've gotten a nail trim on him, there has been no blood. After being home for awhile, he won't stop licking them which indicates that they hurt. I understand cats can be particular over how they are handled, but I wish if they knew that he wasn't tolerating the nail clipping well, they would have stopped. I had specifically asked them to keep the black hair on my dog's ears through messages AND in person. All the black was gone..no biggie but there wasn't any need to be so rough with my dog like that. My dog was matting a little, near neck and her back. They decided to give her a razor burn. My poor little FurBaby. I called them twice to check on her throughout the day they didn't even answer or returned my call or messages. They could have called me to ask if I wanted my dog's matting shaved instead of badly pulled which caused her skin to bruise so badly I had to take her to the vet. I specially told the blue highlighted hair girl while dropping my dog off that "if it needs to be shaved, do it, whatever you guys think is best for her". I didn't mean it like hurt my dog if need be. Absolutely unnecessary and totally preventable. It shouldn't have happened. On top of that, Kerri has the audacity to tell me "yeah it was preventable if you had brushed your dog regularly" like excuse me lady you know you and your staff screwed up and leave a bruise on my baby like that and now you have the audacity to come to me with such disrespect and tell me it's not the right salon for me? You're damn right, it isn't. I will take my business elsewhere where colored people are treated with respect. You didn't need to take it out on my dog. This place was very good the first time I went there in March, second time they screwed up and sent reaper our looking all choppy (This is when Kerri told me I'll put a credit on your account) third time they couldn't handle my dog anymore to they decided to hurt her like that and charge me full price...where did the "credit" go that was supposed to be on my account?? Absolutely ridiculous and downright rude. This was apparently the best reviewed place in Madison but I should have checked to see if they take customer of all races, based on their reviews, they don't. Totally pathetic. The least you could do is admit your mistake. I've brought my dog here several times while visiting family in the states, Absolutely love Kerri, so professional, and extremely gentle with my dog, I told Kerri I would be writing a review for her. Everyone who has given 5 stars truly knows how great this salon is. My dog Cosmo had some serious surgery not to long ago (I was smart listening to Kerri when she said to get him groomed right before the surgery), I could never imagine bringing my dog to a grooming salon a couple weeks after surgery seeing how hard it is for him. I do want to point out that that although we think we know whats best for our dog that, groomers probably know better, its a tough job and we don't appreciate how great they do (I attempted a home groom, never again!) We went here because a friend recommended it but the experience was absolutely terrible and we will not be going back. We made an appointment and the earliest one we could get was 3 weeks out, which is understandable. The day of, they called and canceled our appointment and said that the next earliest we could get her in was 3 weeks out again. It was highly frustrating because she desperately needed to be groomed but we said we could wait again. The day before our already rescheduled appointment they called and canceled. For the second time. I called and asked if anyone else could groom our dog because canceling twice was just ridiculous. They said no and made us wait another 3 weeks. Meaning we had to wait 2 months just to get our dog groomed. We drop her off in the morning and they told us she would be ready by 3. It was a beautiful day outside and we planned our day around picking our pup up. 3 rolls around and we get no call that she's ready. We call at 3:30 and they inform us that she would not be ready till 5. They made no attempt to tell us she was going to be ready 2 hours after the original time and only told us because we called them. We get there at 5 and have to wait in the car until 5:30 before they bring our dog out. We had showed them a picture beforehand of the cut we wanted and it looked like they just used the same blade all over her and did not even attempt to replicate the pic we gave them. I asked them why she was cut that way and they told me it was because she had a different fur type and would not claim any responsibility. Just kept blaming me and saying that it was the same and that I was seeing it wrong. They did not apologize for rescheduling our appointment multiple times or for making us wait hours extra to pick up our dog. She also came back with bleeding feet because they cut her nails to short. This review is a sad one to write. We have been bringing our medium sized golden doodle here for a couple of years - good experience and I also referred a co-worker who still brings her dog. Recently our dog was hit by a car and has 6+pelvic fractures and a hip fracture, and she is getting matted with lying down so much. I called to see if I could make arrangements for her to be groomed - an abbreviated visit so she isn't on her feet so long, and also a short time frame so she is less stressed. They were not interested in accommodating - they would not guarantee she could be there less than 3 hours, and were going to call me back the next day after again discussing with the owner, and they never did follow up. We were regular customers, and they had no empathy for this poor pup. It was disappointing. I rarely review anywhere, but felt this was such poor customer service, it was worth it. I'm also heading over to positively review the place that agreed to see her same day and have 2 groomers so one could hold her so she could be off her feet. They are going to try to complete in 1 hour. The evening I called to inquire. I am so grateful. read more

Do not go here! I tried this place for the first time and had a very poor experience. I will not be back. I called days in advance and made an appointment, yet when I got there they said they were very busy and it could be several hours before my dog would be done. So what was the appointment for? It ended up being around 3 hours, which was fine. When I picked my dog up, he looked clean but there were several spots where the groomer did not trim. I had to trim those spots when I got home. The scariest part was when I cleaned my dogs ears the next day. When I started cleaning, I noticed there was blood on the cotton ball. Somehow, the inside of my dogs ear got cut during his grooming, enough that he was bleeding the next day on the inner part of his ear. read more

One star is generous. It is surprising that this place is known for grooming doodles. We have taken our doodle puppy there twice now, and it has been a pattern of razor cuts on his body. Both times. It is obvious it's bothersome to our dog. I understand being busy, but when your dog is the first client of the day- there is absolutely no excuse to rush. I gave them a call to talk about the issue, and the outcome was excuses and saying sorry. Both times, with one of the times being in person. My scotty is difficult, to put it mildly. Everyone was kind and understanding. He came out looking great and we both were very happy.

I am verry happy with the service provided. They got Nugget on to the schedule quickly, provided accurate expectations of time, and sent me back a great looking dog. I also want to point out that I have taken Nugget to many different groomers and she usually comes out looking stressed. Kerri and Kelly are the BEST groomers I have ever come across in all my years of having pets. Kerri is our primary groomer for our three pomeranians of different ages and sizes, and she does a great job with them. They always look amazing after a groom! What a great experience. My dog is typically very nervous and afraid of everything. However at groomingtails they made her feel very comfortable. She also came out smelling fantastic and her coat was very shiny. My dog didn't require grooming services as she is a laborador retriever but her nails were nicely trimmed and she looked clean. and fabulous! We got many compliments on her walk afterwards! They are very affordable and accommodating, I would highly recommend giving grooming tails a try when your pet needs a bath! read more

Very Upset: I found my little cocker's eye damaged after grooming. She 13 years old, is very gentle and doesn't even bark. When I picked her up they rushed me out and it seemed strange. I think it was so I wouldn't notice the damage. Took her to the vet and $283.00 later we are treating her and hoping for the est. Will go to vet again this week. More than anything, the staff was not super warm and friendly. When I decide to take my dog somewhere for the first time, I want to feel welcomed and more importantly, I want them to welcome my pet in a friendly manner- to make me feel good about leaving them there. It was strictly business, matter of fact and not inviting or reassuring. I don't care how busy things get- you have to be able to not let go of the important things like: customer CARE. The groomer also looked totally unprofessional and unkept- like she just woke up out of bed. I was pretty alarmed to see this. The grooming itself was a 5 out of 10- no attention to detail really, there were areas that should have been trimmed better per my asking and were not. And one more thing- They are STILL doing curbside pick up/call....because of "COVID". Covid is here to STAY- This business model is inconvenient and ridiculous to put customers through. For the sake of not spreading the virus to others and your staff?? Even though, your groomers walked out to get my pup without a mask on and are inside NOT wearing a mask? You can't have it both ways- if you are really serious about spreading the virus, you don't allow your groomers to interact with people without masks when they go to get their dogs, or not wear them inside with each other after coming in contact with customers. And let me guess, is that also why my pup never got a cute scarf to wear, after the grooming (Like they get at every other groomer she has been to) because of "Covid" too? We will be doing business somewhere else, not a good experience all the way around- from the beginning to the end. As a business owner, I hope you take this feedback and actually do something about it, instead of defending yourself and your groomers. We stopped going here. We suspected that our dog, who regularly saw Carrie, was being abused and neglected when at groomingtails. I am under the impression that Carrie is the owner, but I am not sure. She gave me very bad vibes whenever I was around her. My dog truly hated it there. She once came home smelling so bad of urine and feces that we had to give her a bath immediately. She was likely thrown in a dirty kennel. Anyways, she never was willing to take ownership of mistakes. It is obvious the groomers hate their jobs, and all the animals suffer. read more

I was very impressed with how my long haired cat looked when I picked her up. I HIGHLY recommend this place. The staff was friendly and the location is great. My kitty smelled so good and looked so sharp with the lion cut. My cat hates being brushed so I was nervous about how she would do but they told me she did pretty good. I brought my Samoyed here for a brush out ONLY, while I normally groom her myself, I was 9 months pregnant and could not. They took about 4 hours to brush her (which is very odd....) and when I got her back they told me she was one of the best behaved samoyeds they've ever had. Which she is, because she's very used to being groomed by myself. When we brought her home, we noticed she had a scrape/cut on her nose. This was alarming because why in the world would my dog get a cut on her nose from being brushed? I get that accidents happen while grooming, but nothing sharp should have been near my dog for a brush out. Being pregnant was the only time I took my dog to a groomer, but never again will I be taking her here or anywhere. In light of the many cases coming about regarding grooming tails, I wanted to share my experience as well to warn other pet lovers to stay away from this facility.
