I had a great experience checking out Groove Damage and would recommend it for those seeking music media in the area. For a store that just opened months ago, the selection of vinyl was strong across genres and the prices were generally fair. Lots of rarities on the wall to get excited about but the bins had plenty of low-cost essentials too and good bargains down low. I wish them success! read more

I've been purchasing records from Nic for years and was thrilled when I heard he was opening a brick and mortar. Nic knows records. It's that simple. His knowledge of grails, rarities, and common records is evident in how he stocks the store with all killer and no filler. Very fair prices. Excellent selection. Genuine interest in sourcing and celebrating great music across all genres. I work at a record store in Los Angeles and still pay attention to what Groove Damage is selling because I know I'll find stuff that I can't find in most places...and at a price that beats the shops in L.A. Chip helped my daughter and I out and was so fun to chat with. He has a lot of background in jazz but as with many vinyl-heads, eclectic tastes as well. The shop has a lot to offer. Much of it is retail but there are some used diamonds in the rough, too. I was really excited about the prospect of a new record store in TO when they opened a few months ago. Nice selection, even though price is a little bit on the high side, but hey they've got the "grails" and "bangers" on the wall, ya know? Even bought a few of those myself so I was certainly rooting for Nick the owner. Well that all changed today: they posted a VU & Nico record for sale on their Instagram which they erroneously stated was a "torso" cover and it clearly was not based on their own photos (the "torso" cover is the true first pressing of this iconic album and commands much higher prices than the later non-torso cover version). I left a comment politely pointing out that it's not really a torso cover, and a few minutes later, I found myself blocked from their Instagram. No explanation whatsoever was given as to why (but apparently they have edited their post and removed statement about torso cover, so I guess they admitted I was right?). Hmm, ok, maybe I am old school, but this just feels rude and completely uncalled for, and all for a factually correct comment on a small (but important) detail of something they are selling? I wonder what would've happened if I told him in person in his store. Needless to say, I will not shop in here again. After all, there is another record store just a few blocks away whose owner and staff are much more friendly. Maybe Nick forgets sometimes that he is not the only game in town... read more

Great shop, a welcome addition to Thousand Oaks...deep selection of pretty much every genre except metal/hardcore, and good prices/eclectic collection of titles. Primarily used records, so it leans towards older artists...but new arrivals seem to come in pretty often so stock is constantly updated. If I wasn't local I'd make the trip to check out this shop, worth the drive. I found two lps I had been looking for for quite some time that i thought I would have to buy on ebay or dicogs to get a decent price on. Owner is cool/patient (he fielded questions from numerous walk-ins looking to sell their collections while I was there with a lot more patience than most folks would have), and there is a decent selection of tapes/music books/posters and a great bargain lp section with good playable copies of lots of notable titles. read more
