I recently came across this boutique from a friend's recommendation. It's fun to walk around to see the old and new treasures. I like some booths more than others. The main one that keeps me going back is Aaliyah's Collection's booth. I love the stuff in her collection. I'm loving the vases and decor she offers. Since I have found out about this place a few months ago, I have been 4 times now. The pieces in this collection have helped me update my home. Amazing shop! Great antiques, vintage, farmhouse decor and furniture. Also, lots of handmade and upcycled items.

Taking half a day off work on a Friday gave me time to discover this charming oasis for antiques and decor in East Simi. Never knew it existed, and just happened to notice it on the way to a nearby store. After taking care of my original errand, Dear Hubby and I came back to check out Aubergine Emporium. Still thinking about it two weeks later! Aside from several pieces that were really striking on their own, the total effect of the displays really hit visual high notes. We are hunting for more versatile and interesting storage pieces, and have tried other shops from Agoura to Santa Barbara since, but none lived up to the inspiration of this gem. Prices are very fair, and I appreciate the artfully repurchased items, too. Now that we've learned of its existence, we'll definitely be returning! Can't wait to see the seasonal changes they make, plus new "finds". read more

I love everything about Aubergine from the people to the ambience and design to the shopping experience. Beautiful, eclectic pieces at reasonable prices. It's hard to leave without something in my hands, like a vintage table, a wooden rooster or a metal sign. The wood, glass, metal mixes are abound. We discovered this great little shop while here from Redding, CA visiting family. What a great treasure trove of antiques and other items. We spent over an hour perusing stuff and ended up purchasing $160 worth of items. The co-owner that assisted us was extremely courteous and helpful. We will be back when we visit again read more

I really liked the CONTENTS of this store A LOT..... esp. for the likes of Simi Valley. They had all kinds of antique, or at a minimum, antique-looking things, running the gamut from furniture, lighting fixtures, books, kitchen stuff, all the way down to jewelry. I saw some thick (and very heavy) ceramic colored mixing bowls there, just like my mom used to have. Made me smile. I never saw anyone else with them 'cept my mom. I really liked some of their crystal bowls and other decorative pieces. The furniture was nice, too. What probably would have been 4 stars but got knocked down to 2 instead is because I was made to feel like I was a known and convicted criminal and had to be watched with my every move. While I was not being singled out, or who knows, maybe I was, there was a man following those of us walking through the store. It's not like he asked if we needed help, he stayed right there as long as there were people in any given room, and wherever we moved, so did he. My 61 years of age has handed me the experience to know when I'm being watched. The more he was trying to be inconspicuous, the more obvious it was what he was doing. The sad thing is that while he wasted his time with me or anyone else he was watching, he also lost a sale from me. I don't like feeling like I HAVE TO BE watched. It's insulting, frankly. To mistrust a customer because they've now entered your premises, put in cameras like most other stores, that'll take care of the problem..... but don't walk around following us like we're going to steal something. Those of us who are law-abiding citizens won't mind cameras, but to follow us around, it's more invasive and insulting than a camera. If you like antiques or that particular look, and if you can get past the fact that you will be watched for your every move here, then pay Aubergine a visit when you're in the area. You may enjoy it more than I did. For me, I won't be back. I don't do well with that feeling of mistrust. read more

While in the past, my Wife and I have enjoyed shopping here and have purchased many items, but our last visit revealed a bad taste of greed and egoism from the owner. We had stopped by to browse after having lunch and found a nice piece that would have gone quite well in our son's room. After speaking with the lovely salesperson, Linda, we discussed a price that seemed amenable to all. The piece had, apparently, been there for some time. She indicated to us that if we would like the piece to call her later that day and she would hold it for us. We returned home and talked about it and decided that we would, indeed, wish to buy the piece. We called Linda and she said to come back tomorrow and she would hold the piece. The next day we returned, as promised, and began to complete the transaction. Linda called the owner to finalize and was abruptly told she wouldn't honor the price and that the piece had "just come in". Somebody is lying to somebody at the store and we will no longer donate any of our funds to line the pockets of the greedy owner. Unfortunately, for her, there are many wonderful antique shops in our area and they shall be receiving our monetary contributions for pieces that we deem worthwhile. We are experienced antique shoppers and can see a fake a mile away. Be forewarned if you enter this store. read more

Definitely not a thrift store but that's not a bad thing. Lots of stuff to look at and everything is well organized (considering it's full of antiques). The prices seem to be in-line with other antiques mall stores I've been to throughout my years of picking. Why only 3 stars? Well it's because I'm more of a Goodwill guy more than anything but also because of another reason. As I walked through the store I felt as though I was being watched like a hawk. I understand the inventory is fragile and maybe the employee was just making sure she was there to answer my questions. Keep in mind I worked retail for many years and I can tell I was being closely watched so I wouldn't steal anything. I understand theft is a real issue in almost all retail environments but the pressure I felt drove me out. The pressure drove me so far out that I doubt I'll be back. Too bad. Found this store today...I absolutely love it! You know it's a great store...when three hours later I am still thinking about what I saw and where I can put it in my house. That's fun! The staff were great! They allowed me to browse like I like to first...taking in every corner of the large show floor. Then weI asked for specific help finding "a pie safe" and "birdhouses"...they helped me locate each one they had in the store. I would call that great customer service. I bought a beautiful original watercolor art piece, in a stunning wooden frame. They said it was done by the vendor herself, whom is an artist. I love it! I saw many things that I like. Let's be clear: Antique stores are normally dingy and have way too much stuff. They tend to be something between your grandma's house and a what's left over when a 60 year old Goodwill looks on the shelves way in the back. This place is just like that, but without the usual treasures tucked away. They have too little stuff for a solid antique store and too much for an upscale boutique. If you're in Simi, you're pretty stuck with this place. Which is a bummer. read more

Anthropologie, the creator of hip, has come to Aubergine to take pictures and to glean ideas for their stores. The owner is very kind, engaging and knowledgeable. They have really unique stuff here and most of it is reasonably priced. We've bought 3 or 4 times from Aubergine and we always look forward to going back to see what's new (old) there. LOVE the store. SO much to look at, I could wander around for hours and probably still not see everything. The owner (female) was not all that friendly and I overheard her giving an older lady customer a hard time about something, speaking very condescendingly to her. Then her husband (I assume) who was very nice...followed me around the store. Every time I turned a corner, he was there. I felt like he thought I was going to steal something. I get it. It's a large store. But maybe cameras? Or at least be in the area, doing something, arranging stuff, etc so it's not obvious that you are just watching people. I thought I was imagining it until I came here and read other reviews. read more

They were originally 99 dollars each but got them down to 2 for 175. I've been a regular customer of Aubergine Emporium for years. I love the way they have the store set up, and every time you go in there, there's something new! It's like they are constantly reinventing themselves, which I love! There's always quality items to be found at Aubergine, and at a very reasonable price. Whether it's an antique you are looking for, a collectible, or that one of kind item, Aubergine is where you should shop first! They have some really unique pieces! If they don't have it, they'll try to find it for me either somewhere else, or ask one of their vendors. The staff/owners are amazing! Their customer service is unsurpassed in retail in my opinion. I always look SO forward to going to Aubergine Emporium. It is so much fun to see what changes have taken place since my last visit. Recently the store expanded and the new addition is INCREDIBLY cool! Pat (the owner) is absolutely gifted with her design ability and is constantly changing her displays making each visit a new adventure. The store not only has TOTALLY amazing merchandise, but the displays are truly unique! So much fun... And unlike many antique stores that are overly cluttered, the merchanidse in Aubergine is always "featured" in some cool manner making it fun (and easy) to view and appreciate. The staff is friendly and Pat is NOT (as the post above stated) harsh with the staff or customers, she is friendly and quite helpful with any cunundrum you have in your home decorating. Allow me to begin by stating that antiques are my passion, each piece is like its own little novel, everything has a story, everything has a value for someone, if not now at some point in the past. Aubergine emporium understands and values this story. Beautiful merchandising and a clean, easy to navigate environment all tell the story of people who actually care about what they are selling, Antiques would not seem only to be the business o the owner, but her life. That being said, when this abrasive, self-loathing little dishwater blond blows in on her cloud of smoke, you know that you better buy something or get out of the way. However slight, and seemingly frail of appearance she may be, the owner is a very strong personality. Intelligent, calculating, and opinionated, she holds nothing back. This staunch type of personality works for some people, and goodness knows that you need a thick skin in the antique business, however, as a business owner one should know that not everyone is out to steal from you, swindle you, or devalue your merchandise. Keep it up girl, your place is one of the last great antique stores in an area that was once a destination for the antique community. If i may advise the proprietor, I will say this, every once in a while, try to take a deep breath (without a cigarette in hand) and try to remember, you are doing a great job, no one can steal your thunder, so try not to shoot so many lightning bolts at random customers, the burn marks are starting to show on your concrete floor. -A read more

This store has gone through many 'make-overs.' On my most recent visit (2/14) I was very impressed with the inventory and the redo. Lots of great goodies and basically pretty good prices. Fun! They close at 5, but the person in charge let me shop until after 5:30, which was very gracious and unheard of in most retail places. I love how large the space is, too!
