Super dope, cool spot record store I had driven around a few places looking for needle replacements for my turntables and of course they had them here. Mom and Pops style shop, which I love which also gives to their variety of different records. Pricing is decent cool location I really fell in love with this spot. They also have a lot of used equipment for sale if you're having a hard time finding vinyl or in my case, needle replacements check this place out awesome polite, staff ambience. read more

Anytime I'm in the area I stop by this place. And I seriously don't know why I still do. They have the most boring selection of records I've ever seen. Absolutely nothing that you can't find in the dollar bins at any other record shop. It seems like the owner doesn't care to procure any collections? Possibly the weakest record store I've ever been too. They have such an underwhelming selection it's sad. Their "rare wall records" are $20 bin records at any other store. They never get in new selections or seem to buy collections at all. Honestly it seems to just be new LPs they're selling now. All in all very boring and definitely not a place to go out of your way to check out. Staff was nice though. read more

My favorite record store in Ventura County! They also replaced our belt on our turntable. Grady's is our go to spot for records. Reasonably priced, good selection and quality. I also enjoy their bargain selection. No frills and make sure to check their hours. Parking is in the back. It is small store, but I always walk away with at least a couple of records. Sure there's the great selection, which really is unique because they keep a lot of rarities, niche, weird little bizarre releases on hand. And sure the prices are more than reasonable with a lot of stuff to play with in the $10-20 category and plenty of bargain records too. But it's the over-the-top customer service that has me floored. A quick story: I was visiting from out of town. I inquired whether they ship records and if I bought some records in person, could they ship it to my home so I wouldn't have to take them on the plane. Well, sure, the shopkeeper said. No problem. Ladies and gentlemen, this man sent me 13 records to DC in the *BEST* packaging. Tightly boxed, bubble wrapped, in two separate tight little bundles. This record store is crammed and overpriced. I like indie places, I support them, but not when I feel like I'm overcharged comparing to other LA based record stores. I don't like shopping on line, it's more fun browsing in stores. The selection is just OK, the place isn't the cleanest, but that's not the issue. Based on the Yelp reviews I had way bigger expectations, but I've been in better record stores, more reasonable priced. Parking in the back. Not impressed. read more

This isn't a particularly big place but they manage to cram in a nice, well-organized selection of all genres, and at reasonable prices. I found lots of records I'd been looking for and a few I didn't realize I wanted. They gave me generous store credit for the records I traded in. And one last thing - the employees were friendly. Amazing used selection at very reasonable prices, you will walk out with grails here. Staff is very knowledgeable and when I make purchases they almost always give me recommendations based on what I got or have interesting trivia about my picks. While visiting from AZ over Thanksgiving, I went to 3 record stores in the Ventura over the weekend, which included the Black Friday/Nation Record Store Day. This store did not have the largest selection, but was nicely curated section of used LP's and friendly customer service. Found a very nice Ohio Player's LP on Westbound for $15 and several excellent records in the $1 bin. A bit off the beaten path but worth the effort IHMO. read more

This place is amazing. First of all, if you like classical music, they have a selection of lps at $3 a disc and they're in amazing shape. We also found some great first pressings of some great jazz lps and found some great rock and blues discs as well. The vinyl was mostly in great shape and very reasonably priced. I can't wait to go back. Went yesterday-first time in ANY store since COVID and we felt very safe and comfortable. They ask you to wear masks and to wash your hands upon entry. We wore gloves, it made us feel safer. As always the selection and the quality are great. So glad this place is surviving. read more

I always stop into Grady's whenever I'm back in the ole VTA. Well organized, nice selection. Plenty of new vinyl if that's your thing. I generally grab a handful of their Dollar Pink Singles for my experimental listening pleasure. Usually able to find something in their eclectic dollar bin as well. read more

Gradys is in the top 3 best record stores in California. I have been coming by for years, whenever I am in Ventura and have never left without multiple awesome scores. Great prices, amazing selection. If you're into experimental/outsider/unusual records, this is a killer spot. read more

I went to Grady's today for my first time because I had an issue with my record player. Dan (dude at the register) was super helpful and friendly. He tried everything to figure out the problem. They aren't able to fix internal issues with a record player but he did recommend a place. Besides that, they have tons of great records & cd's. I'll definitely be returning soon. read more

Grady's is a great "little" record shop, the best in Ventura in my opinion. The one downtown, sheeh, pricey. So for prices Grady's in my experince is about average for record shops of its kind. I'm using places like Amobea, and LA stores in comparison. If you compair places like the swapmeet and like that, nah, Grady's would seem high, but it's not. I've gotten to know him and his guys over the past couple of years. Very friendly (unlike the young hipsters hanging out behind the register at places like Amobea, that make you want to kill...). I digress. Cool guys here and when they know you, they help steer you in areas. For me, they know what I like, so they tell me what is new so I can hunt easy. No deals, don' try to bargain off prices unless you really have a big handful....I mean big. A respectable place, they also have some audio equipment for sale as you can imagine, tapes, CDs, 8 Track, Laser Disk,....and so forth. If you have not been, its a fun shop. Not polished but I like that about them too. Unpretentious, is that possible with record collectors? Ha! read more

Ventura actually has a few great record shops, but for used vinyl, Grady's is king. There is nothing between Santa Barbara and Los Angeles that compares. Stacks and stacks of classic vinyl, and a dedicated owner who will sell you a reconditioned turntable at a reasonable price. Vinyl has made a small comeback recently, so big box electronics stores are carrying turntables again. New turntables seem to fall into two categories: dirt cheap with horrid sound, or ridiculously expensive high fidelity. Not long ago, most turntables were quite good, and Grady usually has a few on hand. I try to make it in once a month at least. I never leave empty-handed. Edit: Just saved me again today. I was able to walk in with a turntable with a broken needle and get a replacement cartridge installed for 25 bucks. That's not happening for you anywhere else in Ventura, kids. read more

Been here twice, both times I tried to start up conversations with 2 different people who were behind the counter. Shut down. If you don't like working there, find a new job! One was the owner, I think. Lol. He gave me an annoyed look when I asked if he had any free stuff left over from Record Store Day. No swag? C'mon. And I picked up a Grady's button for a buck, and even though I bought almost $30 worth of stuff, he charged me for it. D'oh! Anyhoo. Lots of stuff for a small store, even used equipment. Used CDs were disappointing. Dirty, especially in the dollar bin. You may sell a few of those if you clean the dirt off them, you know. :*p Used equipment blocks some of the CD selection. Used Mojo mags for $4, used CDs in the 'primo' racks were $8, overpriced, usually. Had better luck in the $4 CD dept. Lots of used records, but I couldn't tell you about them as I don't buy LPs. A few t-shirts to buy and other assorted goodies. I'll go back, as they're pretty much the only game in town, but I expect to find things unchanged next time I go in. Bottom line? Stopped by to pick up a carbon fiber record brush after speaking to someone on the phone. The guy working, whose name I didn't catch but had long-ish hair and glasses, told me all about the different methods to clean records and what they had available; I didn't feel like I was being upsold, but rather genuinely informed. I perused their records and they have a huge selection of multiple genres - they were a bit lacking in Depeche Mode and the Cure used stuff, but they did have a few new copies, (although they were out of my price range). I ended up picking up a used Dion and the Belmonts record in pretty good shape for $7, in addition to my brush for $13. Overall, good experience for someone who is just starting to delve into more serious vinyl usage. I'll definitely be back. read more

The shop is only 20 minutes north of Thousand Oaks which makes is very convenient to go and pick something up on the fly. My experience: I had a minor turntable repair done and picked up a needle for another one. Grady was very communicative, friendly and fair. I'm listening to some licorice pizza on it right now. Thanks! PS. I haven't been brave enough to browse the records with money in my pocket. I saw a lot of wants without even cracking the stacks. Just stopped by here today with the intention of just looking around and I walked out with three records. They have a pretty good selection. I see some complaining about the lack of hip hop, and to be honest I'm not sure since I had two kids with me who didn't have the patience to watch me browse through everything. I mainly stuck to my go-to rock stuff and I was surprised with the variety they have here. They actually had Tom Waits, which is crazy since I didn't think I'd ever find anything of his in stores. When in Ventucky take refuge at Grady's. The sprawling, popularly priced vinyl collection available to you is well-dusted. Complimentary in-house concerts are often presented upon the sturdy stage (nice sight lines!) and the PA is kickass. Cool employee. Just two tiny complaints: no Ticketmaster service and, though there is a very fair phonograph needle exchange program, there are no bongs (for sale) which renders it second only to the late lamented Wherehouse that used to be in the mall down the street. read more

Recently, I went into Grady's Record Refuge to ask for help in exchanging/returning a record I bought the week previous that was popping and skipping in places. A little background; I'd called the store and spoke with the owner after discovering the defects and asked permission for returning. He felt I must've not known enough to clean the record before playing it and was rude enough to say that to me. I assured him I had cleaned it properly and that it truly was skipping, no doubt about it and I would like to return it for credit. The lady behind the counter told me that I couldn't return it because I'd removed the price sticker and told me my receipt was not an itemized receipt. I mentioned to her I spoke with the owner about the return and he would allow a return. It didn't seem to matter to her that of all the records I purchased at Grady's Record Refuge during the past 2 months totaling roughly $120 or more I hadn't received a single itemized receipt. I told the lady that I was out of town and would appreciate her trusting that I paid what I told her I paid and that it was indeed the very receipt I'd purchased the record with. She didn't seem impressed and found other reasons to distrust my presentation, so I left with the record and thanked her for trusting me for the 7 bucks. She literally ran from around the counter as if to rush me, yelling and screaming "I"m done. Get the fuck out of here", and proceeded to lock the door behind me. Really?...asking for my lousy SEVEN BUCKS back deserved that treatment? Put a leash on your DOG, Grady. You might get in real trouble when she bites somebody. And while I'm at it; your records may be priced fairly, but they're not at all unusual or hard to come by online, anywhere, anytime and without the dog bite. read more
