I WANT to support local, in these days of everyone buying toys from Target and Amazon. I want to support small businesses in my community so they are there for years to come. Biggest issue in both locations is customer service. I have mostly had interactions with a blonde woman. I say this again to be constructive, this person does not smile, is not great at interacting with kids. I have had experiences where my kids knock something over because yah know...they are kids and this person seems so stiff and uncomfortable with kids. Generally the vibe isn't friendly. This is a children's store. No getting to know the customer, smiling, thanking them, or a "have a nice day". Selection of clothing has little price variety. It's all super high end. I understand margins for selling kids clothing must be tough but items are averaging $30-$40 I guess if you are buying a gift ... but as a parent it would be nice if they had some variety. Toy selection at both locations is great! They have variety and some really cool stuff. If I have a birthday party I like to take my kids to get something there. My pal Tiffani handles the store's social media, keeping its Facebook page and Instagram feed stocked with the most enticing teasers: everything from home decor, to jewelry, to clothing. For me, it was love at first "like." When I visited this past weekend with friends, I knew I'd found in this lovely place a soul mate (an expensive, high maintenance soul mate). The inventory is unfailingly stunning: gorgeous Asha jewelry, Blue Jean candles, vintage Union Jack steamers, luxe fur throws, ridiculously soft cashmere capes, and locally designed, oversized bangles made of braided rope. And even two pieces - a fur tote and a magnifying glass - both boasting seriously grand ivory tusks for handles. One hour in this two-level shop, home to so many beautiful treasures, wasn't enough for us. I don't think a minute passed where at least one of us didn't proclaim our love for some delightful item. Margaret, the owner of D&D, is so welcoming; she chatted with us the entire time. We shared a tin of her lemon drops as we explored the entire space and heard about the many ways she sources her breathtaking selections. It's a small miracle that I was able to walk away with only one item (a vintage gold chain statement necklace), because during my 60 minutes at D&D I easily fell in love, one hundred times over. Locals, rejoice: the store hosts a wine evening on Fridays! Sadly for me, the 45-minute drive from Providence makes it impossible to get there before closing time (sometimes, I think there are guardian angels out there that are saving me from myself). Fast forward a year as we visited from out of town and we brought this back as there was an issue with the item. We were told, "Oh that designer went out of business sorry." After taking the item out we were told to take it to a dry cleaner to fix it. Margaret seems generally happy to make a sale and take your money but God forbid if have an issue with a purchase you don't matter. Hearing from a relative that a friend purchased an item here, had an issue with it, and they were ignored I cannot in good conscience recommend this establishment. Good customer involves not only treating someone well during a sale but also during follow up and subsequent visits. EVEN IF THEY ARE NOT MAKING ANOTHER PURCHASE. Shame shame shame...
