Groucho's was a nice place to grab lunch. It was definitely old-school cool, and the girls that worked there were all really nice. I liked how they had the option to park in the back of the restaurant, as parking in Five Points isn't always the easiest thing. My actual food was pretty average, but it wasn't exactly a complicated order (a hot dog and grilled cheese), so I can't really comment on the quality of their product.  All-in-all, Groucho's in Five Points is a nice blast from the past, and I'd recommend it if you're looking for a classic place to grab a meal and sit down. read more

While in town for work, I had to stop by one of my go-to sandwich spots in Columbia--Groucho's Deli on Harden St. There was a fair amount of paid street parking, and once I walked in, I was quickly greeted and able to place my order with no wait. The ambiance was relaxing and causal just like I remembered it to be. I grabbed a booth facing the street and enjoyed my Apollo Dipper--a warm, melty combo of hot ham, turkey, and Swiss on a soft fat sub roll, served with their signature Formula "45" sauce (a must-try!). Groucho's has always been a staple of mine since I was little I love the location in Columbia and they're so nice and helpful there. I always grab the Apollo dipper which is really good and has ham and turkey and cheese on top and their chips and their dip whatever is in that special formula so good, so I was excited to come home and grab it. my family usually gets the STP dipper I believe, and those always look really good. I love that they put chips and a pickle and the sauce in it with it like the best combo for the Columbia is pretty easy to get to. There's a lot of parking nearby, and I also like doing it online and ordering it from there and then picking up. read more

A great spot for a quick lunch in Columbia! We were headed home from a swim meet at USC and stopped there for a bite- it was great, I couldn't tell you what two sandwiches we ordered, but the sauce/dip that comes on the side was great with it. It wasn't super clear walking in what to do, how to order, pay etc... but our server was kind and helpful! In case you're wondering, If you're eating there, take a seat at an open booth, they'll come to you, and pay at the cash register- they won't take the card from the table. If it's to go just go to the cashier and order! But it is just a clean, chill sandwich shop with lots of yummy offerings, definitely would stop again next time around USC. read more

I've been a regular customer since the very very very early days that the Five Points location has been in Columbia. The food is always consistently good, well prepared and presented and absolutely delicious! Customer service is always top notch. i have always felt welcome there whether I'm dining in or doing carry out. By the way can't wait until the Forest Drive location re-opens. Went here for a very late dinner with a good size group. We walked in 10 min prior to close and the staff was still super friendly and was willing to take our orders. The restaurant was very clean! The sandwiches are a good size and come with chips and a drink. One thing they could do differently is not add so much ice into the drinks! I am gluten free (celiac) and my experience here was great. I went here on a Friday afternoon and we sat at the bar top. The restaurant was clean. The waitress and another waiter took time to explain to me the menu and their favorite sandwiches and what was safe. They assured me they would take care with my GF roll and I watched them prepare my sandwich on a special board away from the rest of the prep area. My sandwich was absolutely delicious but more importantly I felt very safe here and I didn't get sick. read more

I grew up in the Philadelphia area, and know the value of a good sandwich shop. I was visiting Columbia to see an old Navy friend who was passing through. We had a large lunch at Little Pigs (see review) and weren't very hungry - wandering around 5 Points having a few beers as it started to rain. Happened into Groucho's about 15 minutes before closing time and decided that we really needed to eat something. Ordered a pair of STPs to go. I read reviews online regarding things that one had to eat when in Columbia. The STP was near the top of the list. Frankly, when the description said roast beef and turkey I was saw the image of overcooked meats from holiday dinners, so I wasn't overjoyed by the idea. The two young men working when we arrived welcomed us and almost immediately engaged in conversation. So lots of bonus points there. We talked of the college area and the history of Groucho's. I only had two complaints on the evening: (1) as we left the shop, it started to rain as we walked about 6 blocks back to the car, and (2) when we arrived back at the hotel to eat, we couldn't get to a proper table, so we had to eat with the sandwich boxes in our laps. It was a little messy. But the sandwich was not what I was picturing at first. The bread was fresh and tasty, the deli sliced turkey and beef were tender, juicy, and flavorful, just the right amount of melted swiss on top, and the 45 sauce did the trick to round out the flavor. All in all, it turned out to be a great experience. I'll be happy to do it again the next time I'm in Columbia! read more

Everything about Groucho's is awesome, and they're about to open a store in Raleigh too! Groucho's is unique to Columbia SC and is spreading their wings. Watch out, Jimmy Johns... Groucho's is going to blow you away :) They serve late-night sandwiches on Thurs-Saturday!! The owner/manager even gave me a free dessert just because :) great PR guys! This little deli serves up some amazing sandwiches with their house chips... and 2 sandwiches were only $15! The bread was extremely fresh, and the meat was freshly sliced. They call their sandwiches "Dippers" because they all have a dipping sauce that makes the sandwich extra tasty. Their STP dipping sauce is very similar to a 1000 island sauce but has a little kick and is delightful. Groucho's service is on par, their food is excellent, and their prices are unbeatable. I wish they'd share this local treat with the rest of the country because this is the place to go for sandwiches! I hope they can get a Yelp event in Raleigh soooooon! read more
