If you are looking for a place to eat in Olds don't even think twice and head to Grouchy Daddy's. This place had something for everyone with great appetizers, filling entrees and decadent desserts. I tried the special - Chinese 5-Spice Pork Stir Fry. There was so much pork I was surprised because so often stir frys have extra filler noodles and big veg with not a lot of meat but not this one. I had lots of leftovers. My partner had the Halibut and it came with Veg and Mashed Potatoes. It was so good as well. The drinks were also amazing and I would go just for those! They went down way too easy! Grouchy Daddy's has a few speciality cocktails and we tried a couple and both were yummy. The Caribbean really brought home the taste of the coconut and the Violet Crush was mulled blackberries! We also tried the chocolate cake. Made in house served with whipped cream - really why wouldn't you? And to top it off the service was excellent. Tiffany was flawless and the food came out within minutes it felt like. Will not recommend or go back to Grouchy Daddy's in Olds, AB Went for dinner at Grouchy Daddy's last night for Father's Day with my husband, daughter, future son in law and his parents. I will NOT go back to this restaurant and will NOT be recommending this restaurant to anyone. I ordered Asian Lettuce Wrap to find that I had bugs (quite a few - one's with wings) on the leaves. When the waitress put down the plate, first thing I noticed is that on the ridge of one of the romaine lettuce leaves were going bad - black on the edges. Then to see that there were bugs on each of the leaves. Told waitress, she apologized and said that there is a new chef in the back and that they are receiving some complaints. Obviously the lettuce was not washed or checked before coming out. I said that maybe they should have some better quality control. I ended up ordering the fish tacos. Now I am questioning, as well as our family, if there is anything else that could be wrong with our meals. How clean is it in the kitchen?? and who is cooking our meals?? Maybe a health inspector should check out this cleanliness of this restaurant. After we finished our meal, the waitress came back to say that they would be offering a complimentary dessert because of this. I declined and confirmed with her that I would not be charged for my meal. She confirmed this. We ended up paying for my meal (fish tacos) $19. You think that because of this inconvenience(BUGS on the lettuce!) that Grouchy Daddy's could not charge me for my meal altogether!!! but to only offer me a complimentary dessert that was $8-$9!! I NEVER complain when I go to a restaurant, but this was outrageous. So be careful when you go to this restaurant and check over your meal. Full disclosure, I'd never been to Olds. I've driven past it going along Highway 2, never giving it a second thought. When a GF wanted to test out her cool new ride and suggested a road trip to Olds for dinner, I trusted my fellow foodie, climbed in, blasted some tunes and away we went. The decor here surprised me, especially since we were in a small Alberta town. It was modern with a rustic charm to it. If you have anything at Grouchy's it's gotta be the mac & cheese bites! Noodles and loads of cheese are packed into battered triangles served with a chipotle mayo. My GF and I both got the cajun buttercream pasta (spinach and sun dried tomatoes tossed in a garlic sauce over fettuccini with a huge focaccia wedge), although we had to add a side of chicken to it which I kinda wish came standard. But totally worth it! The creole seasoned sauce coated everything perfectly and I loved it. There may not be lots to do in Olds, one thing for sure is to go to this local hangout (I ran into a childhood friend during my visit here!) and get some good eats! read more

I was very pleasantly surprised by my visit to Grouchy Daddy's though I've got to say, the name definitely doesn't suit it well. I was picturing more of a pub but it's actually more of a nice, family-friendly, sit-down restaurant. I dined here a couple months ago with a very large group (close to 30). They had set aside two long tables for us with all of the menus out ahead of time. I was a little concerned that we only had one server but she did an amazing job of taking everyone's orders and making sure all of the drinks and food came out around the same time. We were there for a wing night so as a vegetarian, I opted for a Greek salad instead. It was simple and fresh, exactly what I was looking for. As for drinks, they offer a good selection of beers and cocktails. Grouchy's is a great place to grab dinner if you find yourself spending some time in Olds. Went for a family birthday celebration lunch. We were seated at 2 log tables next to each other which was nice as you got to chat with more people being closer together. Service was a little slow for drinks to start. Had to keep asking for refills which is not too much of a hassle considering there were a lot of us. I tried the cajun buttercream pasta (garlic, cajun + buttercream sauce with spinach + sun dried tomatoes tossed in fettuccine noodles, served with a focaccia garlic wedge). It is $15.50 for a full size portion and $13.50 for a smaller one. Went with the smaller as I added chicken breast for $6.00 Sauce was ok tasty but a little more peppery than cajan. Chicken breast was bland and not really seasoned at all. Ok overall meal wise. I am a little choked to pay $6 for a chicken breast though. Seems super excessive price wise for what I got. Most everyone else seemed to enjoy their meal. If we are ever in Olds for food would consider stopping in again. read more

I ate a pepper that was a bit too hot and was not offered milk quick enough, cool name though. Milk very tasty and meal was pretty aight. Quick tip, get less hot peppers and keep in mind the customers will be inclined to eat as it is represented on the plate. read more

Came here for dinner on Friday on the drive back to Calgary after a week-long road trip. Boyfriend has been raving about this place for months and for a good reason. Great menu - lots of variety and very appealing. Was torn between a few options and finally settled on fish and chips. They're not kidding when they say giant! This was the biggest piece of fish fillet in a fish-and-chips order I have ever seen. Super crispy on the outside. The fish itself was quite plain but the seasoning was in the aioli that came with it, which was great. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Cute place and excellent service. Found this little gem while visiting didsbury and I loved the decor. Call me a city girl, but I was not expecting such a modern place in such a small town. They had a great selection of dishes, and the server was extremely nice. I got the fish and chips. Nothing too special, the fish was too oily. The dip was a dill type tartar sauce, which would have been a nice complement had it not felt like I was just eating a straight dill weed. The Greek pizza was very delicious, however. I asked my hubby to describe what he liked about it, and he said "it was really good". That's about all you're gonna get for a description on that end. The crunchy cinnamon donuts were half gone by the time I got back to didsbury. So. Good. I'd go back just for that. The reason I didn't give more stars was that she told me it was a 15min wait and it was 35min. Which would have been understandable had it been busy but it was middle of the day on a Saturday and there was maybe 5 tables occupied. i was impressed with Grouchy Daddy's the first time went there. The last two times have been below average though. I ordered a pizza and was unimpressed. It wouldn't take much to fix though. The pizza was dry, literally no sauce on it, and it seemed like everything on it was bland. The ground beef tasted like someone has just cooked it without any seasoning whatsoever. Same with some of the other toppings. The whole thing was just underwhelming. The service wasn't great either. As soon as the waitress saw that my table wasn't ordering alcohol she basically ignored us the rest of the night. It took her 15 minutes to refill my coke and it wasn't busy. As a general matter I am sick of being treated like a second class citizen because I don't drink. I still tip generously if the service is good. I will probably give this place another chance, but for now I wish that Stonewood was still open. read more
