This restaurant has an extensive menu! It's clean and their display of bagels was very nice. We ordered at the front counter and someone brought out our food. I ordered the Western Omelette which came with a bagel and hash browns. I thoroughly enjoyed it! It was a good portion for the price and that's appreciated these days! This place is ducked off in an office park area woth plenty of parking. It was clean and the employees were very pleasant! Even gave me a compliment! This Turkey Rueben on rye was chefs kiss and I think I have to attribute this to the bread lol everything was great but the bread made the sandwich! I also got the lobster bisque soup as my side. Flavors were pretty good. I got a reuben with potato salad on the side. My friend a Greek bowl. If you're going for large portions this is not the place but again flavors are there. The potato salad isn't what I'm used. It wasn't bad but not my favorite. There are booths & chairs/tables for sitting. It was pretty busy during lunch time. You can tell they have regulars. I've been here twice for breakfast only and they advertise a NY deli which is at the least a bit misleading. No salt bagels and only 7 bagel flavors available. And how about adding a roll to the menu? Nothing is more NY than a bacon, egg, and cheese on a roll. Every employee I spoke to during the 2 recent visits, English was clearly not their first language. The food was fine but lacked flavor. A $9 breakfast burrito was nothing more than eggs, sausage and cheese in a small flour tortilla. They need to flavor it up somehow. The kicker was the cook in the men's restroom the same time as me who pissed in the urinal and walked out without washing his hands. Maybe he washed in another sink after touching the door to exit but not cool, especially in front of a customer. It's really not that difficult to do when there's a sign posted on the restroom wall. Everyone was nice but it definitely shouldn't be represented as a NY deli because it's not. Maybe lunch is better, but after 2 visits, I doubt I'll try a 3rd time. It's no wonder there were only a few customers there for our 45 minute breakfast. While I'm at it, Covid was in 2020. Grew up near a bagel bakey in New York. This palce is spot on. Excellent food. Healthy and delicious. Their blavk bean burger on an everything bagel (no cheese for me) is the best veggie burger I have eve had! No exaggeration, the best veggie burger sandwich ever, in 34 years of being a vegetarian. I had lunch here with a co-worker one afternoon.... If you didn't know the place was here it would be very easy to pass it right by. Inside is a nice eating area with about a dozen tables and an order counter. The menus is extensive with many different sandwiches, soups, or salads. Everything is put together fresh right there. I was here for lunch but from all appearances it looks like they have a pretty good breakfast available as well. I ordered my sandwich and was given a number. I then sat at a table and waited.. it was not long and my food came out. It was a good sandwich! Good size with great flavor! I also ordered my wife a salmon salad to go. The prices were quite reasonable. Service was good, the food was great, the location nice.. this is one of those spots that you could make a habit out of going to easily... I've driven by Grouchy's NY Deli in Alpharetta many times, but typically it was late in the day and they were already closed. I finally saw an ad they posted on Facebook which ultimately directed me to their offer thru Groupon. So, I purchased one of their Groupon's good for three individual sandwiches or breakfast items. When I entered the restaurant for the first time, Katie greeted me immediately. She was very friendly and welcoming. She gave me a good overview of their menu and recommended a number of items. Katie explained that they offer breakfast all day on the weekends (Saturdays only, closed on Sundays). They also offer breakfast on weekdays until 11:00 am. I visited on the weekend, so the entire menu was basically available. I couldn't decide whether to order lunch or breakfast, so I decided to do both. I ordered the Grouchy Sandwich, which is a New York classic, with thinly sliced pastrami, piled high, melted Swiss cheese and deli mustard. It comes with a side, and Katie recommended the potato salad, which is delicious. I then decided to try one of their omelettes. The first time I built my own with ham and cheese. The second time I tried their Times Square Omelette with grilled pastrami, corned beef, and melted Swiss cheese (no grilled onions for me). The food was great. Everything tasted hot, fresh and flavorful. The omelettes come with your choice of toast or a bagel. I ordered a toasted Asiago cheese bagel with cream cheese. It complemented the omelette very well. Based upon Katie's friendliness combined with the taste and quality of the food, I would definitely recommend and consider returning to Grouchy's NY Deli in Alpharetta. My darling wife and I are both native NYers so pastrami sandwiches are a natural delight. Groupon in hand we visited Grouchy's for lunch and were greeted by Katie, whose charming and helpful personality were noted by other Yelpers. We split a Grouchy's special - pastrami sandwich with some crispy French fries and a dill pickle spear. I did think the sandwich could have been served with pumpernickel and rye bread and a little more pastrami. All our lives we knew of Matzo ball soup but had never ordered any (shame on us). So we also shared a hot bowl of Matzo ball soup. It was very good and had a soft dough ball swimming in chicken broth with carrot shreds. A little bit like a Jewish version of egg drop soup IMHO. Grouchy's has many other items on their menu and the breakfast offerings looked worthy of another visit soon. read more

Extremely rude staff AND manager. We were in there a while back, but I forgot to write a review, so I'm writing it now. We ordered a BLT, and the bacon was very undercooked, and we politely asked a server for a refund, and the manager came to our table and said (and I quote) you did not ask for crispy bacon, so we cannot give you a refund." Are you kidding me?! It didn't have so be crispy, I just didn't want my bacon to still be oinking! Just a subpar experience all around. It started when I stepped inside the door and encountered no greeting, just a blank and silent look from the associate behind the counter. My friend and I both ordered breakfast bowls and soon realized that the kitchen neglected to add salt or pepper. Imagine trying to start your morning with a mess of hash browns and overcooked scrambled eggs with no salt or pepper...pretty awful, right? The bagels were okay, but seemed to have been made with little or no malt syrup and did not seem to have been boiled. Malt syrup and boiling are important because they give NY-style bagels the requisite shiny exterior and snap when you bite into it. It's not a NY bagel unless this step is properly done. I have probably visited this deli a dozen times over the past 10 years. Don't make it a point to go here - location just convenient to meet some people and there is never anybody there so you can always find a table. I give the location, parking, and seating 4.5 stars...but the food and service is so bad...it brings the rating down. I've been coming here for years on occasion, and today is my last visit. This morning's breakfast was awful. Just got scrambled eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns. And a soft drink. The hash browns had an off taste, and the ketchup on the table was spoiled. The eggs were OK, but clearly no one in the restaurant ever checks the quality of their soft drinks from the freestyle machine. That was also awful... Flat and too watery. And I don't know how you can screw up toast, but the toast didn't taste right either. Hard pass on this place... Not coming back. read more

My daughter and I stopped in here for a late lunch. My daughter ordered an Italian panini with a side salad and I ordered the vegetarian panini. First I like that this place has vegetarian options. I am not a big meat eater so vegetarian options are appreciated. Our food came out relatively quickly and we dove in. My daughter had to ask for dressing for her salad but that was a simple mistake. She enjoyed her panini but I think we were both disappointed with the bread. There was nothing special about it. It seemed like a bun that was pressed for the panini. Others might be okay with it but we both would have been happier with one of the other bread options they have for other sandwiches. My vegetarian panini was good but the portobello mushroom for some reason was kind of tough. I am not sure I would order the sandwich again because of this and the plain bread it came with. The rest of the items in the sandwich were good, though. My daughter seemed to enjoy her side salad and did not dislike her panini but I think both of us will try something else if we stop in here again. I ordered a cucumber salad for my side and, wow, it was really good. I really enjoyed it and have to give this place kudos for also have healthy side options as choices. It had diced cucumbers, tomatoes and onions. So refreshing. The staff was pleasant, the tables and bathroom were clean. It was nice to see smiling faces, as well. My family and I stopped here when we were searching for a place to eat by downtown Alpharetta. When we walked in the menu on the wall was huge and it took us sometime to figure out what to eat. A couple of us got the Protein Omelet while the others for an Egg Sandwich, and we each got a bagel to eat. First of all, the food came out quickly. The bagels were toasted and were nice and crunchy but soft on the inside. It was a good start. My omelet was the perfect size. I would guess two eggs since I was able to finish it. The chicken with the spinach and feta cheese inside the omelet was a great combination. I ordered hash browns as well and they were nice and crispy. I would eat here for breakfast or brunch more often if I lived closer. But if you're in the area stop by for a good meal. read more

I'm from NY snd agree that it's delicious. Only tried one thing so far though. I got the grilled turkey reuben sandwich with side of pasta salad. Could've used more dressing. Maybe I ask for it on the side next time. Bread gets soggy fast from the dressing. Small portions. It was ok for me, but I'm under 110 lb woman. I could honestly still eat more, but I didn't have much bfast today. They do not serve the sandwiches this small in New York. I'm from Long Island. Both Italian and Jewish delis there put a lot more meat on your sandwich. Some folks might need two sandwiches to be full. So this might be pricey for the amount of food. A solid sandwich from an unassuming location. A co-worker of mine says "I want to get a Reuben", and as usual, I agree. I agree because it's tough to find a decent Reuben around these parts, and no, I don't want Arby's. This co-worker had eaten here previously, and he sore that their pastrami was pretty good, and he's usually correct. When he pulled into the parking lot, it felt like I was pulling into an accountant's office. This little area is really unassuming, and while not hidden per se, just doesn't give off the aura of "NY Style Deli". Who cares, I'm here for the sammich. We order, and just a couple minutes later we had a nicely proportioned Reuben with fries. The sandwich LOOKED small, but looks can be deceiving here. This sandwich packs way more oooomph behind it than it's first glance. It's almost as if it's daring you to eat it. Oh, don't worry little sammy, I'm gunnnn eat the whole thing! The service was spot-on, the prices are good, and that odd location thing is fun to toss around as a conversation point. That's it. Otherwise, a solid sandwich for a decent price. This place was pretty nice with a variety of food items: sandwiches, wraps, bagels, brownies, coffee, etc. They even have a breakfast menu too. I had the Caribbean jerk chicken wrap with the pasta salad being the side. The wrap comes with the option of a regular wrap, tomato basil, spinach, and I think something else. I went for the tomato basil, and it went well with the chicken. The wrap was warm and tasty. I do think the jerk chicken could have used more seasoning since it wasn't as flavorful as expected. It was overall good as the veggies were fresh. The pasta salad was on point as it had the perfect flavor and creaminess. The staff was friendly and cordial. I didn't dig the atmosphere too much since it was somewhat loud with the modern pop music playing in the background and chit chat of the customers. The inside had a somewhat dimly lit atmosphere. Parking was pretty available since people go in and out of this area fairly quickly. Look for BP & Varsity, and Grouchy's will be towards the back area. I like Grouchy's, although being from the Deep South, I know absolutely nothing about what a New York Deli would be like. I have eaten the Reuben at several local eateries, and have to say that theirs is the BEST around! And who ever is baking their lemon pound cake, please keep it coming, as it's just wonderful! When I'm running late for lunch, I check my watch to see if it's too late to make it down to Grouchy's, because it's the place I enjoy lunch the best. read more

The very last time I was here, I had a very unpleasant experience after finding a hair in my chicken salad sandwich . I was in the area today and thought I would give it another try. BIG MISTAKE! I ordered a BLT and could not even finish half! The bacon was obviously precooked (undercooked) microwaveable bacon that was so grisly and tough, it was impossible to chew. I politely requested a refund and was rudely told they "don't give refunds'"! So needless to say... we won't be back! Had the crispy chicken wrap and it was really yummy. Chicken had just been fried so pleasantly warm and crispy. My side was potato salad and it was excellent.
