Extremely shady company. Agreed on a shelter price in November. They said it would be installed in February and then they said no sorry march. Well sorry not March it's going to be April now! I had to call to every month to get an update on the "delay" then when April came they wanted $500 more than the agreed price! The lady told me the fine print says it's legal and they can do that. Well I'm done! They are not on time, on price and they are pulling the "fine print" on me. Not very good small town Oklahoma family business values to me. Rather dig a hole and die in it then give a company like this a dollar. I'm 100% sure at this point I was going to get a half ass product installed and have walked away for a far better shelter installer. I have to say I'm a bit disappointed with Ground Zero Storm Shelters. When I relocated to Oklahoma, I bought a beautiful home which happened to house an equally beautiful in-ground storm shelter in my garage. Coming from California, I was excited to have a home with a storm shelter. I'd never seen a live tornado up close before and figured a storm shelter was a good investment. Though, in my location, up until a few days ago, I had yet to see a live tornado up close. However, the time had finally come when the news forecasted a string of tornadoes to be coming my way that evening. My wife repeated to me what she'd gathered from weather forecasts. So, I jumped into action to prepare the storm shelter for use. Low and behold, upon sliding the hatch back, I discovered a pool of water sitting in the shelter. My shelter's registration information label from Ground Zero Storm Shelters is affixed to the top inner entry area of my shelter. Given that I'm not the original owner, I visited their website to see if I could learn why and how water was somehow able to penetrate the inside of my shelter. What I also observed on their site was an excerpt stating, "To ensure your underground shelter stands up to the test of time and natural elements, our lifetime warranty covers floating, leaking, and manufacturing defects. This way you can rest easy knowing your shelter is in prime condition whenever the next storm or tornado hits." I thought that was awesome and great business! I immediately called Ground Zero and gave the rundown about my situation. They asked for my registration number and how long ago I bought my home, before quickly informing me that the shelter is no longer under warranty. However, he proceeded to instruct me to pump the water out of the shelter, take photos and fill out a warranty claim online, and they'd get back to me in a week or 2 about what they could do for me. My faith was renewed. I did as instructed. I'm not sure how much water was present, but my pump claims to pump 600 gallons per hour and it took approximate 4 hours to drain my shelter of the water. You do the math. Upon draining the water, I discovered the wooden benches within to be decayed and the shelter floor and walls to be rusted, with the floor being completely rusted, orangish in color. The shelter clearly had not stood up to the test of time and natural elements. I'm not sure what stipulations surround their lifetime warranty mentioned online, seeing as that seems to be the only protection they offer against floating, leaking, and manufacturing defects. The manufacturing defect in question here, 'leaking'. This is incredibly dangerous. If my family were to have used that shelter during an active tornado and found ourselves trapped within, whose to say we couldn't have drowned? In fact, I found that similar circumstances took place with another family causing them to drown. When I asked the Ground Zero representative how common it is for leaking to occur in Ground Zero Storm Shelters, I believe his response was, "It happens like .001%, meaning it doesn't." Yet, when I logged onto Yelp, I saw a review, dated July 30, 2023, claiming leakage in their shelter. Moreover, I logged onto Google Reviews, and discovered 2 more reviews claiming leakage posted within the last month (1 of the 2, only a few days ago) and a third posted 2 years ago. I'll leave it up to the trier of fact to determine if their respective claims were legitimate. But this matter appears to be a bit more common than I was led to believe. There is undoubtedly a manufacturing defect, specifically 'leaking'. So, I can't say whether or not these shelters actually exceed FEMA standards. I was informed by other storm shelter companies that leakage occurs in underground shelters when they have not been welded properly. One in particular offered to make a video repairing my shelter. But I'm hoping Ground Zero will stand by their craftsmanship and make it right. We shall soon see. I'll update as I learn more. read more

In response to the response ground zero gave to my review.....GROUND ZERO themselves were contracted to evaluate and or replace my shelter after it flooded during a house fire. Ground zero has posted a response that it should have been replaced now my question is if that was the case why did they take the replacement cost for my shelter from insurance company but instead painted over all the rust and warranty sticker and I am the original owner yet this company won't honor their own warranty. They painted it to get past inspection and get their money but I am left with this rusted death trap. The least this company can do is repair my shelter since it's less than 5yrs old and due to THEIR neglect my shelter is RUINED read more

I was searching all over Oklahoma for a storm cellar business that had a good value and wasn't a hassle. Ground Zero Blew my expectations out of the water. They made it super easy to schedule and make a deposit online. As I awaited for my date of installation they made sure all my permits were correct and had a good system for making sure all my ducks were in a row for the install. When the installers came they were a little early which was great!(I was so excited to get the shelter installed) Brian and Keith were super cool guys! They answered all my questions and proceeded with a nice clean install. They even unloaded the dirt in my back yard, per my request, so I can use it for yard work. They also did great work. They even power washed all the dirt off my driveway. Big thanks to Brian and Keith for making the process smother and doing great work. Was doing research on Storms Shelters. This is our second purchase on a shelter for a new home. Looking at the safest option for my family and I did my research . Back on 2008 I had one installed by ground zero. I went back to them this time because we had a great expereince. This time not so well as you can see in the pictures of how they left my drive and the street which tracked concrete into neighbors drive After several calls and text messages for a week to get this cleaned the owner came back and said this is normal and they are not responsible. I guess when a small company grows they look out for the bottom line and profit NO CUSTOMER SERVICE anymore!!!! I had a Ground Zero in-ground shelter installed 9 years ago. This year we noticed the shelter started leaking due to all the rain. I requested the company honor the "lifetime warranty". After making an on-site visit to review the damage, they advised me 3 holes in the bottom of the shelter were too many and refused to make the necessary repairs. The companies website and my original agreement state the shelter has a "lifetime warranty" on leaks... their in-ground steel shelters are better then the competition and Ground Zero will stand behind the product. However, in my experience they are only empty promises to make the sale.. Purchase at your own risk and don't expect them to honor the warranty. read more

I have purchased 2 in ground shelters from Ground Zero and was coming back for a 3rd shelter (above ground). I have referred countless people over the 9 years, including builders I work with as I'm in commercial lending, since I first purchased a shelter from them. Their customer service was amazing the first two times. This time, so disappointing. I signed up for a shelter at the Tulsa Home and Garden Show in March. My first appointment for install was in April. They called me the week before and cancelled and said they would be in touch as soon as possible. I never heard from them so I called. The lady apologized and put me on the schedule for May 5th. I received an email to confirm installation, which I did, on April 30th. I called several times yesterday and could never get in touch with anyone. I called this morning, 5/3/22, to confirm my appointment and they said oh yah we can't make it. I said I have been cancelled on twice and if you can't figure out a way to make this happen, I will find someone who wants my business. The lady on the phone said "OK"... I'm not sure if this company has just gotten to big for customer service or what, but not I am going to be without a shelter for another 3-4 weeks while I figure out who I will be purchasing from. read more

I can't speak for other installers, but this one is terrible. Installed a shelter for me and gave me a warranty. The door jammed and will no longer open. Their response is basically a laugh and to inform me that their warranty never was worth the paper it was written on. No attempt to help with a product they sold at all. So, you now know that they don't for one second believe in the products they sell. They install, get out with your money as fast as possible, and once they are out of sight, you're on your own. read more
