Our house had a partial power outage - kitchen still had juice but all bedrooms and bathrooms out. Very annoying! I checked all the GFIs on the outlets and tried resetting the breakers. No Luck. After calling PG&E and getting a automatic service appointment I tried leaving a few messages to some local electricians. Ric called me back in the morning. He was friendly and best of all asked me questions to try to understand the problem. He said it was better to wait for PG&E to have a first look since if it's an issue that's outside the house, an electrician is unlikely going to help. His advice was spot on and saved me $150 that I would have spent on another electrician who offered to troubleshoot the issue for me. A 5-min phone conversation from Ric helped me attack the right problem. A big Thank You to Ric! He'll be first in my list if I ever need an electrician. It turned out that Ric was right. PG&E came a few hours later and got my power back up. It was a temporary fix - a long ugly wire from their power box into my smart meter cabinet outside the house. The PG&E guy said their was some outside wire that got damaged - which meant insufficient power going into the house (hence a partial power outage). I'm hoping they return later to get a more permanent fix but for now I'm happy to have power back. read more

I called Grover Electronics because my treadmill and tv in the garage tripped the outlet and wouldn't reset. It also took with it the outlet that powers my garage door. I tried flipping the breakers labeled "garage" in the garage circuit panel but no luck. He recommended that I flip every breaker because they are not always labeled correctly. He was right!! It actually wasn't one of the circuits in the garage panel but the panel outside which controlled the irrigation system, air conditioning, etc. It was the one breaker that was unlabeled. It was nice that he was willing to help and pass along some good advice over the phone even though I wasn't a paying customer. I can only give them a four as I actually did not use them but when I called to ask about their services and told them what was going on at my mother's house he said he knew exactly what it was and that I needed to contact PG&E because it was a power surge. PG&E came out and replaced something on the telephone pole out front and checked all the fuses in Breakers but didn't get any lights really on. He was able to get power to my mother's microwave and the ceiling light in the living room but not the heater or the lights. He suggested I call an electrician so Grover might be hearing from me very soon. read more

I hired Ric at Grover electric to come out multiple times after an initial upgrade to our homes sub-panel - which he did a fantastic job on to begin. We were in the middle of a backyard renovation and needed electrical work done at various stages for outdoor lights, outlets and power for an outdoor kitchen. A circuit in my house tripped a breaker and the breaker wouldn't reset. I tried doing some diagnosis myself but had no luck. I checked yelp to find an electrician and started making calls. Rick got back to me quickly. He said he could be over between noon and 2. He showed up right at 1:15. He started opening receptacle and switch plates to track down where the short was occurring. He found the plug that had gone bad, replaced it and we decided to have him replace the other 3 old plugs in the room and replace the old-style pigtail adapters for wire nuts. We set up an appointment with Rick to quote some electrical work. He came to appt. on time and quoted changing out our pot lights to leds, replacing a broken bedroom fan (lights were stuck on all the time), and changing out a broken outdoor patio light fixture. We hired him and he zipped to the store to buy parts and came back and got everything done except changing one of the lights that he couldn't reach because he didn't have a tall enough latter. After the work was done the bedroom fan light would intermittently come on briefly at random times. Called him to follow up on that which involved a series of calls and text. He came out and replaced the fan remote with a universal. Unfortunately, the fan light still has the same problem. Tried calling and texting Rick, no response. He's difficult to get a hold of in general, and he has you text him the appointment details repeatedly. I get the feeling that if I kept calling him, he'd probably follow up but I don't have the energy for it at this point. Going to try and find another electrician who's less busy. read more

Have lived in our house for 10+ years with no electrical issues. Messaged Grover and a number of other well-reviewed electrical contractors through Yelp when the power to the house lights and other equipment started to dim/drop when running higher power appliances. Most said they would come and take a look for a standard call out fee, some asked me to call so they could quote on the phone. Ric from Grover Electric advised me to check with PGE first - and it was indeed a PGE issue. I had several electrical issues with the home I purchased in Lafayette. After searching around and looking at Yelp reviews (thank you), I ended up calling Grover Electric. Ric called me back promptly and set a time and date for him to come over. He was right on time. He reviewed the problem with the old kitchen pendant lights and a bedroom light that I thought had a short. The pendant lights were old and could not be repaired, while the closet light had the wrong kind of bulb in it. So, I set a return date for new pendant lights over my kitchen island, and put the correct bulb into the closet socket.
