I wouldn't recommend Misti. She missed appointments without calling and didn't reschedule. It was like pulling teeth to get her to file paperwork or order labs. Honestly she seems burned out and I didn't feel like she had me or my baby's best interest at heart. It was just like I was a box to be checked. She didn't keep her word which had me questioning her character. Anyway I won't be using her again. read more

The staff at GF is exceptional. During prenatal visits, they cared about me and not just the pregnancy. During labor they made suggestions for me but never forced anything. All our wishes were honored and I'm glad Misti was present for this, my last, pregnancy. read more

We had our second child, Alex at Growing Families, after having an awful experience at Baptist. After not being in love with anyone of the birthing centers in Jax, a friend recommended Growing Families/Misti. We drove an hour each way, and it was worth it. Not only were they always there to answer all of our questions and ease my husband's stress but they were always friendly and laid back with us. Their personality matched ours and we felt comfortable and felt confident in Misti. When I went into labor, Misti went to dinner with us and then went walking with me at Hobby Lobby (to keep the contractions going). Misti even crocheted my baby a hat from the yarn she bought while we were shopping/counting contractions. What doctor have you known to provide that kind of one on one care and attention to their clients? Their staff is completely helpful and friendly. I HIGHLY recommend them. read more

My pregnant wife and I decided to move to FL from NYC, she was ~35 weeks pregnant when we moved. We visited the hospital in St Augustine and, while I liked them, I was concerned about their high rate of C-Sections and medical interventions. A little research led me to Growing Families and, despite my wife's late pregnancy, she was able to provide all her records and schedule an appointment quickly. We met with Serena Burr and were incredibly impressed. Serena is young, but don't let that fool you, she is extremely knowledgeable. I'm very OCD about health and fitness and Serena never recommended anything that I disagreed with. During the birth, Serena made a special trip in a Sunday to examine my wife, she told us to walk around a little and give it some time for the contractions to become more frequent. We came back around 3pm and my wife gave birth around 645pm. My wife had a natural birth, no pain killers and we went home around 11pm! My baby boy is amazing. I feel better knowing that we did everything possible to protect his health by having Serena deliver him. I can't imagine a midwife who's better than Serena. She's responsive, calm, knowledgeable and experienced. My wife said that Serena was amazing and that her birth would have been much harder if Serena did not help. We love Growing Families and hope to have all our children there! read more

I had the most amazing experience with Growing Families. After having a not so optimal birth with the hospital, I was determined to have that amazing, happy, and sensual birth that you always see and read about! The prenatal visits felt like going to your friends house to catch up(a very well educated friend that is)...it wasn't just about the physical health, they asked questions about my mental wellness as well . Made sure I was happy and took care of any concerns or anxietys I may have had. I was able to call or text the midwives at any time and felt comfortable with doing so. With the hospital birth if I had a question, I was scared and didn't know which of the 100 numbers to call, nor whom I should speak with. Leading up the my homebirth I was checked in on often. Once I was in active labor, the midwives(misti, serena, and sunny)came over and set up everything quickly and professionally. We than waited while listening to my choice music, had the candles lit, and I was bouncing through my contractions on the medicine ball casually, soon after, I hopped in the pool when they hinted it was time. (I was given advice but never forced into any position through labor or the birth.) With their sweet voices, I pushed out baby girl and finally had those amazing happy tears, sigh of relief, and high on that happy hormone birth I had always hoped for! After getting out of the pool, I then sat while baby was thoroughly examined and weighed. The midwives cleaned up the pool and everything involved, then were gone shortly after. (Of course on call if I needed anything). Post natal care was just as awesome. Misti and/or Serena will be at your house in 10 minutes if you have any concerns what so ever! They truly are amazing women and have blessed this community beyond anything I could ever deceive! read more

Wouldn't go to anyone else for the delivery of my babes and support of my pregnancies. My first "birthing center" appointment was actually at a birthing center in Jacksonville and had SUCH an absolute terrible experience with them. The front desk lady was rude and looked defeated and the waiting room was so crowded and hot with kids screaming and crying and nowhere to sit and after over an hour of waiting for our scheduled appointment we waited yet another 45 minutes in the doctor room. My excitment for my first pregnancy ever turned to irritation and we were talking about walking out. The midwife was tired and seemed like she didn't care about me and never asked me any questions. HATED IT! I went to Misti with Growing families for my second appointment and it was a COMPLETE 180! We were the ONLY ones there for our appointment and got full attention from the midwife. She was honest and genuine and was interested in me and my pregnancy and not just reading from a script of questions. We weren't rushed, in fact we went off into a completely different conversation like we knew each other for a long time. Total and complete comfort for me and my husband. We delivered at the birthing center and she was by my side in the room for the whole 7 hours. Very attentive and calm. It was like having a doula and midwife in one. Everything went like I wanted it to go. The umbilical cord was wrapped around my sons neck and she calmly unwrapped it before I pushed a final time. She's highly experienced and knowledgable. I'll be having a home birth for this pregnancy with Misti. I recommend her, her business and staff to everyone. read more
