We stop by Johnday during our road trip. I ordered Flat Iron Steak with garlic mashed potato and it taste so Gooodddd. The services is also really nice. I would recommend this restaurant

We didn't eat here, but Hubby and I had lots of fun in the bar. The locals were all so nice and very chatty. We really felt like they welcomed us with open arms. The drinks were strong and they had a pretty good glass of red for me. They have pool tables and a TV for entertainment, but if those same locals are there, you won't need anything but good conversation.

id say 2.5stars to be exact. First the decor is miner camp which fits the town. The menu is a little awkward and the food was just ok. We ordered Mozzarella cheese sticks which were perfectly cooked and really good but NO dipping mariana!?! They only have ranch, that sucked! lol The bar seems to be the hotspot which looked like a great place to trow some back but had to keep driving. No many places in this town, better food choices would be a big hit here.

So good the prime and salads and bakers were gone before I could take a photo. You must come here and sit in the bar and see Shannon.

This place is great. We sat in the bar. Our waitress was Shannon. If you want great service and perfect food come here. We had the large cut prime rib. So good. We shared it because we are traveling through and did not want to have left overs. Left enough room for desert to take back to the room. Wow. I don't know who has done reviews before but I think it's personal because the reviews we seen did not reflect why service and quality of good we received for it being our first time we were treated like locals and will come here EVERY TIME we home through John day And see Shannon. I should have takin pics before because we didn't have anything left on our plates.

The bourbon salmon was overcooked and dry. The prime rib was also overcooked. Some of the wait staff were good. We will not go back.

Great service. Food was quick and tasty. The salmon was yummy and the hamburger was monstrous. Go. It is well worth it.

And you get to watch the short order line cranking out all the classics you've come to expect for Americana breakfast. Coffee is hot and your cup won't get down below half way, so don't worry about refills. Very family oriented place with a good mix of locals and travelers. Plenty of parking on street in front, lot to side, and even the motel of same name right behind it. I did one of their menu omelets and added some bacon. "No problem honey, you want the bacon in the omelet or on the side?". Just to throw a curve, ordered a cup of oatmeal. All came out piping hot on the same big platter plate. Oatmeal was perfect, just a bit chewy . Omelet was perfectly done and the rye toast was excellent!!! Very satisfying breakfast and classic, great American diner service. You can't go wrong

It sounded like something a tourist should do when you're staying in a little town like Baker. The diner is part of the motel next door which is also called the Oregon Trail. Both venues are kinda dated. I'm sure in it's prime it was fabulous! But eating at this venue was pretty cool. It was like stepping into an old school time capsule. We sat ourselves at a booth on the very left of the diner. It was probably one of the only booths where the seating wasn't all messed up. We were instantly greeted and given menus. I did creep on their online menu this morning but it was good to see what I might miss. I got the country breakfast. It had two eggs, 5 slices of bacon and I opted for fresh fruit instead of the hashbrowns. The eggs were cooked perfectly, nice and yolky in the middle. The fruit was super fresh! It was still on the unripe side but still sweet. The bacon was ok. It was slightly overcooked in the middle and chewy on the ends. It was quite the experience eating here. The servers are really nice and really good at making sure your coffee cup is always full! By the time we left, there was a good crowd of people coming in. It was cool to experience Baker's local diner. It was neat dining here with all the locals.

This bread is fresh, warm, fluffy like a cloud on the inside and has the sexiest soft crunch on the outside. It's the kind of bread you could eat without butter it's so good (but if you do use butter you certainly won't regret it). A thousand blessings to our server who returned my request for more bread near the end of my meal with a wink and came back 5 minutes later with not ONE but TWO CARBOHYDRATE CLOUDS FROM HEAVEN. As for the food on the menu, the "Mushroom Marsala with Grilled Polenta" is one of their most popular dishes for a reason. It's creamy cheese base and hearty helping of thickly cut tender mushrooms makes for a dish that seems to hug your heart and soul. The Polenta is the best cooked I've ever had: it's seasoned well and cooked so that it's the perfect density (like a little cake). Other places crisp their Polenta too hard and it gets stuck in your teeth, or they make it way too salty or not seasoned enough. Geiser Grand gets it right! The "Artichoke Dip" wasn't thick enough and the crostini its served with was quickly forgotten for the free bread. If you do order this appetizer, I do have to admit that I LOVED sopping up all the left over sauce with the free bread. I didn't try the other entrees, but from the looks of the dishes and the reactions of the others at my table, the food overall is fairly standard and nothing special. Certainly not worth the price.

The waitresses were great, they were bored and we got bored, so nice to visit with. The prailine cheesecake was good, but the bread pudding was old and cold. Might go back, but probably not for dinner during the week. Edit to add: I was pleased to hear from the manager the next day, desiring to make it right.
