I do not recommend eating here, the server's barely speak English and will mess your order up. The menu clearly stats Dinners Are served with your choice of soup potato & vegetable. I ordered a Lemon pepper Chicken breast with rice(as it appears on the menu under dinners) and she asked what kind of soup vegi, potato I wanted. When my order came out all it was, was a burnt chicken breast with canned veggies...I asked where the rice and potato were she went to the cook/manager, then came back to me & said I can only have one or other. When I pointed it out that the menu didn't say that the waitress gave me a look of confusion and said there was nothing she could do. It's false advertisement bottom and then to top it off I look off into the distance & there's a fly trap full of flies hanging in the dinning room & not one cook in the kitchen had a mask but everyone that comes in must wear one!! read more

After reading reviews and wanting to go somewhere different, my husband and I trekked to Grubsteakers. I must say we were totally disappointed I ordered a prime rib - medium well. It was one of the worst I have ever had, but maybe I am comparing it to Texas Roadhouse. It had little flavor , and was very tough to chew. My husband got the ribeye and shrimp. We honestly don't remember the shrimp.... maybe he never got them. We were so focused on the fact the ribeye was thin and tough that if there was shrimp there, we don't even remember them. Oh, before the main course, I ordered a salad. Nothing special, and was quite watery. I asked what the vegetable was, and the waitress replied " whatever we have back in the kitchen. They ended up serving me corn! Great... I have had sweet corn all summer long and really wasn't in the mood for more corn, but this corn was nothing special..... apparently straight out of the can. But what upset me was that the party the next table over got green beans ( my favorite. ) I asked a second waitress why that was, and she replied that we probably got what was left from the lunch crowd ( we were there early supper hours).... The baked potato I received was kinda dry as well... got a much better on at Wendy's a few days later. My husband DID like the spicy fries, and the fried green tomatoes were the highlight of the whole meal, which, in this case, didn't take much. I feel we pretty much wasted a good $60.00 ( we had also ordered wine) on a rare occasion that we go out for hopefully a nice meal. I usually am not one to complain. Maybe other meal selections are better, but I doubt we ever try Grubsteakers again, and if we do, we won't go for the ribeye or prime rib! (The waitress was "so so", as well.) read more

Because of the good reviews, I couldn't wait to try this place. It's not like Rochelle IL has much to offer in good food. The Greek salad was fresh and crisp. There were warm tomatoes in it which was weird, but still not a deal breaker. The breaded mushrooms were good. You can tell they're not frozen and fried like most places. But....the flies! Everywhere! I couldn't keep them off of me and my food! Im hoping I just caught them on a bad day right after an outbreak or something, but I'm scared to try it again. They seem to be really bad by the waitress station and not so bad if you can get a table away from the door. I don't know..... I just don't know... read more

Nice atmosphere not Noisy which is A rarity. Great prices, friendly staff. Good food quality. I must have there open faced hot turkey sandwich every time I'm stop by. The wife it's the fried chicken. There are other things we like on there fairly large menu selections. But we tend to gravitate toward old favorite's. Not a fan of the French fries? But enjoy the soup selections and the salads. This is one of out favorite places. And we drive an hour to get here. And if your s first time visitor, the history of the place is worth a stop just on its own. The service was TERRIBLE!!! I'm on a weight loss journey with my mother and on vacation. To be mindful of our portion sizes, we have been sharing plates. The waitress judged and ASSumed that "yea she looks like the type, bet she only leaves $2." Actually, on a $23 bill I was leaving an $8 tip. Certainly not because you were a good waitress, however, I believe in taking care of those in the service industry. Consequently, I went back for my money. I'll pass it onto someone who deserves to be paid for good service. I still left you a $2.50 tip, add that to your $2 shared plate fee for dropping off a plate. Still totals about 15% more than you deserve for being so rude (the entire time btw but we dismissed her attitude initially). We travel and eat out a lot. Piece of advice, the shared plate fee is typically applied because the kitchen divides the food to serve! Came back to my Aunts house who is a local..Really disappointed to hear that the level of service lately is driving long term customers away. She said they stopped going due to rude waitresses and getting sick after eating there. The community rallied together to build this place back up after the tornado and your terrible service is the thank you they are receiving. I wouldn't recommend this place to a starving individual if it was the only place open with food!! read more

A decent little restaurant in the countryside. Some friends and I stopped here on the way from a craft show. The outside looks like a trailer and might seem uninviting, but the inside is nice, warm, and quaint. I ordered a turkey croissant melt and soup. The soup came out relatively quickly, but the sandwich took a while. The soup, chicken dumpling, was nice and warm (not too hot), with nice big dumplings. The sandwich was pretty good, though again, took a while to get here. Service could have been a bit better, but it was pretty good regardless. read more

Food is very good. Soups are homemade and delicious. Portions are large. Wait staff spend more time talking down the owner and their personal matters than attending their customers. Stopped here with friends after a day of kayaking down the Rock River. They had fried green tomatoes as a special, and those were sooo wonderful. I had a Reuben sandwich, that came with chicken and dumpling soup and French fries. The soup was just as good as what my mom used to make. Very nice service. This is a roadside treasure. The soups were hearty and homemade. The Cole slaw was lightly dressed just how we love it. The rare ribeye was cooked perfectly. I have been stopping here for the past 14 years while we were moving from Elgin to Carroll County and have continued to dine here as I travel back and forth to visit my children. I have NEVER had such bad service as I had last week - Thursday July 18. When I walked in around 1:30, I was directed to sit anywhere. As I waited for the waitress to take my order, she cleaned off a table and returned to her lunch. I waited for 10 minutes and finally left. The same waitress was surprised when I said I was going elsewhere so I could order my lunch. There were at least 3 waitresses on duty. I will try once more and then I'm done. read more

Had the worst meal ever last night. I ordered a breaded pork chop and got some kind of batter dipped deep fried mystery meat. It sure wasn't a pork chop! The owner argued with me about it like I didn't know what a breaded pork chop was supposed to be. There was even a picture of a real breaded pork chop on the menu but I was wrong and she was right and not nice at all. In fact she was kind of stupid. Will never go there again. read more
