We loved this placed! It was very off season so we were waiting all week until Thursday when they were open to try it. Our large group of 3 families enjoyed breakfast here and the lovely staff were very accommodating to our chaos. 3 grandparents, 4 parents and 4 toddlers to order, eat and we all enjoyed ourselves. We all loved the treats, the food, and best coffee we could find in the starved rock area! I got for the 4 I was in charge of: 2 hot vanilla latte, a kids French toast with bacon, a biscuit and gravy, cream horn, cinnamon roll, and more treats I can't recall now. Despite growing up in the mid-west, I was this many years old when I found out about Starved Rock State Park in Illinois. Seeking pre hike fuel, we found Nonie's Bakery and Café just a few miles from the park entrance. These breakfast artisans are deadly & deliciously earnest about pastries. I'd guess the diner was originally a small house, renovated to retain an antiquely homey feel. The house made cranberry walnut bread translates to nutty, sharply sweet French toast (or paid perdu as Google translate has it). Scrambled eggs are fluffy, not rubbery as often happens. These geniuses also offer Country Tots: deep fried tater tots, eggs, cheese, gravy, bacon- yes, bacon too! Biscuits and gravy are perfectly balanced between filling and delicious with out the wet cement texture. Breakfast is ordered at the counter, at the end of which is the baked goods case. Chocolate cake for breakfast? Of course! The éclair was sublime, each bite initially crusty, then the creamy pastry center, enhanced by the light, sweet filling. The cheese cake pastry whose name I don't recall was substantial, but not overwhelmingly sugary nor heavy. When breakfast is done and your blood sugar has leveled out, take a quick run into town. Tucked away in north central Illinois, even Saugatuck, MI (the world's cutest town) would have to call Utica adorable, and even a snooty European chef in tall puffy white hat would have to call Nonie's Délicieux! read more

Nonie's is magical. My husband and I come here once, maybe twice a year before going hiking and it's always a great experience. The staff is so friendly and personable. The food is great, but we really come for the baked goods. They are INCREDIBLE. No matter what you get it is absolutely delicious we have never had something we didn't like. They have the PERFECT danish, you can't get a better danish than Nonie's. The monkey bread is CRAZY. The donuts are the perfect texture. The cinnamon rolls have the perfect dough to filling ratio. Everything is always fresh. Go to Nonie's, you will not be disappointed! We would pay up the wall for their food however their prices really can't be beat for the quality of their food. read more

Difficult to find something tasty and reasonably priced when staying in Starved Rock, but this place was the best ever! Thank you, yelp, for the suggestion! The exterior looks like it is someone's home, and this definitely added to the charm. The interior is so cute and surprisingly expansive. It even had a fireplace! There was plenty of space to sit Our 6 member family dined at this gem after researching breakfast locations. Upon our arrival we were greeted and given the run down of what their specials were. I had already researched that you go directly to the counter to order and staff will bring the food to you. The menu was huge, and this was appreciated considering half of us are vegetarians. I placed our orders and we patiently waited at one of their tables. Our food arrived approximately ten minutes later fresh and hot. Their portion sizes were pretty large for the price paid. The pancake kids meal was so big! The kids french toast sticks were nothing to write home about, but they satisfied the children's bellies. The supplements of bacon worked very well for my girls, and were very much appreciated. The true star was the Cinnamon Roll. I have never seen a Cinnamon Roll as big as this one. I was able to split it evenly amongst my 4 children and it was only $2! Value of a lifetime! The little bit I did manage to steal had icing that melted in our mouths and it tasted so fresh! Our Veggie Crossaint was equally as delicious. Garden fresh cucumbers, tomatoes, avocado, spinach, and fried egg atop a Crossaint was the breakfast I never knew to have. The tator tots accompanied it and were freshly fried and abundant. Nonie's was such a good experience that we returned the next day. Unfortunately, they were not open due to staffing issues, but I would not hesitate to drive all the way from Lemont just to get a taste. Highly recommend! read more

Heard about this place on Yelp and decided to get it a go after a morning of hiking around Starved Rock. Masks are required inside and food is served on paper plates with plastic silverware. There is limited seating inside and outside. The outdoor seating overlooks the main drag. The food was very good and cheap. I had the breakfast panini which came with a hash brown patty. The patty was a bit oily but the sandwich was perfect. Very filling and not even $7. read more

What an awesome little coffee shop. We were staying at Grand bear and was less than impressed by their breakfast. Stumbled upon this place when doing downtown Utica stuff and not disappointed. The coffee has fantastic flavor and I was told is a blend specially formulated for them by another local. Love to hear stuff like that. Bakery items are fresh and yummy. I had the spicy avocado croissant which was very tasty and filling. Lady's working the counter were kind and relaxed. I could hang out here all day! No idea why some of these other reviewers knocked this place for not being a sit down. Because it is an order up front, find a seat and they bring you food. I'm pretty sure they also use coffee ice cubes so it doesn't water down as it melts. There are so many specialty flavors I want to try. We sat outside where there are picnic tables and tables w/umbrellas. I ended up getting a chicken salad which was very tasty and a coffee. I saw some of the cakes and pastries others were getting and those looked fabulous as well (I didn't indulge b/c I was about to walk in the heat and well, if I ate the pastry the walk wouldn't have happened HA). They also sell these amazing homemade candles, I did buy one of those, and the smell is incredible. Lastly, the servers were so kind. On my way out, they offered to refill my large water bottle w/o me requesting. Very thoughtful and loving place. Will definitely be back when I visit Starved Rock! read more

They have so many good options quiche, french toast, biscuits & gravy, scramblers, pastries, and more! The portions are big for how cheap the food is. I had the biscuits and gravy which were pretty good. I also had the bacon and cheddar quiche which came with a hash brown patty and choice of bread. I LOVE their bread. I had the cheddar bread and I could eat a whole loaf of it! They let you choose which flavor bread you want when you order. We came on a Sunday at 10:30 in the summer and it wasn't busy, so there was not much of a wait which was awesome! The staff was friendly. I didn't order a pastry but they looked so good! They had cinnamon rolls, boston creme pie, bread pudding, etc. So many great options. Stopped in for a late lunch after a visit to starved rock. We were lucky that they're open after 1p and served breakfast, sandwiches and salads. They have a very yummy looking bakery case and we took home an assortment of danish, key lime bars and chocolate cake. Service was super fast, the 4 of us all ordered breakfast combos and they were great! Housed in an old home right on the main drag, they had plenty of seating, was very clean and had cute decor. They also have a small selection of candles, wax melts and organic personal care items as well as some other jewelry and decor. Wax melts were only $5 for a pack and small jar candle was $12. They were busy with many walk ins and takeout orders. Would definitely recommend especially to give $ to a local business. Btw they serve on disposable paper plates and plastic cutlery, but the food is very reasonable ex: $7 for a 2 egg/2 pancake/2 bacon plate! read more

My boyfriend and I stopped here on our way to Starved Rock state park for lunch. It is located within an old house and has a cute local feel. We ordered the ham and cheese panini and chicken salad sandwich. Both were excellent. The desserts in the display case looked amazing and I regret not getting one. They had key lime bars, donuts, cookies, etc. They also had a large assortment of coffee options including a pumpkin chai latte special that looked perfect for fall. I would highly recommend this for a quick bit to eat or a sweet/ coffee! It also had plenty of space to sit even with Covid. The restaurant almost looks as if it used to be someone's house, and it still has that "homey" type feel to it. You order your meal and pay at the front counter before you sit down. The prices for this place are very reasonable. I ordered the veggie scrambler and picked the cheddar toast as my included bread with this meal. My food was only $7 and some change. There are several different types of sweets available (donuts, cookies, walnut sticky buns, etc). I really wanted to try something sweet, but I knew many of the options I wanted wouldn't keep very well in a hot car while I was out and about in the area.
