I've ordered from Grumpy's twice now, and here's the rundown. The first time I tried the Philly Cheesesteak, and honestly, it was just okay--nothing special, nothing terrible, just kind of mid. But I believe in second chances, so I gave them another shot. Round two, I went with the Gourmet Burger... and that's when Grumpy's redeemed itself. That fried egg on top takes it from a regular burger to something you remember--juicy, flavorful, and stacked just right. The portion size was solid, and it felt like real value for the price. The lamb gyro was absolutely amazing. Got the German potatoes with it which were very good. Went back a second time and got the buffalo chicken sandwich. I expected breaded chicken and it was grilled nuggets in sauce on a sandwich. I didn't like it... ate half and threw the rest away. Was charged twice for fries (they're included in the meals price but that was due to a new employee who didn't know that and neither did I, so won't fault them for that. Just expensive enough already to be overcharged and not have it offered to be corrected when it was discovered by the cook who gave me two orders of fries. 3 of us stopped in for lunch. We all had something different. I had the Gyro which was excellent, there was a club sandwich and also a cheeseburger. All of which impressed the folks I had lunch with. The operation was very clean and inviting. Food was delivered to our table with all items arriving simultaneously, which was a nice change from other places I have eaten. Stopped by on a Monday to grab some dinner, Grumpys did not disappoint!! Have been looking for a good Gyro in this area FOREVER, but never knew this place existed!! Drive past it all the time!! Dining area is quaint, & cozy, but quiet. I had a Gyro & the wife had the shrimp poboy. Bread on both was perfect, tzaki sauce was really good and shrimp was fresh. Only 2 guys working but got everything out at a decent time. Cannot recommend enough!! read more

Had the lunch special-Chicken Spaghetti- today and it was wonderful! Highly recommend.

We ordered the Gyros platter. Food was dry with just a dollop of sauce. So I asked for more sauce. They charge $1.75 for one ounce of tatziki. Potatoes were dry too. Passed by Victoria TX and had to give it a try since its a 5 star place. When we got there we got greeted by one employee she told us "Welcome" but didn't smile, I ordered the gyro with french fries and my husband ordered the cheese hamburger, the place is neat, I only saw 3 employees there. Let me tell you that the food was delicious it has a lot of flavor in it, the only sad side I see is that IDK if its the concept of (Grumpy) but the employees don't smile, They just answer your questions and make faces. First we went to the address on Yelp... they have a "we moved" sign in the window... but only a few blocks away to 1201 Sam Houston. We found it. Ordered a cheese burger and a Philly cheese steak! BOTH were delicious! The cheese burger was large! Just enough juicy but not too messy! Good meat! The Philly was excellent! All grilled perfectly! Bun was crisp outside soft inside! First time here and it's a winner. I had the Beef-Lamb gyro, and it was great. That's note worthy because I don't like lamb. The meat was very flavorful and seasoned well. The Tzatziki sauce was on point and blended well with the feta and the meat. The pita was fluffy, soft and tender. I upgraded and got the lemon potatoes and I'm so glad I did. These are absolutely awesome and I will most certainly be back to get more of them and to try other wonderful things. The only downside to this visit is that the have a paper on the counter that explains why the menus don't have the correct price. Maybe since you order at the counter just put up a menu board. Anyway I'll be back sooner rather than later. read more

Sis came into town and we wanted something quick since it was a bit late and were hungry.. I told her I had seen this place pop up and was interested in trying it out. Upon arriving we noticed there was one other couple and were glad it wasn't crowded what with the Rona floating around. You order at the counter and they bring it to you...I love gyros so I ordered that and my sis got through mushroom swiss burger....we caught up on life abx enjoyed the fall decor they had. A good 15 mins later our food came out and ohh my it was so tasty! The fries were thick crinkly and seasoned perfectly. My gyro was very flavorful and a good size to where I was able to save half for another meal. My sis enjoyed her burger as well. The past times ive visited this establishment i have had no issues with wait staff and/or food at all, actually it was really quite enjoyable until this visit when i learned why it is named grumpy's. When i placed my order for a chicken gyro platter with potatoes i was rudely made aware that they didnt have the potatoes so I asked for a substitute of fried green beans and again was given a very short terse NO, even after i asked if i could get them if i paid for the substitution. Then i repeated my order to the person behind the counter for a chicken gyro platter with an extra order of fries since they are very frugal with the fries and ketchup. My employee made his order and then i paid for the chicken gyro plate and philly steak and cheese plate and we go and sit down. After we sat down an employee came out with our drinks and mentioned they are out coke. No big deal or at least i thought, my employee switched his drink and shortly after followed with the incorrect order. Upon the waiter placing the order on the table I kindly let him know that it was supposed to be a chicken gyro not lamb. He then went back to the manager and came back telling me that they would fix it for an additional $2.95. I then asked why am i being charged extra to fix an order that is not what i ordered in the first place. He then went to get a manger, the girl came up to the table telling me i messed up by not checking my reciept that i was never given, only thing i was given was a printed number 2. I asked her if i made the mistake by inputting the wrong info into their POS and she got an attitude real and told me that i was out of hand after i told her i repated my order 3 times at the beginning and was very clear the chicken part of the order. She then argued more and was like ill get the manager. I could hear the manager and both employees discussing the issue. I decided to get up and go to the counter where i just order the meals. This time the manager actually came to speak with me about the cost of food, not the incorrect order. He then pointed at a blue sign (attached below) and said read it with a very grumpy attitude. It dealt with the business hours for the 4th of july. I read it to him and he seemed puzzled, so then he grabbed the little sign and switched it around to show the white peice of paper behind the hours of operation notice that dealt with the increase of food costs (also attached). He childishly said read it again, as if it was going to provide an explanation of why his employee got my order wrong. He then thumped his menu and said read it in a very condescending tone again (also attached) that theres an up charge for chicken, I asked him to show me where it was on the menu and he became very argumentative about costs. He could not show me on the menu (attached below) where it stated there was an upcharge for the chicken, and again i said i would not pay for it due to his incompetent employee and that I would like my order corrected or my money back. When i asked for my money back he repeatedly told me to look at the blue sign then the white sign and made sure i knew it was on both the door of the establishment and the counter. Then he started to really get argumentative with me about my inability to find any type of notice on the menu about a chicken upcharge. We went back and forth for a minute or 2 then his only recourse was telling me that prices are going up everywhere and i pointed out again that it wasnt on the menu and was not posted anywhere within visual acuity. He threatened me with trespassing so i walked back to my table and grabbed my belongs and as i got up from the table , the incorrect order that was sitting on the end of the table where the incompetent employee had placed it ended up on the floor. He told the police that I vandalized the establishment and wanted to have me cited for trespassing. You cant blame the customer when youre employee gets things wrong. I wish the owner could have seen this horrible display of customer service and why his store is in the red. read more

Decided to try this place out because I saw their post on Facebook for a burger & fries for $6.99. Man I'm glad I went! My boyfriend loved it as well! I got the 1/4 lbs burger, added jalapeños. My boyfriend got their regular 1/2 lbs burger, added ham & avocado. The burgers were great & had tons of flavor. We also got their cheese sticks & Greek lemon potatoes. The cheese sticks were pretty standard. The lemon potatoes were good & bigger than expected! The cashier was also patient, helpful & super nice. Overall 10 out of 10. I ate it too quickly and forgot to take a pic. I had the Philly Cheesesteak and added mushrooms. Super yummy!!! I got it with beef there is also a choice chicken. The meat was flavorful, soft roll and bell pepper and onions and mozzarella cheese I believe. You have a choice of regular or Cajun fries ( I got regular fries). Those were super yummy as well. This place was horrible. Flies everywhere not to mention roaches crawling around. Cheeseburger was dry. The owner and manager are rude. They both at different times cursed me and my husband out. The guy who answered the phone took my order. I said, "I'd like an order to-go please. An 8 oz cheese burger with nothing on it. Only pickles on the side, and a lot of pickles." He asked me if I would like to hear about any of the other vegetables and toppings, and I said, no, just a lot of pickles. He said, "are you sure?" And I said yeah, just a lot of pickes. So when I arrive to pick up the order, obviously the kid didn't listen the first 3 times I said a lot of pickes, because I get a tiny little thing of pickles. So I said at the counter, "I asked on the phone for a lot of pickles." He literally turns to the cook and says "give me a little more pickles." (YES, I said a LOT the fourth time and he said a LITTLE to the cook). He proved he wasn't listening a fifth time when I said, "I said on the phone I would like a lot of pickles and no other toppings, so I already paid for that." He says any more pickles will cost you a little money. At this point I got angry with this person who obviously can't listen to anything anybody says. I slammed the fries I didn't want and didn't ask for into the trashcan and walked out. The food might've been good, but I lost my appetite after that, so the burger experience sucked. This world is going to hell in a handbasket because of people like this who are raised not to listen or communicate clearly. Evolution should've definitely weeded this person out of the gene pool. I thought about going back and getting the 20% tip back that I gave this weasel, but I didn't. His bad temperament will catch up with him and that will be good enough. Uggh! read more
