Oxtail platter and jerk chicken platter with steamed cabbage, rice and peas, and plantains
Kathleen W.

Was feeling Caribbean food so I ordered for delivery. I got the oxtail platter and the jerk chicken platter with steamed cabbage, rice and peas, and plantains. The food came hot and fresh and nicely wrapped. The oxtail had really good flavor, savory from the sauce and nicely spiced. The meat was also juicy but the fat could be trimmed a bit more. The jerk chicken also had good seasoning and wasn't dry but could use a little more sauce. The sides were typical and matched well with the salty meats. Overall I'd definitely order from them again!

MOLD ON THEIR FOOD! I ordered a pineapple slice of cake from them and it was covered with mold on the bottom and throughout the cake! Its very visible! Disgisting! If thats the disregard you give to serving something as simple as cake I can only imagine what else in their kitchen is EXPIRED, MOLDY and shouldnt be consumed! My daughter (3yr old) took the first bite of that moldy cake. DISGUSTING! They need to be reported by a health inspector.

One of the best Jamaican places in NY city. Its a GEM hidden a block down from the LIRR station. Very simple place but the food is sooooo good- MUST TRY! We had their Goat curry and Steak combos- they come with rice/beans/salad and the best plantains i've ever had! The meat is sooo tender and well cooked- The food is so well prepared just as in its name-Home style! Staff is the most attentive and helpful. Loved this place!

Food: The oxtail medium platter is always my go to with mixed veggies and plantain and extra oxtail gravy...I'm telling you bussin. They have some of the best oxtail it won't disappoint. I also love the fish cakes always get about three great anytime for the day we had them for breakfast it was the perfect grab and go meal and my baby loves them Service: The service is always on point, for a Jamaican restaurant they are very friendly and warm and welcoming in comparison to my experiences in the 5 boroughs especially the corporate run golden Krust. They are very warm and welcoming Ambiance: Cool calm vibes we have sat down and ate before and enjoyed the paintings on the walls I suggest you give them a try no matter if you are in the Queens area, passing by some of the best food in the area....I stay away from Chinese food at all cost especially in the area they have horrible customer service on the same block radius

Nice little family style Jamaican restaurant, the service was very fast and the staff was super friendly. I ordered the jerk chicken with rice and peas and plantains, the chicken was very tender and wasn't dry at all. The coconut pie I got for dessert was the star of the show.

Small jerk chicken meal

The food was very good and made fresh. The portion size was big for it to be a small order. The jerk chicken could use a little more sauce. The pieces on the bottom were a little dry. I asked for salad but they gave me steamed vegetables but I still enjoyed the meal. I would definitely come back here again.

I found a fly in my food. I live across the street. So I came right back, I was told that I had to come back after 3pm to speak to the manager. They took my food. I came after in the afternoon and the manager refused to give me refund. He insists that there's no way to tell if the food came from my home. It did not. I'm pissed offf. I will NEVER eat there again! Their customer service is horrible.

Large Oxtail Dinner

G's Homestyle Cooking is a solid 3.5 stars. It's been a minute since I've had Jamaican Oxtails with Rice and Peas. I placed an order for the large dinner entree via Door Dash. My food was delivered to me in under 15 minutes. Holy crapola if I was starving I would've been more than thrilled to have my order so soon. I've never had food delivered to me so promptly especially since moving further away from all of the good West Indian Restaurants. The oxtails were succulent, seasoned perfectly, and fall off the bone tender. Although the portion was plentiful I wish that the oxtails were of the larger variety. I had maybe three to four decent size oxtails amongst several miniature ones. The sweet plantains were some of the best I've ever had. Not only were they extremely ripe, but they were fried to perfection. The rice and peas were nothing to write home about. I didn't care for the pigeon peas used in the recipe. Also there was no coconut flavor to the rice. If the rice was made with creamy coconut milk and kidney beans I'd be a happier camper. I decided to take out the Gungo peas and mix the oxtail gravy into the rice. Nonetheless I was happy with my meal. I'd definitely order from here again.

Got the oxtail plate! Very good for the price. I think it was a bit sweet and could have used some more spices, but good regardless.

I have never been to a buffet like this before, but I will be wishing we had one in Alabama forever…read morenow. The lamb chop was so juicy, the Mac n cheese was amazing, and the oxtail was so tender! You pay by the weight & which meat you pick.

The food &drink arrived but it's only 2 pieces of salmon. I complained & received a $8 refund- $2 per side I didn't receive was the explanation. If you can call me to say the drink sold out, why couldn't you also tell me that the sides I ordered were also sold out. I ended up cooking some rice and veggies to go with the salmon. I don't know how a restaurant that is supposed to be open 24hrs runs out of sides at 7pm. Even after that we decided to give another chance the Saturday & walk-in. Its an unorganized buffet style restaurant. Most of the food was not labeled or mislabeled. The last straw with me was they put shrimp in the Mac n cheese and it wasn't labeled. The cashier from the front passing by had to say Oh there's shrimp in the Mac and I said oh TY! (My hubby is allergic and was definitely heading for it so I told him not to). There were 2 girls sitting on a bench (who looked like the cashier's friends) told her, you don't have to tell them. If they have a food allergy they should ask. It's on them. The cashier from the back said it's not labeled so I felt I should tell them. The friend again said, It's up to them to ask I'll never go back bc they are not going to kill my husband! I Do NOT recommended

There were two young ladies standing behind the bar but no one greeted us. We stood by the door for maybe 5 mins before we were acknowledged and asked if we wanted to sit a table or the bar. It took another 10 mins or so before WE had to ask for a menu. After that, the young lady that served us was good and personable. The ambiance in here is pretty chill. They had a DJ that played a good mix of music. They also have a bunch of games like jenga, giant uno, connect four etc. They have happy hour M-F 4-7pm. $5 shots, $8 rum punch and margaritas (+ $1 per flavor), and $10 L.I.T, $10 wings & fries and $12 shrimp & fries (+ $2 per flavor). Drinks: We did the margaritas which are $8 +$1 for flavors. We had the passion fruit, mango, and raspberry flavors. Passion fruit was my fave, mango was a tad bit sweet but when I asked the server to add a shot to fix it, she did. Food: we had the lemon pepper and buffalo wings and fries. The wings were good but the lemon pepper flavor was light and just sprinkled on. The crab legs were really good! It's cooked in a curry sauce, I just wished they actually served it in the sauce. I had to ask for melted butter. We weren't really hungry but from the few things I had, it seems their food is good. I would go back to try some more menu items.

The owner Ryan was also on the grill in the back and was really friendly. Def coming back if I'm ever in the area.

So disclaimer my review is strictly based on an online order. I haven't visited this establishment in person so I can't speak on service or presentation. But now on to the food... I ordered their infamous jerk chicken sandwich & oxtail Rasta pasta. So for starters the sandwich appearance wise looked sloppy. It gave sloppy joe & my food was cold. Now for the taste it did not wow me. Jerk chicken was flavor less & bland did not taste like authentic jerk chicken should. I did like the Cole slaw but that was it. The sandwich was dry too. Now as for the oxtail the meat was tough & not tender as I'd like it to be. I also did not receive much meat, I was given bones. Which is unfortunate bc a lot of ppl spoke about how great ry ry food is esp their oxtail. But I can make better oxtail than this. The pasta was good but its pasta if you mess that up, you shouldn't be in the kitchen. So furthermore I was very disappointed I was not impressed by meals, I will not be ordering again in the future.

If…read moreyou do go, the best things to order are the Guyanese patties (chicken or beef), a refreshing coconut water, and the currant rolls, which tend to be the highlights. Personally, though, I'm not much of a fan of the rest of the food. Those few items stand out, but overall the menu didn't quite win me over. Now you officially have the Supreme Touch

I ordered a curry beef and I took one bite and the inside of my lip was still on fire 10 minutes…read morelater. When I complain, they say there's no way it can be spicy as everything is supposed to be mild. They don't take into consideration that the cook's spice tolerance might be higher due to them consuming a lot of spicy food so they can't tell when they've put too much spice. I could even see the high amount of pepper seeds in the curry compared to the previous times I've gotten it. The chicken curry is also often too spicy. Sometimes you get lucky and the chef working that day doesn't overload it with spice but it's rare. I see unsanitary behavior more and more often. People touching notepads and pens then using the same gloves to touch the fried chicken pieces and plantains. The notepad is on the same place they wrap the rotis. Then the lady taking cash goes to wrap a roti and uses her bare left hand to do it. Same hand touching money all day. The A rating doesn't mean much since restaurants get wind of when the inspector hits other restaurants and just tries to be on their best behavior then go back to being nasty after. Also, they use a shady tactic in which they make you wait longer so the line grows long and the store appears more crowded, making passerby think the store must be good for it to be crowded with so many people. They don't even try to hide it. When you order for delivery, the workers pack the food immediately so it sits there getting cold for 30 minutes until a driver picks it up. ZERO common sense. Today is the last straw that made me never order Sybil's again. I go in near closing and a worker is cleaning the steamtable bins with soap and water. You know how you place the steel containers of food on hot water. So they were cleaning the hot water basins with soap and water right at the table. The worker then uses a dry dirty cloth to wipe the soap clean, obviously there's going to be some dried soap residue still left since it was never fully rinsed with water. I've seen workers in the afternoon taking the stainless containers of food off the table, the dirty soapy water now on the bottom of the container dripping onto the other food as they lift it out. Wow. And you're ingesting parts of that everytime you eat.
