I must admit, I appreciate getting what I deserve and who doesn't deserve a large portion of oxtail like this? The oxtail was good, the portion generous, and the price fairly reasonable compared to what I've seen elsewhere. The vegetables were nicely steamed and not sludgy. The rice was fresh and had plenty of peas. I placed a pickup order, and the service was fast. I was in and out quickly. Was feeling Caribbean food so I ordered for delivery. I got the oxtail platter and the jerk chicken platter with steamed cabbage, rice and peas, and plantains. The food came hot and fresh and nicely wrapped. The oxtail had really good flavor, savory from the sauce and nicely spiced. The meat was also juicy but the fat could be trimmed a bit more. The jerk chicken also had good seasoning and wasn't dry but could use a little more sauce. The sides were typical and matched well with the salty meats. First time coming into this restaurant and ordered a surprise bag from the Too Good To Go app. Service was absolutely wonderful they were warm and welcoming. It was fast and easy as they made the bag when requested rather than having it set to the side waiting so it was so hot and fresh. I received a plate with meat, rice and peas, veggies and plantains. Fresh and delicious. A large soup - red peas with everything added in it. The soup so good I could cry; the perfect amount to be filling and comforting. Even though it was almost closing time all was fresh and nothing tasted stale. The place itself was clean, organized with everything that was on display clearly labeled in large easy to read text. Bathroom labeled and available for customers. Tables with enough room to comfortably sit and enjoy a meal. One of the best Jamaican places in NY city. Its a GEM hidden a block down from the LIRR station. Very simple place but the food is sooooo good- MUST TRY! We had their Goat curry and Steak combos- they come with rice/beans/salad and the best plantains i've ever had! If thats the disregard you give to serving something as simple as cake I can only imagine what else in their kitchen is EXPIRED, MOLDY and shouldnt be consumed! Got the oxtail plate! Very good for the price. I think it was a bit sweet and could have used some more spices, but good regardless.

I was flying out of JFK and was staying in a hotel in Jamaica. I was feeling like some Jamaican food and found this place. I circled around a few times to get parking and finally did. I found out that they also have parking at the back until 5 pm. I ordered the medium oxtail platter and it was incredible. The meat was falling off the bone. The platter comes with rice, plantains and a generous amount of oxtail and gravy. If you get a chance, try it out. It's worth it and one of the best I've had. Very flavorful. My food was delivered to me in under 15 minutes. Holy crapola if I was starving I would've been more than thrilled to have my order so soon. I've never had food delivered to me so promptly especially since moving further away from all of the good West Indian Restaurants. The oxtails were succulent, seasoned perfectly, and fall off the bone tender. Although the portion was plentiful I wish that the oxtails were of the larger variety. I had maybe three to four decent size oxtails amongst several miniature ones. The sweet plantains were some of the best I've ever had. Not only were they extremely ripe, but they were fried to perfection. The rice and peas were nothing to write home about. I didn't care for the pigeon peas used in the recipe. Also there was no coconut flavor to the rice. If the rice was made with creamy coconut milk and kidney beans I'd be a happier camper. Ordered pick-up 10 mins before close, was able to get medium jerk chicken and medium oxtail, both with rice & peas, sweet plantain, and mixed vegetables. Portion size was fair and decently priced. I enjoyed every bite until i saw a few strands of animal hair still om the meat on both entrees and the poorly paired steamed mix vegetables. Sweet plantains and rice & peas were on point. Jerk Chicken flavor was great, oxtail a tad bit overly sweet but still enjoyable. Arrived in town in search of some oxtail. After searching endlessly, I came across G's Homestyle Cooking. I read the reviews and looked at the photos and made a game time decision. I ordered the small oxtail with white rice and festival. The Ubereats menu was a mess, so I really had no idea what I would get since the menu only showed sides of meat with regular sides (like rice & peas, white rice, etc) that you had to pay for separately. As luck would have it, I received a call from a wonderful woman who explained that I could get a large oxtail with white rice and veggies. Perfect, that's exactly what I wanted. After placing my order, I waited for 20-25 mins. The delivery guy was on a bike, and he must have had a motor on that bike because he got to me super fast. I picked up my platter and proceeded to enjoy my meal. The asthetics of the platter were pleasing to the eye. OMG, the food was pipping hot, and tasted soooo GOOD! The oxtail had the perfect amont of flavor and gravy. The meat was tender and plentiful. The white rice and gravy was a great side along with the mixed veggies. I was very pleased with my meal. 3.5 stars Haven't had Jamaican food in a while so ordered 2 large entrees delivered to my house. Portions are good. I tried the stewed beef and jerk chicken. Comes with peas and rice, sweet plaintains... salad or mixed veggies basically the frozen stuff. I chose salad but it's over hot rice, so not really appetizing. I've had better Jamaican food before but the food at G's was still good. The jerk chicken is saucy but I'm missing that grilled, smoky flavor. Still not bad. The stewed beef was very tender, enough for several portions. The food is too seasoned/salty for my taste so I felt really bloated after having a small portion. Instead of the mixed veggies or salad, I'd rather have cabbage or upgrade to Mac & cheese like other Jamaican restaurants I've been to. G's Homestyle Cooking is a testament that A) Caribbean / West Indian fare is delicious B) Jamaica is a wonderland of local businesses and C) the best kind of spots are locally owned. I have no doubt that every neighborhood could use a place like this where the food is tasty and the pretension is minimal. It is a small operation; which primarily relies on takeout with a few seats in house. The old school vibe is more than evident and the specials for lunch and dinner vary week in and out. I personally like to call ahead of time and figure out what they have before making the trek. Food does run out often. Many people have raved of the oxtail and it's every bit worth the hype. It's right up there with some of the best I've had. I would put a greater emphasis on the stewed beef, which is succulent and chunky, and is probably my favorite thing to eat here. I also can't rave about their jerked chicken and stewed chicken enough, they're worthy of consideration always. I also think their callaloo and codfish are dynamite. They go extremely well with the plantains and rice + peas. Their vegetable / spinach patties slept on often, but I do think their lunch / dinner platters are where it's at. I still haven't tried their breakfast yet, but I'm eager to make that a priority next time I'm there. Customer service is fairly good. The staff is very no-nonsense with the orders, which I can understand given their popularity. Prices are around $7 give or take for a mini platter and as much as $12/13 depending on the item for lunch / dinner. They do take credit cards and they even deliver for folks in the area. read more

For starters the explanation of menu items and what the meals come with is very unclear; Although you're ordering from the medium breakfast meals menu, you will have the option of Large (extra charge), Mini (no charge) or small (extra charge), which, to me, was a bit confusing. Which one is the Medium?? Anyway, the food arrives and the bag is super oily. Why not dispose of the water from the boiled provisions before putting the callaloo & codfish! I picked up take-out here for my go-to Jamaican dishes: goat curry and oxtail. The oxtail was delicious, but the Goat curry was a little saltier than I would have preferred. Their portions are healthy and have lots of rice. There is a small number of steamed vegetables on the side too. Overall a good option for Jamaican food if you're in the area. Out of curiosity, I decided to take the trip to Sutphin Blvd just to try their oxtail and I'm surprised to find myself already wondering of coming back there for another plate of oxtail... or maybe to try their Jerk Chicken. I don't know if it's a blessing or a curse for this place to be so far from my house. I kind of dread the travel I have to make, but at the same time if it's so close I might eat my weight in their Oxtail. Plus, the price is very good for the portion. Even though I ordered the small plate, it's actually already enough for a decent meal. In fact, if you're not a huge eater, you can order the large one ($16) and split with a friend. For $13 you'll get a plate of Oxtail with Rice & peas, Jamaican cabbage & carrot, and plantain. This is perhaps the best oxtail I've ever had (and I've had quite a lot of oxtail in a LOT of different ways), but wow! Their oxtail is so succulent, tender, and rich in flavor. The sauce is sweet with mild hint of smokiness. The rice & peas is totally the perfect accompaniment with its texture. Even the cabbage and the plantains (it's the sweet one by the way) were so good. The service was quick! I got my food ready in perhaps 10 minutes or less. It was worth the trip. read more

Wow as soon as I saw the pictures of the food when it popped up as a restaurant I should check out in my area I said no this food look good but how does it tastes....well I have been going for 3 weeks straight and I am so pleased that it has great flavors without the extra spicy but it does feel like home cooked meal and they are not stingy with the serving....the lady behind the counter is nice but serious about what you oder....get the order in so she can make you the plate....love it just like my mom back home also the decor is so afrocentric showing the strength of our past and future is so inspiring to see....I will be back soon read more

Upon entering the restaurant, I was greeted by a sister at the front who took my order. My order didn't take long at all and while waiting the owner came to the front and asked if I had ever tried his food. I told him I had not, but found him on Yelp and was excited to try his oxtails. I got home and it definitely did not disappoint at all. My fat ass tried to eat the whole thing, but had to stop and thought about lunch at work tomorrow . There's something about Jamaican food that speaks comfort to me. I've already tried oxtails from other places in Jamaica (Queens) and wanted to grab lunch somewhere closer to the train station this time. G's was a cozy, no-frills, mom-and-pop's type of restaurant that reminded me a lot of Southern comfort food restaurants. We got the medium-sized oxtail lunch (it's only available in M or L) which was $18 each before tax. The price is in the same price range as their other competitors but this place gave me more oxtail. The portion size was satisfying and the oxtails were packed with flavor. My only complaint is they forgot to trim off some of the excess fat so you got too much of the fat layer overpowering the meat and the sauce was a little bit on the sweet side. My little (aka my hand model in a lot of my food photos) thought the beef patty was alright. Overall, I would definitely come back for more. read more
