Listen I go to a Jerk hole in the wall for superb jerk and this was NOT even decent. I've visited this jerk spot twice and enjoyed the jerk chicken. Its not the best jerk I've eaten but its a worth a trip to purchase. The first time I ordered I remembered the rice and peas were bland and overcooked. However, the second time they were cooked well. The staff were pretty cool with great customer service to me. The lines can be a bit long and slow depending on the time of day. (lunch hour). The prices are reasonable and they have different size options depending on your pockets. If you're in queens and want just an explosion of deliciousness in your own home? Then this is the place to pick it up from. It's my go-to spot in Jamaica for cheat days. They have the best oxtails and vegetable rice around. The rice is seriously addictive. They also have a slamming hot sauce. You have to ask for the real hot hot sauce tho. Because they used to give me another hot sauce before a regular told me of this one. If you like perfectly spiced, fall off the bone, absolutely delicious oxtails. If you also like them with magic rice that you can eat buckets of till you explode in delicious rice goodness, then this is the place to get it from. They do not have any seating. As meals they each came with rice and beans and some salad. The oxtail was very tasty. The meet was tender, the sauce was good and the portion was quite large. The jerk chicken, on the other hand, was just mediocre. It tasted like it had been sitting in its serving dish for quite some time and did not have the jerk flavoring kick that most jerk chicken usually does. I also bought some fresh fruit salad and Jamaican fruit punch. The fruit salad was fresh. The prices are pretty reasonable for the portion size. Man oh man. St. Best is still one of the best spots I know of for some good authentic Jamaican cooking. This review however is for the seafood soup! Every day they have a different soup. Friday happens to be seafood. Since I am pescetarian I couldn't wait to see what this seafood soup is all about. Phenomenal! It has crab legs, shrimp, fish, a myriad of delicious sea critters floating in this delectable broth with dumplings and other veggies. The best part is when the crab legs have been soaking for a long time in the soup. Take 'em out and you can suck all the delicious soup off of the meat. It is a dream world. I get a large cup and have to go back for another because it's so good. Filling and it has amazing flavor. If you aren't a fan of chicken and all that great stuff that they are masters with here feel free to slide in on a Friday for some seafood soup. It will blow your mind and warm your soul. read more

But let me tell you, getting lost looking for one place and finding this one was fantastic. The stars of this visit were the lemonade and the nice counter guy who had us cracking up when we were ordering. The prices are on par with any other Jamaican spot but the seafood is cheaper. $13 for jerk salmon, 13.50 for shrimp dishes? Yes, thank you. The jerk salmon (steak, not filet) was SPICY, but well seasoned and delicious. It's a tad overcooked but not dry. The oxtails were pretty good too, well seasoned and most of the fat was trimmed off already. We both had good left back for the next day. I've visited this restaurant on more than one occasions and I always order the same thing, the oxtails with white rice and salad. I cannot give an opinion about anything other than their oxtails. Their oxtails are pretty good but I will say that it's not consistent. Some days it's under-seasoned and other days it's just right. Also, it can be tough some days and other days it's made to perfection. It really depends on the cook that day. In the past they have had issues with their service and now it has improved. The ladies behind the counter are really nice and they try to move as swift as they could (they don't move that fast because some are a bit older). Sometimes there's a wait to order but it's usually not a drastically long wait. The prices are pretty standard ranging from about $8 - $14, a medium oxtail dinner is about $12 and they do give you A LOT of food so you will not be disappointed with the quantity. This is one of my favorite jerk chicken spots! The chicken is cooked on a grill to perfection and is seasoned just right. The portions are huge so you definitely get your money's worth... How disappointing! I've passed this place several times but never stopped to try because I am a creature of habit and do not like trying new places, especially for Jamaican food. Today though, coming from the Dollar Tree next door, and not to mention also because I was hungry, I stopped for some ackee & saltfish. The inside isn't too fancy, not that I was expecting it be. After all it is a take out. Anyway, I ordered the ackee & saltfish which only comes in medium or large. I opted to the get the medium, I really only wanted a small. Once I sat down to eat, upon opening the tray, I was let down. There were about 3/4 soggy looking dumplings, one boiled banana and maybe a spoon full of ackee & saltfish. I am on the hunt for some of the best jerk chicken in Queens so this restaurant was one in the list close to me. I must say that I was excited to try it after countless reviews but little did I know how disappointed I would be. As soon as I walked in everything seemed so outdated and dull. There was one person ahead of me so a few seconds after the lady server said next in line. I asked for a medium jerk chicken sure as can be with rice and peas. She then asked if I wanted salad or veggies so I got veggies. It was prepared quickly and only cost $8.50...YAYYYY. I read the reviews for this spot a couple of months ago and didn't realize I drove past this place every single day on my way to work. In any case, I decided I wanted jerk chicken for dinner. I proceeded to order a large jerk chicken dinner, but due to a misunderstanding the nice lady provided me with large jerk chicken platter (chicken only). The chicken looked good so I told her I would take it and I ordered a small peas and rice with ox tail gravy (gotta have that gravy). Once I made it home I jumped into this chicken and I must say that this has got to be one of the best jerk chicken I've ever had. I added the sweet and spicy sauce before leaving the restaurant and it was a great addition. I've had my share of jerk chicken from plenty of restaurants and it really tastes like they season the chicken in addition to the Jerk rub. The peas and rice were cooked perfect and great compliment with the chicken. This was my first time here and it definitely will not be my last. I took away one star because the service was very slow and not friendly. But this seems typical of Caribbean restaurants. At first glance the outside of the shop looks like it needs maintenance but the inside was clean though cluttered. There were bootleg CDs for sale and good Reggae music playing. The rice itself has this aroma to it that I can't stop eating it. And my grandmother loves their curry goat dinner. This is the disappointment. Their jerk pork is tough like hell. You know the saying "It's like Pulling Teeth"? Perfect example. What a shame! And after a few hours, their salad looks brown and taste like its spoiling and the macaroni salad taste horrid too. Come on now, how can you mess up a good home cooked meal like that? And they need to improve a little more on their customer service. (YUK) i salvaged what i could and threw out the rest. third time i went here to give them a 3rd and final chance and they failed!!. chicken was raw and rubbery, the rice was once again disgusting. I was sitting in my car outside the restaurant and i was going to bring it back and ask for my money back but after the horrible customer service i received just placing a order i foresaw that there would most likely be a confrontation so i just threw out the rest. oh! not to mention that the hygiene standards at this place is non existent. people dishing out food while holding up rice spoon and coughing into their elbow with food trays open.
