Kassim's is my go to for bread. The bread is always fresh and so soft and delicious. The bread is also reasonably priced and lasts about a week which is great. They have a wide selection of hot foods and some baked goods. The lady who normally works the counter there is always so nice and friendly to me. read more

Our company got the Oxtail Roti, Curry Goat Roti, Jamaican/Guyana beef patty, Egg Ball, & Banana Cake. I normally don't know how Guyana food suppose to taste like but our colleague recommended it so it's a good venture to try. The Oxtail Roti was indeed flavorful. Definitely different from all other oxtail stews that I had. I just wish we had a bit more meat? instead of bones and sauce. But overall it definitely will warm your belly. The Curry Goat Roti was interesting. I didn't really taste any curry tbh eventhough it was drench in the sauce. Still flavorful regardless. The Egg ball reminded me of a scottish egg concept but more on the blander side. Definitely unique in it's own concept. The Guyana and Jamaican beef patty was probably not for me. For all the non spicy eaters out there the Jamaican one is definitely a kicker vs the Guyana version. The Banana Cake smelled and tasted more like a Banana Bread-ish? Has a bit of that wheat bread smell but semi soft to bread/cake like texture. Definitely on the sweeter side. Overall, this was interesting neither good or bad. I can't honestly compare this to anything as this is my first time eating this. I just know a lot of the selections has that cinnamon like smell to it and if you're not a cinnamon fan. That said, I wouldn't recommend the oxtails...it was a bit too tough for my liking. But aside from that, the other dishes were flavorful and worth trying! read more

So after reading the reviews I was a bit sceptical, I don't do bad behavior especially when it comes Customer service or my food! BUT I said since im going in the area, I'll pop in to survey of the place for myself. I' m glad I did! The young Lady that was previous mention in another post SHE was most helpful and patient even when I had to make a phone call for a replacement item. The older Lady gave me a smile of acknowledgment of my presence which was very inviting and warm. The place had a nice aroma no harsh overpowering smells considering the size comfortable with a couple of booths to eat inhouse. NOW onto the FOOD The food rotation was good I ordered 2 orders of Oxtails Peas n rice NICE PORTION for $10 was amazing they didn't count the oxtails which was a A plus! 2 orders of Curry Chicken rice n peas which I caught a fresh batch coming out the kitchen A Plus. Whoa. I tried this place because I've never been there before. I wanted to actually like it. It it did meet expectations. I was not impressed. I ordered the oxtail with chow mein. I didn't like either product. The oxtails were of a flavor I wasn't too fond of. I had plenty of oxtail from plenty of cultures. These were not my favorite. I also ordered their cheese rolls (I forgot the name). They were all bread and no cheese inside. Not too great. Other things that were ordered were just ok. This is one of queens nyc best bakeries. And it is a guyanese restaurant also a nice combination for rum cake and some of your best chicken roti with mango and 2 doubles some cassava. It is not the biggest restaurant but it is quality in there for all your favorite guyanese dishes. And the staff is very friendly. They have a nice lady that works there we call her mom's. She is a very cool lady ,when I come in there to order I say hello mom's how are doing. As she there to greet you with a smile .and I ask for salt fish cook up rice cassava bread ,or your curry duck.and curry chicken ,farine some garlic pork ,chana ,chow Mein chick peas. Sounds good so when you are in jamaica queens and you wants some good guyanese food.so stop by this place and get some good guyanese food.you can eat in or take out . but if you decided to stay ,the establishment is clean and the atmosphere is peaceful ,it is not a real big place but you have tables inside to eat at. No nonsense, what do you want, hot plate plates and fresh bread. I wanted some Caribbean/Jamaican food so Jamaica was the destination. After a failed visit to Bad Mon, we went to Kassim's Bakery for hunger-satisfying oxtail and duck curry. For sides we had greens and okra. One thing to be said, nothing was missing spice. Let's start with the customer service it was awful, from the staff to the owner it was just repulsive. I went to buy a cake from when I called they said the cake was $12 when I got there they said it's $20, ok that's fine I still got it while ordering I was asking the young lady to see the types they have and the prices on the different sizes and while showing me she was getting upset the owner then proceeded to start laughing an talking about me with her workers saying that she should buy me a tray of eggs to bake my own cake regardless of the service I got the black cake and the fruit cake. The fruit cake was just so horrendous it was box cake she added a raisins too and the black cake tasted like raw flour and butter. Ma'am I hope you see this review and know that if I could go back and bought my own eggs I'd bake my own cakes. This place has potential to be better; Two stars because I called to find out what they had available for lunch that day, I wanted to know if they had doubles whoever picked up the phone briefly stated " yeah, we got them" and hung up the phone. I assumed it was a mistake and I had other questions, I called back and asked if the person who hung up the phone did so by accident & asked again what other options they had for lunch; This time the person rudely stated " I don't have time to answer you questions and again hung up the phone . Although I was annoyed with this place already, I had my mind set on getting doubles for lunch so I went to the store; They have food displayed buffet style and I was able to get the doubles however, you only get the doubles with chana and tamarind, no meat doubles is available . I went by today just to have curry chicken roti. I am a big fan of Caribbean food. There's something comforting about a big plate of homemade family cuisine. I really enjoyed my time here, because the owner, Imran, was happy to see a new face and made sure I enjoyed my meal. It was pretty flavorful and tasty. I loved everything, yet the downside was that the chicken had so many bones! Perhaps there could be a boneless option for more $. I'm not a huge fan of the Mauby, since it was bitter but somehow surprising cold and refreshing...just a bitter gourd aftertaste, so I probably will not get that. Something tells me that I would enjoy the sorrel drink more. It was great to have this for lunch, and maybe I'll try the curry duck roti next time. Maybe I went on the wrong day for my first visit. I ordered curry goat roti. I was given 6 pcs and 4 bones. I also been craving an egg ball, something I haven't had in many years. Of course it was smallest egg ever. Biggest fail was the roti and the egg ball taste like pure dough and too much flour. I'm completely let down on this one. I stopped in today because I had a taste for some jerk chicken. I had never eaten from here before but I came in because the restaurant I usually eat from has closed. It may not be the best looking restaurant but the food was great and anything just looked good. I ordered some Jerk Chicken, Cook up Rice and plantains. The young lady that made my plate really packed the food into that tray. The prices was great especially for the amount of food you get and the food taste great. The staff was nice and friendly. I was in the neighborhood and I decided to stop by for some treats. I got a couple different types of bread (tennis roll and loaf bread), some savory snacks (sal sel, salted chickpeas), and a couple of sweet treats (pine-tart and chocolate wafers). All of things we bought was fresh (except the chocolate wafers as that is not made in store and was pre-packaged by another company) and tasty. It can be a bit on the more expensive side (compared to some places on Liberty Avenue), but you can taste the freshness. The staff were helpful, like offered to get a fresher loaf of bread (not sure how true that was, since the bread on display looked pretty fresh) but they did have the *sigh, I do not want to be here and stop talking to me* attitude. I was there the other day and bought pastries. I realized that when I brought it home it didn't look fresh , the cheese roll was pure dough and barely any cheese and dry . I tried eating one the day after and to my surprise the cheese roll was filled with black mold that looked fuzzy . I quickly threw everything in the garbage and decided never ever to go there again . It was obvious that the pastries was out in the heat for days before being sold . I would not recommend this place to anyone again . read more

So I've become sooooo disenfranchised with Rockaway Roti Shop and am now seeking alternatives. I've been hearing about Kassim's through the grapevine for a while now. Thus past Sunday I decided to give it a try. It's a lil dirty looking hole in the wall on Jamaica Ave. Limited street parking exists in the best of circumstances. The food under glass looked a little sketchy too in regards to freshness. The only sensory hint of greatness eminates from the back...the bakery! They're not going to win any prizes for prompt service either...it was staffed by an older gent and matronly Aunty whose advanced ages dictated their physical efforts accordingly. They were exceedingly pleasant though. So why the four stars? When I got home and ate the food I was pleasantly surprised. Some items blew me away. They have one of the best prepared duck curries in NYC. The duck is sooo soft, apparently one of the few kitchens that understand the intricacies of a Pressure Pot. They also cut the duck meat in such a normal fashion as not to challenge the human mouth. Other kitchens cut the meat in a purposeful jagged way in order to induce lacerations to your tongue and walls of your mouth. Your tongue has to perform an artful dance to avoid being impaled eating other duck curries. Not here....thank God! Their chicken curry is very good also but it's a lil heavy on the Clove. Their Dall is meh...a bit watery. The rice is on the medium hard side also. I prefer soft "pop" rice. Their Butter Flap when fresh is probably the best in class. It slays Little Guyana's offering. Their cheese roll should be studied by Sybils for QA and taste standards. They couldn't match Sybils Pone though. It wasn't sweet or moist enough to dethrone Sybils offering. I'll be back for their bread and roti at some point. I can't believe it took me 21 years to come here. It's just not convenient for a typical Liberty Ave snob like me I guess. My loss. I had a very bland oxtail. I waited so long for the guy to take my order, he was helping a previous customer so I waited and he realized I was standing there and instead just ignored me. Some guy who just walked in and shouted his order and they took it out for him right away. Two people got their order before I did, now when it comes for me to pay, the teenage girl working the cash register has a attitude problem and helps some other woman who wants to buy rolls. I don't know if this is a family runned business, but they all need to check their attitudes and not tend to a certain demographic of customers. It's first come first serve. read more

I have been going here with my granny since I was 7 years old. It had been owned by the same person ever since and the baked good and service has remained the same. We have never had a complaint here. The place is extremely clean and we'll kept, the service is great and the bread is delicious! It is hard to find parking in this area, most people double park but I guarantee you'll get a ticket. There's usually a line but they also always take care of it quickly. I recommend the bread, the tennis roll and the sweet bread, so delicious! At Christmas time, we always call ahead and the owner saves our loaves of bread for us which is so nice because I don't know of another bakery that would do that. I don't go to any other bakeries because I don't get the freshness and authentic west Indian style goods like I do when I go here. This location isn't in ozone park but it's on Jamaica Avenue which is very accessible and easy to get to from every location. read more
