The first thing this useless company did upon taking over my apartment's "property management" duties a few years ago was to put up their pretty little company signs in every entryway. And that was about ALL they ever did. I suspect this company's business plan is to bid super low in order to win contracts, then do as little as humanly possible while sitting on their payment. Snow plowing was very slow, weekly cleanings and leaf raking happened maybe once every 2-3 months, garbage that the wind blew out of recycling bins and dumpster were left sitting around for weeks at a time, hallway light bulbs that burned out were seldom or very slowly ever replaced---I could go on and on, but you get the idea. In a nutshell: These people SUCK. Praises be unto bejesus, the landlords went with a different "property management" company after one year of frequent complaints by various tenants. Of course GTI left its annoying signs screwed into all of our entryways...an apt metaphor, perhaps. read more

I lived at 490 Harrison for two years, and it is without a doubt one of the nicest apartments I've ever lived in. That being said, GTI properties should be ashamed of the way they run their properties. To ellicit any type of response from maintenance, I was forced to email constantly for even just an acknowledgment. Even after, they would make you feel belittled for having the audacity to reach out with a problem and it was a 50/50 chance for them to send someone over to "fix it". Two separate events stand out for me that each took over THREE MONTHS to fix. If I had not continued to follow up, they never would have followed through. To be completely honest, I don't even know if one of them was fixed because I moved out before they did anything about it. The other could have been completely avoided if they had acknowledged my first request of a leaking HVAC unit... I do not blame the parking attendants or the maintenance workers, they are just following orders from higher up. I blame the management at GTI properties and how incredibly disorganized and disrespectful they are. One last food for thought, they've gone through two rental property managers in the last two years. That right there says something about the leadership at that company. Don't let the beautiful units fool you, it's not worth the headache. read more

I've lived in the SoWa properties of GTI for a few months now, and usually I'm not terribly motivated to write reviews, but GTI deserves it when compared to the last place I lived. The management (Sabrina) and maintenance (Tony) + their teams are professional, reliable, and wildly responsive (sometimes completing maintenance requests within 2 hours of the initial email). Since I started living here, it has been clean, quiet, completely stress free, and most importantly - very safe, which is far more than I could ever say for my living situations in the past. read more

My office is in one of their buildings in SOWA. The building is spotless and very well maintained. If there is ever an issue, someone comes right away. I lived in one of GTI's buildings on St. Botolph Street for a little over a year. Overall, a great building with good management. My place was pretty recently renovated, with new kitchen appliances. The apartment was newly cleaned and painted when I moved in and the maintenance man introduced himself to me about a day after move in. Since I came from a place where you practically had to enlist the FBI to locate maintenance, this was a welcome change. In the year and a half I lived here, I never had a real maintenance issue. The only time I called maintenance was when my light bulbs burned out - but they still almost always responded within 24 hours. The only issue I ever had while living here was seeing a mouse in my unit. However, after I reported it, they had an exterminator out within 2 days. And after that, I noticed that they had the exterminator making regular visits. They dealt with it quickly and it never turned into a problem. This is the best management company experience I've had in Boston. Highly recommend. read more

If I have to you have to be reported to the attorney general's office, you probably should rethink your strategy. From my perspective they are only good at taking your money and not giving it back.... this has to be one of the most entitled and rude property management companies I have ever come across. Let me explain, I applied for an apartment, they accepted me. Then my check was cashed without my knowledge or consent. When I told them I did not want to rent their apartment they kept my money and told me that it was a kind gesture of them to give it back to me and that they had every right too keep it. There were quite a few things they did against the law, but this is yelp, and we need not go into it. Be careful if you do not already rent from them, oh, and don't expect anyone to answer their phones, just emails full of avoidance from Bradley. read more

While the properties are nice, maintenance and management is an absolute mess. I lived there for only one year, and they went through 3 different property managers. Furthermore, maintenance is so slow to respond. We had a roof that leaked the same place over and over, and it took anywhere from 2 weeks to a month to fix it each time. When asking for compensation, they stated that this was an appropriate response time (we had damage to our property they refused to compensate us for). Overall, bad experience- stay away. read more

So I've lived in a GTI building for 4 years. And I have to say, I've been quite happy with the experience (more like 4.5 stars). Brad is quite responsive to needs, and I love that he will respond to things over email (b/c it can be tough to catch him on the phone). Whenever there was any problem with maintenance, the problem was fixed fairly quickly. The guys were so sweet, they even helped me replace a few lightbulbs I couldn't reach! They've made upgrades periodically too (key fobs, upgraded water heater, new light fixtures). I wish that the notices as far as when they're going to do inspections and such was done via email rather than paper as sometimes I away and notices could be last minute, but they've gotten much better over the years. And I've NEVER seen a pest in my building! Not even a spider!!!! My biggest gripe has to do with the other people in my building. It was FABULOUS up until July 2010 when there was a lot of turnover. The building has a lot of professionals, but there are a fair number of fresh college grads in graduate school who need to learn that this is NOT a dorm. IE - leaving your smelly trash in the hall because you're too lazy to take it to the dumpster, bouncing a basketball in the hall when you come home late at night, smoking right outside the building entrance so everyone can get second hand exposure, and blaring music late at night really isn't appropriate (esp when there are people who need to be up at 5am on Saturday). In fact, there was an issue earlier in the year where someone was vandalizing the washers and dryers and BREAKING them. At one point, only ONE out of FOUR washers was working. But as an example as to how responsive GTI can be, they placed a security camera in the laundry, caught the asshole responsible, and it's been fine ever since. On the RARE occasion that there was a mistake/inconvenience, GTI went out of their way to make up for it. All in all, I would happily rent with GTI again. ***PS - Major bonus points for letting out of town guests rent parking at the big lot they run. read more

I lived in 460B from Sept 2015 and we're about to move out. I don't write a lot of yelp reviews - but these guys are probably the best landlords I've ever had. No security deposit monkey business; very responsive maintenance; security guys around the neighborhood are good. We were able to end our lease early and get a back-fill so they waived charges for early termination. Once the elevator in our building broke for a few days - they gave out gift certificates to the local restaurant to apologize. They had to tow our car once (for SoWa sunday) - and gave us a pass on the fee. Little things like that go a long way. Just really reasonable business people, with solid customer service. After years of DC and NYC terrible landlords - this company is a refreshing change for the better. I highly recommend them. read more

Brad (the property manager) & GTI have been great to me over the past 2 years that I have lived here. I started in a studio and then moved over to a 2 bedroom- both apartments were cleaned and repaired upon move in and they are even willing to do extras like paint if you ask nicely. Brad is extremely responsive and fair with requests and does most anything to accomodate you. They own a ton of buildings in the South End so if you want to move around or upgrade, they have lots of apartments to choose from. I highly reccomend renting with GTI. read more

GTI is one of the real estate giants of Boston's South End. Legend has it that the company owner bought a bunch of South End properties way back when it was a scary neighborhood...and did so well in the process that he eventually moved to Italy (GTI = 'Gone To Italy'). I can't attest to the accuracy of that story, but it's fun, no? However, I can absolutely attest to the quality of units and service that GTI provides. They are a well-oiled machine. If you've ever rented from a small-time operation and experienced nightmares with your landlord, GTI will be a complete breath of fresh air - they are total pros, in every respect. I rented a great 2-bedroom from GTI in the South End for two+ years and they were exceptionally responsive, friendly and efficient in handling all aspects of their tenants' experience. I relocated to NYC and moved into a Archstone building thinking it would be a similarly-excellent operation and I was SO wrong. Bigger doesn't always mean better. GTI is big, but not too big to care personally about your experience. I would rent from them again in a heartbeat. read more

GTI Properties is one of the best management companies in the Boston area that I have encountered. Their staff is professional and knowledgeable, and made the leasing process very easy and quick. For the few maintenance issues I did have while renting an apartment from GTI, they were solved 99% of the time on the same day that I called it in. I have to give this a one star. While the apartments are great, this review is a reflection of the management company which is lacking. I must excuse the parking attendants who are wonderful and friendly, but the management company and property manager have been rude and difficult to deal with. This seems to have changed for the worst over the past few years, which can maybe be explained by the growing popularity and renovation of the area, but at a price for the neglect of its residents. Depending on your location I understand this may vary. But the SOWA property region has become very noisy in the over crowded parking lots, constant construction and need to redo, among other disruptions inside and outside of the buildings. Poor communication and updates of work to be done outside, in units, or the building. Not a great space for those with children or who prefer peace and quiet. read more

We've been living in a building that GTI manages for a year and a half, on Columbus Ave in the South End. It's been awesome and stress-free. Some of the many good points: * Brad (property manager) is great -- super responsive by email, professional, reasonable, accommodating, communicative. * Building is clean (I run into folks vacuuming the hallways every once in a while on my way to work) and well maintained... * ... and on the rare occasions that something goes wrong, maintenance is on top of things -- I leave a request on their phone extension in the morning, and when I come home in the evening it is done like magic, no staying-home-to-meet-the-repairman necessary. When we first moved in I gave them a slightly OCD fixit list -- a few items took a reminder, but it all got done pretty promptly, no hassle. * They have always notified us well in advance if they need to get in the apartment for any reason (inspection, exterminator, whatever) -- leaving a note on the door or emailing. It's a pretty infrequent occurrence too. * I love our apartment -- sunny and well laid out -- we looked at a few other GTI building while apartment hunting and they all seemed to be in similarly great condition. * They're set up for automatic rent deposit from your checking account which is very convenient -- no need to remember to write a check and mail it or drop it off, no need to visit a bank monthly. We're moving to Somerville, but if we were staying in the South End I would go out of my way to stay in a building they manage. read more

My experience with renting a GTI property on St. Botolph Street was extremely positive. Not only was the location about as good as it gets, the management took extremely good care of the property. My two female roommates and I have lived in one of G.T.I's properties on St. Botolph for almost 1 year now, and can not have had a better experience. We came to Boston last summer for a short few days to look for housing, and by a freckle of a chance, ended up at this property. We were immediately drawn to the residential as well as the location, and became to-be-tenants that day. When we moved in September, we were relieved to know our property manager lived above us. Brad was very accommodating during our transition in, throughout our entire stay, and 'til the day we moved out. We could not have had a better manager! Some great highlights about this management: -When there is a problem, it is quickly mitigated. We had an issue with our washer/dryer where it didn't work and emailed Brad about it, and within days were replaced with a brand new unit. -Like mentioned, Brad's response to any of our issues was always expeditiously executed. We were always rest assured that if there was anything we needed or any maintenance that needed to be done, it was tended to as quickly as the next day. -We were always forewarned and given ample notice of when pest control or any type of inspection would go on in the property. -The building is continuously up-kept and looks very nice and clean inside. I have seen many times over the building being vacuumed, and even repainted a few weeks ago. -In my building, our neighbors always pulled our packages and mail into the building so it wouldn't be left loose out in the main door. So considerate! These are just a few of the many perks of living under this management. Sadly my roommates and I's stay here had to come to a conclusion because we had to relocate to live closer to school, but if we could, we could continue living here. If you are searching these properties and are considering to live in one of them, I would with a certainty and absolutely no hesitation recommend GTI Properties and their management. read more

We ended up breaking our lease early only to move to a nearby neighborhood and Brad, the property manager, was so helpful. I rented an apartment from GTI Properties for two and a half years. I found the management office and the maintenance staff to be professional, caring, hard working, and responsible. Patrick responds very quickly and does a great job at following through, in a very personable way. The maintenance staff goes out of their way to be helpful and they do very thorough and good work. I would give GTI 1-star solely for noise issues. Noise has been an issue on and off in the past but it has become a really big problem this summer and all of the noise is generated by management's activities (other residents and businesses in the community are really respectful about noise). It's unfortunate, because prior to this summer, I would have written a much more positive review. Right now the noise is such an issue that it's overshadowing all of those good things. I would love to be able to sleep-in, relax, and just enjoy being at home on Sundays (I work hard Mon - Fri), but that has been hard to do this summer. I am awoken super early by tow trucks most Sundays (6 am). Then things get super noisy once the markets start because GTI decided to start hosting live music in the parking lot right below the residences on Sundays this year. The noise is so loud that I can't watch TV, read,or just relax in my home - Sundays have literally become a headache. The Olympics kicked off on Friday and I would love to be watching right now but I can't hear the commentators over the music - bummer! I am hopeful that because these issues are in theory readily addressable that something can be done. They really do negatively impact living here, which is a shame because without these issues I would have a lot of great things to say about the community. read more
