I ruv it! They bought out free chips and salsa and the salsa tasted homemade, like the garlic and spice level. We got the nachos with steak which is an entree in itself. It was nicely layered and every bit is full of flavor and toppings. We also got the mole poblano with chicken was a nice size, a thigh and a leg, and came with rice and beans. For our third entree we ordered the bistec with nopales (cactus leaf) which was also a big portion that came with rice beans and salad and some nicely warmed soft tortillas wrapped in a hot towel. We enjoyed everything! The price was right and waitress was nice. I had one week this year where my stomach was in a lot of pain; I decided to try a veggie burrito from here on a whim, and it turned out to be the only thing that didn't hurt me all week! (Not to mention, it was DELICIOUS.) I've been a loyal customer since, as the experience definitely speaks to the quality of the food. Since then I've tried a lot of things on their menu, and found that my favorite is the chorizo flautas -- they're packed with flavor, and come with a nice side of their beans and rice. This is a cute spot, though I always seem to do take-out, and the staff is always super sweet and quick when I go in (they even had some chocolate for Halloween!) They have some grocery items available too -- I've grabbed maseca and queso fresco from here which I generally haven't been able to find at bodegas nearby. Came into the bodega hoping to try some bangin food. Ordered a quesadilla, chicharron in a verde sauce, and some other dish served with red sauce. Overall, the flavors weren't to my liking. The style it was cooked in, the chicharron was mostly fatty and blubbery drenched in the sauce. I generally prefer the crispy crunchy way. This was the complete opposite to what I'm use to. The hot sauces were on point. The quesadilla was mediocre, wasn't to die for. My son didn't really enjoy it. He's not a picky eater and I feed him good food so I can trust his taste buds. Verdict - I must give them another try and order something else from their crazy menu. Im gonna give them another chance and have an updated review in the near future. For me fresh sopes right off the grill oozing with cheese are hard to beat, and don't even need to be layered with crema on top. In the neighborhoods of Ridgewood and Bushwick, there is certainly no dearth of taquerias. They of course vary in quality (reliant on seemingly random factors) and are central in a debate as to which are, indeed, "the best." I can't make a claim for everyone's taste buds, as apparently I'm in the minority opinion on some of these places, but Guadalajara is easily my favorite Mexican joint in the entire area. It's also a convenient place to do some shopping for produce and Mexican groceries, if I'm inclined to do the cooking myself that night. The menu goes beyond the typical tortas, tostadas and tacos and ventures into a variety of dishes that includes soups, seafood and even breakfast (if you come early enough). Now, of course, the above-mentioned items are available, but what's nice is that there is seemingly more variety than usual. The key part to Guadalajara that sells it to me as my "favorite" has to be the taste. It's absolutely authentic Mexican cooking that isn't afraid to use seasoning and spices to ensure the flavors are all there. The guacamole, in particular, is absolutely fantastic. The portions are fairly generous and the prices are easy on the wallet; a combination that I find rarely leaves anyone irritated. West Coast pals of mine, who swear that it's impossible to find good Mexican (or Korean) food in NYC have even been satisfied with the food offerings here. And, while I'm sure they're not infallible, this at least probably means something if we think about it for a few moments. While I typically take my food from here to go, there are a few tables in the middle of this deli/restaurant where people are almost always busily eating away. With a decent selection of Mexican beers and sodas, it's also not a bad idea to take a seat and enjoy oneself every so often. While it's certainly not the finest dining experience to be had in all of Ridgewood, Guadalajara deserves some mildly enthusiastic attention, at the very least. read more

I'm from California, and this place is okay, but not a real Cali burrito. The veggie burrito doesn't really have any veggies in it -- it is a bean, rice and cheese burrito with some pico de gallo. But it is good and flavorful. Wish they had black beans or pinto for a healthier, lighter substitute. Chips are super crunchy and thick -- authentic taqueria tortilla chips. Guac is okay. Their green salsa needs some work -- the flavor is almost bitter and the consistency is too watery. But it has good heat which doesn't always happen with green sauce. Place is a small deli that sells other sundries. There is limited seating and feels a little funny because you're basically eating inside a corner store amongst the aisles of food. This is the cleanest grocery store that I have been to in the area. Sure, it is old and worn down, but it is still clean. They have a huge selection of drink to go along with your food purchases. The outside window has photos of the menu items, but on the inside of the building there is no menu posted. You will have to ask the girl at the counter for a handheld menu. It takes about 10-15 minutes for them to make the food fresh for you. We ordered Tostadas and a Torta today. The Toastadas are really crispy and the chorizo here is divine. The Torta has an entire layer of jalapenos on top, which burns a bit but totally worth it. I cannot wait to come back and try some more items. Especially the tacos! read more

I have lived near Guadalajara De Dia 2 for 2 YEARS and somehow just found out about it a couple of months ago. I can't believe how much of my life was wasted not eating these tacos! My favorite are the carnitas tacos. The pork is seasoned well, the guacamole is great, tortillas are chewy and delicious. Also, make sure you get both the red and green sauce with them- they are both insanely delicious! The salsa verde tastes so fresh and light and really adds to the flavor of the taco. The portions here are big and the price is reasonable. Around 10 dollars for three HUGE tacos. I highly recommend if you are in the area! read more

There's plenty of good Mexican food to be had in Ridgewood, but Guadalajara De Dia is a cut above. From the street, it looks like a modest storefront, with barely any signage. But when I first stuck my head in the door -- the place was packed, there were whole families sitting at tables pushed together, everyone seemed to be having a great time, and man the portions looked hearty. It's a neighborhood hot spot for a reason. The freshness of the ingredients is clearly noticeable. Every time I've been here, the food has been prepared just right, never overcooked, and is popping with flavor. Even the side rice and beans are worth highlighting. There's nuance to all elements of a meal, from the sauces to meats/vegetables/cheeses to guacamole to anything else. Service is also fast and friendly. Got the carne asada burrito + three tacos (pollo asada, chorizo and carne asada). Everything was great. The burrito was topped with guacamole, red and white sauce and then powdered with queso. This business is a small grocery with some meats and cheeses available, fresh baked items, a bit of produce, and four tables. The menu includes the basic a la carte Mexican deli items--tortas, tacos, tostadas, tamales and burritos. They also have seafood options and platters ranging from fried pork chops to poblano mole. While I have tried a variety of items--at prices that top out at $13.00, it is worth the risk--I return to the tostadas. Each tostada is $2.00 and comes with your choice of nine meats, a smear of beans, lettuce, tomato, and dairy. Peppers are available as is guacamole, though I always order mine without. Snagging a Snapple, Arizona Iced Tea, or Diet Coke, and my two tostada meal is just over $5.00. It is filling, with high quality meats and a side of spicy sauce, and I have yet to be disappointed!
