Nestled in the charming neighborhood of Ridgewood, Queens, Ortra Casita Mexicana is a delightful gem that beautifully marries authentic Mexican cuisine with a vibrant atmosphere. From the moment I stepped inside, I was captivated by the restaurant's stunning decor, which effortlessly blends modern aesthetics with traditional Mexican elements. The vibrant colors, intricate tile work, and eye-catching wall art create an inviting space that is perfect for snapping those Instagram-worthy photos. The standout feature of the decor is undoubtedly the large mural that adorns one of the main walls. This piece not only adds a splash of color but also tells a story, making it a fantastic backdrop for photos. Each corner of the restaurant features thoughtfully curated decor that reflects the rich culture of Mexico, making the dining experience feel immersive and special. Now, onto the food--Oh, the food! Ortra Casita Mexicana offers a menu that is a celebration of authentic Mexican flavors. The tacos are a must-try; each bite bursts with freshness, and the variety offered caters to both meat lovers and vegetarians alike. I particularly enjoyed the veggie Quesadillas, which were perfectly seasoned and served with a side of homemade guacamole, pico, and sour cream, the chips and appetizers were a great start, but be mindful to save room for the main dish. The attention to detail in the dishes reflects a deep respect for traditional recipes, and it's clear that the chefs take great pride in their craft. The staff at Ortra Casita Mexicana were exceptionally friendly and attentive. From the moment we were greeted at the door, we felt welcomed and valued as customers. The servers were knowledgeable about the menu and offered great recommendations, ensuring that our dining experience was seamless and enjoyable. Their warmth added to the overall inviting ambiance of the restaurant. Cleanliness is another aspect where Ortra Casita Mexicana shines. The restaurant was spotless, from the dining area to the restrooms, which is always a key factor for me when choosing a place to eat. It's evident that the staff takes cleanliness seriously, which enhances the overall dining experience. Situated in a nice neighborhood, Ortra Casita Mexicana is easily accessible and feels safe for an evening out. The local vibe adds to the charm, making it a perfect spot for both casual dinners and special occasions. Plus, the background music, a blend of contemporary and traditional Mexican tunes, provided a lively yet relaxed atmosphere that complemented our meal perfectly. In conclusion, Ortra Casita Mexicana is a delightful addition to Ridgewood's dining scene. With its beautiful decor, delicious and authentic cuisine, friendly staff, and a clean, inviting environment, it's a place I would highly recommend to anyone craving a taste of Mexico. The only reason I'm holding back from a full five stars is that I'd love to see a bit more variety in their dessert and a little more comfort in their seating. Nevertheless, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit, and I can't wait to return!

I came here by myself after getting my nails done for lunch. I sat at the bar but the server said I could sit wherever I wanted to. The inside was cute and their bathroom was clean. For food they gave chips and salsa and I ordered the enchiladas. The salsa wasn't good but the enchiladas were good.

We've been trying local spots in ridgewood and this small restaurant was next on our list. Cute spot to have some drinks and tacos. Service despite the reviews was actually great. The girls were very attentive and very sweet. Cocktails were delicious and refreshing. Fav taco was the fish tacos. I wasn't a fan of the esquites needed more cheese perhaps. I would recommend to try as a local spot in ridgewood I know there are great tacos spots but this location did have good tacos if you're in the area

The best Mexican spot in Queens. Understated but elegant decor. Consistently high quality and delicious food served by an amazing staff led by Paula, Manuela, Lady and Evelyn. For starters we like the Mexican Oysters, Queso Fundido, Ceviche Mixte and Grilled Calamari. For mains we always get the Chicken Quesadilla and a mix of tacos, usually fish, octopus or your choice of meats. The surprise dish is the Grilled Branzino. Perfect with the mash potatoes! Coffee is awesome with or without milk. Love it and highly recommend!!

This was our second time here. The drinks are very good. The whiskey business presentation was just so cute, check out the video. To start we had some guacamole and chips. Very delicious, excellent and fresh chips, they are actually warm.. For dinner this time we had enchiladas which were delicious. The rice ratio was a bit small but it did not matter cause we're all trying to be carb free, right? Not pictured was chicken tacos, very vey good. The chicken was so tasty, moist and very tender. The tacos do not come with pico or sour cream, make sure to ask for these two things if it's a must have for you as it is for us! Did not have space for dessert, but i am sure it's also good.

I went for a drink and definitely want to come back. That pina colada was so large, well worth the $13. I sat at the bar and we got free chips and cheese sauce AND got it refilled! The food smelled amazing and looked delicious. AND there are a lot of virgin drink options as well. I love the decor and the bartender was very attentive.

Came with a friend after church for a little lunch and girl time. The menue runs from reasonable priced items to a little pricey. The environment is very cute some good photo oops. It wasn't very loud in there. The server was pretty attentive. My formes had a margarita it was too strong for her but for others it would probably be just right. The portion sizes are decent if you eat like 1-2 servings if you are a big eater then it may be a little small. The food was flavor full and good. I would try them again. I have a feeling it could be more lively spot in the evening.

I've passed this place a million times and today I finally ventured in. What a hidden treasure! We stopped in for a quick drink and hands down the best michelada I've ever had. We followed up with a Pepino Diablo which was also very good. The ambiance is super chill and layed back. The establishment is super clean, which I always notice and the hostess Leti was a doll. The presentation of the drink was awesome, absolutely beautiful. You'll see in the pics. I can go on and on. Definitely a go to in Middle Village. My new favorite.

    Caesar Salad

Ordered delivery and am severely disappointed in their Caesar salad. It is $15 and the description includes croutons. My order arrived with zero croutons. $15 for lettuce, lightly sprinkled with cheese and dressing on the side is unacceptable.

That 1 star is for the drinks, is one of those drinks that you get nice with just 1drink but then you want to order another round but the bartender is too busy talking to her home girls and not paying att to the customers. hanging out with her gf's at the bar and she is not paying attention to her customers, but anyways, when u go to a restaurant and you have to return the food is not a good sign! ;( Thanks God I survive another weird culinary aventure at the great city of world! I'm not going to even mention what I had, but I had steak and it was pretty bad steak, dry very dry steak, byeeee!!!

Definitely coming back i ate so much it hurt! The nachos were soo good and it's such a cute place!

The bar is a bit on the smaller side in terms of seating, but it has a TON of personality. I loved the eclectic decorations and knickknacks around the seating areas and the bar. The bartender had the TV tuned in to Jeopardy, so my inner (or extremely obvious?) nerd was beaming. In terms of the drinks themselves, I tried the cocoa orange whiskey (?) infusion on the rocks, and my BF had the chipotle paloma. We would both say they were solid, definitely not at "craft cocktail" level, but decent. This bar has a fun + dive-y feel - the kind of place where you get a beer, a plate of chicken nuggets, and watch trash tv with your neighborhood crew (I think they actually do have people who have a weekly Bachelorette viewing during the week). Definitely worth checking out if you're already in the area and looking for ~vibes.~

I've had a number of drinks here and it's been a great meeting spot for late night occasions, especially ones that revolve around a good drink. No doubt it's one of the more underrated nightlife venues in the borough. The setup feels like something out of a Brooklyn type bar - pseudo hipster vibe, casual environment with the whole board games and stacks of books all within a space that is well divided to give a different feel in each corner of the small'ish interior. Like a living room extension but with adult company. Of course, the bar is the most prominent thing in the room and it's a great place to chill as a solo patron. Groups can congregate in the lounge-y areas but the feel is remarkably different depending on where one choses to hang. On a beverage front, there is no shortage of quality drinks to be had. The cocktails are well made and not expensive; the bartenders do a good job of making sure each drink carries a certain kind of potency before leaving the bar. The happy hours are lovely as well, combined with a good deals ($5 shot + beer special, $5 cocktails, etc.) and even better hours (2-8pm!). Lastly, I appreciate a good name. Bad Old Days can be interpreted in many facets, but I think this establishment prides itself on good company and somehow rewards us with simple, good drinks. Bring a friend or three, enjoy the random movies that get projected onto the wall, and enjoy a late night capper in a quiet part of an emerging part of Queens.

These were skippable to be honest: mega thick bacon (just ok) home fries (meh) The chilaquiles (pork chorizo, salsa ranchera, crema, queso fresco, sunny up eggs) lacked flavor for a dish with so much going on. Every staff member was super young--barely legal or not even. Every interaction felt like staff were practicing their lines, playing a role in a play, and us, customers, were just cast. Waiters and buss boys were speaking to us like we were dumb/deaf/on the spectrum/high/drunk. It was so disconcerting. Never had such weird experience. Made me so uncomfortable. We were the first ones in the door with 11am reservation on a Saturday. The place filled up quickly. High noise level. Not the best for large groups. The burgers sell out quickly, as only 68 are prepared daily, so we snagged those right away. So delicious. Double smashed cheeseburger--simple and satisfying. Very rich. Would return for this again. French toast was disappointing. Looked pretty but tasted of nothing. It wasn't French toast in a traditional preparation: it was bread pudding cut into a slice and drizzled with syrup and served French toast style. The texture was of a moist but bland bread pudding. Utterly disappointing. Skip. War potatoes (crispy potatoes that are served as a side, with a dollop of super spicy sauce) were very tasty. Double or triple fried to a crispy perfection. Love me some perfectly crisp potatoes. These are super caloric, so prepare for some heartburn after. Ask for war sauce on the side because it is SPICY. House made pistachio gelato was superb. So many pistachios--I'd eat this daily and would return for this!
