I'd read some decent reviews so Stopped in yesterday for some supper. I ordered the Ultimate Fajita Burrito and a water. I know everyone is strapped for people so I'm willing to cut some slack but I didn't get any refills when I finished the water and sat there for a while before I finally got my check. As for the food, there was something... off. There was a flavor in the steak burrito that tasted like a lot of cloves was used. It wasn't tasty and really didn't make me want to come back for another bite. I ate half since I was hungry but eventually had to give up since it had that weird flavor. read more

Food was good and fairly priced. Our service experience wasn't the best though. We got there and I'm greeted with Chips, salsa and waters. Afterwards our actual server came and it felt like we were a nuisance. The people that work in this restaurant are good people. They are not the same as the bad people who work at the opera house. The food comes to your table at this restaurant cooked and not just at room temperature. When they ask you if you need or want anything they actually go get it. This restaurant should give classes to the Maverick employees on how to get the actual order to the table. This is the best Mexican restaurant by Roy's sport shop. read more

Not a bad place. Prices are fair and the food was about as expected. It comes out hot and fast. If you're looking for a decent Mexican food place you won't be disappointed. Couple draw backs for me, service was a bit spotty because the waiter had a ton of tables. This is a huge restaurant with very authentic Mexican food. Being from Chula Vista California just a few mile from Mexico I know Mexican food. The table salsa was 5/10 the chips were made fresh and very good. The tacos are traditional street tacos we had Tacos al Pastor and Tacos de Carne Asada. Both were excellent served with cilantro and onions on two small corn tortillas with radish garnish. What made the tacos for me was the green salsa. If they don't serve it please ask for it . Excellent but mucho caliente. Very hot. I asked for the whole beans instead of refried and they were not from a can, rice was better than average! Service was excellent a very quiet, bright and cheery atmosphere. read more

One of the best Mexican places in town. Great staff and quick service. Yep hey can get pretty busy in the evening but service is still fast.

I love there white queso here. When I come here or to the diff locations around s dakota I always get the queso and eat the chips and salsa there and get my actual meal in a box. Chip and salsa togo aren't free but I can eat them there. I actually think my favorite thing here to eat is the chips queso and salsa. Meh, mediocre. The statement of most authentic in town may be true just because there isn't anything else. Food was a little bland and greasy. Also, I've never been to a place with spicy retried beans before. Not that I'm saying they were bad, just not what I expected. Better than a chain for sure. Great food! It's so hard to find good Mexican food in this area! This place is great! Friendly staff. Quick service. Clean. I love the decor. I grew up in a town with access to authentic Mexican food, so i'm pretty spoiled. Having said that, the definition of Mexican food around here is "tex mex ", this place is NOT tex mex. In town for a business meeting and it stopped in on a Wednesday night. Staff was extremely friendly, chips and salsa were fresh, margaritas were good and the food was great. Love the authentic decor! Would definitely come back the next time I'm in town. read more

All things considered I am giving this place 2 of 5. I would definitely not call it "authentic" Mexican or even very good tex mex but the quality of food is good even though the salsa doesn't taste like salsa at all and the menu is limited and a bit pricey. This is one of my favorite places to go with my mom and sister. We always seem to get the same waiter but he's really friendly and making jokes all the time. There are a few menu items I really like, so I now stick with those when we go here. I don't know if it depends on who is cooking, but I ordered a taco salad once where the meat was so spice I couldn't eat it. I like spicy things, and can handle heat, but this was so hot that I was in pain. I ordered a beef burrito the next time we went and the meat was the same, overly spicy hot, and I could only eat a small amount of my food before giving up. Also, watch out for hair in your food. My waiter was good, quick and efficient. Salsa and chips came fast and were good. Food was also fast and hot but it wasn't what I was hoping. I got the burrito, while my wife got the enchiladas; both of our meals came out like soup. What ever sauce they put on top was watered down and got everything wet, it all dripped right off when going for a bite. Rice was tasteless and also covered in this water sauce. If you want Mexican Food, this is your only option in Brookings for a sit down restaurant style place. The only reason I give it 3 stars is because the quality of the food isn't superb. The service is great. The complimentary chips & salsa is excellent. The main course meal with runny beans & rice is kind of a turn-off.
