I've been going since they were limited to their Miramar location. Having been to all of their locations at this point they're all very beautiful. We end up visiting the Carlsbad location the most, as it's the most convenient location on our way up and down from LA. Perfect place to get some food around the area and have a drink before picking up a case to take home. They have a great and varied selection of beers for everyone. I'm a big IPA fan so I tend to lean towards their Diamond Dust as my favorite from their core line. Their specialty releases and collabs are always a hit. Their beers are all uniquely flavored, you can really taste the different elements to their offerings If it's your first time, their flight deals are a great way to try all of their selections. Feel free to ask the staff on recommendations as well. This location has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and very clean. It's the perfect place to grab a drink and take some to-go as well. I cannot say I am a patty melt expert but my patty melt (with bacon added) was, by far, the best patty melt I have ever had in my life. I could almost dream about it. It was an absolute enormous thing, and the patty was juicy and humongous and I loved every cheesy, bacony, meaty bite of it. Bring your snake jaws for this one. The sliders with bacon and cheese were also excellent. The buns were a step above normal buns but they definitely added to the meal. For the beer, I went with a flight of very heavy stouts and barrel-aged brews. I liked them all but the one from the bourbon barrel was magnificent and I also made sure my designated driver took the wheel on the way home. Some of these beers are quite powerful. Inexplicably, my kids love beavers, and so when we were staying in Carlsbad for the night and looking for a place to eat, how could we not visit a place called Belching Beaver? We couldn't not! And so we did. It turns out, Belching Beaver is a very family-friendly brewery, with lots of arcade games, lawn games, and an extremely laid-back atmosphere. I wasn't going to get a beer, but then I saw that the brewery did a collaboration with the Deftones to create an IPA called Phantom Bride. I had to get a pint. Chino Moreno made me do it! It was citrusy and refreshing, and just the thing to enjoy while sitting on the outdoor picnic tables. Belching Beaver offers your average pub food. My kids got chicken tenders and fries, and mac and cheese with fries. I got a poke bowl, which sounds like a risky choice at a brewery, but it was actually really good and fresh! Not too saucy, either. We also got the carne asada 980 Nachos, which are huge and come on a baking sheet. Plenty enough to share! This place is tucked away in what looks like an office plaza. I'm learning that a lot of breweries in this area are posted up in situations like this. Here, you can get up to five different beers in one flight although you don't have to get all five. I tried one lighter one (2 AM Tacos--Mexican lager) and it was refreshing and delicious. I also tried four heavier, more alcoholic ones: Black's Peach (sour ale--it was sour indeed), Drink This or the Bees Die (Golden Honey--not bad), Sasquack (Belgian--very good), and St. Alfonsos (Imperial Stout at 12.8 ABV--this one was absolutely outstanding but better have a designated driver with you). This place is kid friendly and definitely dog friendly. In fact, there were probably more dogs than humans during our visit and I'm not complaining. Dogs are better than people, as we know. This was on a Friday night and the place was absolutely slammed, which was nice to see. No food available but you can bring in your own grub. If that's true, it will be a real loss for the community. I absolutely love this venue. The layout of the restaurant, the outdoor gardens, the stonework, landscaping, and overall atmosphere make it one of the most unique brewery destinations in Southern California. Every detail of the property feels thoughtfully designed and creates an experience that goes beyond just food and drinks. We recently attended a baby shower in one of the outdoor event spaces, and it was perfect. The service was outstanding, the food was excellent, the drinks were great, and the staff was incredibly accommodating to our group's needs. They helped make the event memorable for both the parents-to-be and all of the guests. Places like this are hard to replace. Stone Brewing Escondido has always been more than just a brewery it's a destination. It would be incredibly sad to see such a beautiful and iconic location close its doors.
