This has been my favorite bank since I was a teenager--the one that helped me get my first credit card and build my credit score. Nowadays, I use it for investments and other financial moves. It's absolutely worth the hour drive from Albuquerque to work with my favorite member service representative, Stephanie Navarrete, who is one of the most down-to-earth and knowledgeable people at the branch. I've known her for years, and she's always my go-to person whenever I need assistance or financial advice regarding the bank's services. The branch itself reflects rich New Mexican culture and truly represents the community it serves. The restrooms are conveniently located on-site, and there's even a play area for children, which makes it family-friendly. All in all, I would highly recommend this establishment. read more

DO NOT open a bank account with GCU I've had countless problems but the recent has been the worst experience I've ever had with a bank a fraudulent charge that took place in New York for almost $1,000 wasn't flagged and I had to dispute it which it's been almost 3 weeks and I have yet to hear anything about the charge or getting my money back, I had recently moved out of state and asked them to ship me my card gave them my new address and everything and requested that be the address on my account turns out they disregarded everything I said and 2 weeks later I can't access my account because of the missing card that they sent to a random address and wouldn't tell me where since it was "confidential" even though it was my card attached to my bank account with access to all my money... they tell me I need to come in person to a branch which I explain once again I live out of the state I proceeded to ask if I can verify a family member on my account to have them go in person so they could get a new card and just overnight it and they say no Beacuse they can't verify it's me after I answered my 4 security question, gave them my social security number, birthday, and address and then hung up on me.. I had called back multiple times which I was told id need to come in person and I had to point out even if I had the time to do that I couldn't purchase a plane ticket there Beacuse they locked my account and was basically told that they'd put in a request for me to speak to a manager and hopefully get back to me WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!! read more

The worst customer service, of any bank in United States. They will not call you back or respond any emails. You cannot go inside and see somebody other than the teller who can't answer any questions or do anything helpful. read more

If I could give them a minus star. I would. This bank needs to be looked into and investigated. They control everything. Debit cards never work. They lock debit cards without informing you. I had a business trip, so I unlocked it at the SF branch for out of town use but it declined every transaction! I now have to pay interest on my credit cards because of this. All tellers and managers in the Santa Fe NM branches are all RUDE and say hurtful things and just get away with it. I've even complained to their CEO Tanya Romero-Sturgeon! Nothing has been done! I worked with Samuel Montoya and he was great. Responded promptly to emails that I sent and gave me information I needed immediately.

What a nightmare. I was directed to the ATM outside, which was broken. Came back inside. Then I tried to pull up my account number but the reception was so bad my request kept timing out. Then my credit union changed names so my old account number was not the same. Could they look it up? No. Left after a wasted half hour. Bad customer service and absolutely useless. read more

I attempted to withdrawal cash to pay a contractor and the bank refused. They had a "limit on withdrawal," despite the fact I had more than enough in my account. read more

Shop around. They put long holds on some deposits, like 30 days. They told me when I got established after a few years my deposits would go through quickly but it's been over three years and I still have to get on the phone and haggle with someone to access my own hard earned money. I had to cash a bigger check at a different bank and deposit cash if I wanted it before 30 days. (To be fair it was back in Nov and while I remember them saying a 30 day hold it's possible it was less) now I'm trying to access funds from an ATM deposit, and it doesn't say those usually have a five business day hold on them. I'm so angry I'm going to check out other credit unions! read more

If your bank/credit union is part of the CO-OP Shared Branch program, then you can conduct your banking business here. Although, I had to ask three different people just to find that out. The lady at the desk right when you walk in pretty much tried to push me off to one of the tellers when I tried to ask about the co-op. I just wanted to verify that I wouldn't be charged a service fee for using their services. She wasn't much help so I asked a guy in an office off to the side if they had an ATM and there is one, but only outside in the drive thru. It was confusing going to the ATM because the sign said public ATM to the right and GCU service to the left. I wasn't sure if the ATM was a part of GCU because if it wasn't there would probably be a service fee. I've been to banks before where they have someone else's ATM on their property because they don't have their own for some reason. I pulled in left and after waiting a few minutes for a teller to get to the window, I asked about the ATM and I asked if it was their ATM and they didn't give me a straight answer. I asked if I would be charged a service fee for using it and they said "probably not". I gave it a try and fortunately, no service fee. I'm always careful about making transactions at different banks because sometimes the fees can be anywhere from $2.50-$5.00 depending on what you need to do. read more

Update: Guadalupe fixed the problem promptly. Still slow service through the drive through. ------------- After being a member since they were land of enchantment Today I will chime in. Tellers are good! Nice and remember you I like that! Service through the drive through with no other cars takes way to long! Just found out that Guadalupe had been allowing transactions in other states for months. They only informed me today. They will cover a limited time even though they did not contact me? 60 days is what they said.. I am due to pay my mortgage this Saturday but with 21 fraudulent charges I cannot. I attempted to use money from my secured credit card to cover it. But they made the process seem long and drawn out to pull it. Had to do additional paperwork and wait for 2 days for the money to be released.+ they could not get me my own money for a couple days. There solution to the problem I feel that they put me in was to take out a loan...Really a loan. To cover the $ that my bank did not watch over? 21 charges to my account. Cannot get my own money in time to pay my bills. Lost an additional 2 hours work to go over the fraud in there bank as they told me too. Blood pressure is through the roof. Let's not mention how many calls up the ladder to voice my dilemma to a managers... I hope my frustration shows! read more

Any shortcomings are made up by the fact that a credit union is not a corrupt Big Bank. I feel good about banking with GCU.

We've been banking here for too long really. The tellers and customer service agents are very kind and professional. The systems they have are horribly slow; we gave up even attempting to bank through the drive through because it is typical to sit for 45 minutes (no, I'm not exaggerating). The online banking is very basic and we have had problems with spontaneous lock-outs. Also, the debit cards they issue often have problems with being processed at several merchants and businesses- the cashiers always ask "is it from Guadalupe?". My husband and I have steady job histories, nice credit scores etc and still could not secure a loan with these people. We ended up getting a better deal anyway by using an online service. (BTW GCU, 2.5 years on the loan, never one late payment, your loss.) I am looking for someplace else to bank because we are ready to purchase a home here. We were genuinely surprised at how impossible it was to get a loan with them, we've never had that problem at any other place we banked. read more

Tellers are very polite and professional. As with all banks, the fees charged for overdrafts quickly run up ruinous bills, particularly since they do not inform you when you have miscalculated your balance and overdrawn. And naturally at high-traffic times of day, the lines at the windows are slow to move. But having said all this, I like this bank more than any I have ever used in Santa Fe. Drive thru is horrible. I have been in line for 40 minutes. I have been a member here for years and with the amount of money people have put into this bank you would think they could upgrade their system to work faster. Extremely frustrating to have to wait that long in a drive thru line and then get trapped and have no choice but to wait. Makes me hate having to use this bank. read more

I wish I could give them 0 stars. They reversed a check that I deposited immediately after I called to find out why they had not made the funds available yet. (Considering the situation, I looked into whether the check could have bounced the day before -- even though it would be extremely unlikely -- and confirmed that that was not the problem.) I was repeatedly told that they didn't know anything and they couldn't do anything, and that a manager would call me back. Nobody ever did. They basically just stole my check and gave me the run around. Absolutely awful. read more
