First time at this location but it was great. I love Guapo's. This time I just sat at the bar with a friend. We went on a Monday night and it wasn't too crowded compared to the other locations such as Rio in Gaithersburg. So I appreciated that we could just chill and not be bombarded with people and loud noise. The service was good. The bar tender was very kind and attentive. He made some suggestions for food and drinks which were good. It seemed as though he wore many hats so he was very busy but he ensure that we were taken care of. The food and drinks were good as well. We ordered a strawberry margarita slushy with a shot of reposado on the side. The slushy was delicious and refreshing. Ordered 2 Cadillac Margaritas which were going to cost more than $50 but they would have been made with Montezuma Tequila. That was an emphatic NO for me. IYKYK. An entire flipping case of Montezuma Tequila doesn't even cost $50. I have champagne taste AND champagne money simply because I live within my means and make sound financial decisions. Spending more than $50 on 2 Cadillac Margaritas made with dive-bar-low-quality tequila is NOT in my budget. Attended an event and had a great time. Service was fast and friendly. I ordered margaritas with Don Julio tequila and they were on the pricey side. My chicken quesadillas were great with perfectly grilled chicken and cheesy. I also ordered a side of chicharrones and they were crispy and meaty. (If you linger longer than two hours, parking is $8) The food is delicious. Our server let me try a few sauces when I was undecided about which one I wanted on my burrito. The flavors. The plating. The decor. It's all great. The place gets noisy. We visited for lunch and had such a great time that we lingered until dinner was being served. No one rushed us out. The coordinator was easy to reach. The food/dessert came out on time and was cooked to expectation. The drinks at the bar were good and we could make special requests without any issues. Parking was easy at the garage behind the restaurant. You can even park in the back of the restaurant to quickly unload supplies. Last night was the first time we ordered via their website and when we went to pick it up, they were very backed up. It was, however Cinco de Mayo so, very understandable about how busy they were. Our order was very delayed and we ended up canceling it; we were disappointed, but the manager was very nice. We needed a quick bite before an event -- this was a little more leisurely than I'd like -- I was getting anxious, so we quickly asked for the bill as soon as our meals came. So I fell in love with this place. Great people with great service. I was going at least once a week. The last few visits since Mother's Day were horrible. They are watering down the queso's. The steak fajitas alone were $28 alone, for something I have gotten at other restaurants for $17 or $18 max. My carnitas fajitas came in a good size portion, with yellow rice and beans, but the flavor was just average. Unfortunately, that was the consensus for the rest of the food we ordered: overpriced Tex Mex. On the plus side, our server was very attentive, making sure our plates were cleared and waters were filled. I visited this establishment for Taco Tuesday. Despite there being no specials. I must say the food here was absolutely delicious and flavorful. The chips and salsa was so good had the table asking for more. The chips were very thin but crunchy with a light dusting of salt. For my entree I ordered the fajita which was very good. It came out sizzling with a thick cut of steak and chicken. The sides weee also very good but the melted butter was the show stopper, "so good". The service was also very good, the waitress was very attentive and the food came out expeditiously. The drinks were also very flavorful but could have been more spirit forward. The chips were nice and crisp and seemed fresh. The one salsa (smooth pureed tomatoes) and the other was a chunky pico de gallo, with bits of onion and tomato. Very good. There were three of us. We each got an entree from the lunch menu (although full menu is offered all day). One had the Burrito Bowl Carnitas ($12.95) - the person asked for no rice, and was given extra beans, which was nice. One had the Tacos al Carbon with Chicken ($20.95), with three tacos - the person took one home. I had the Burrito Bowl Shrimp ($16.95) - the shrimp were small and coated with an orange coating - not sure what it was, but the shrimp were properly cooked and tasty. I enjoyed the bowl. The service was great. It was a hot day and the wait staff came around several times to refill water glasses (they put a pitcher on the table, but still came over from time to time to refill our glasses when they were getting low). I spent almost $80 for a fajita platter and rib eye steak platter. The fajita platter was 3 strips of tough, overcooked steak and 3 strips of dry chicken breast on a heap of onions for $27. The steak platter was worse. I opted for the rib eye which was $9 more than the NY Strip and was badly undercooked (I ordered medium and it was extra rare) and almost 1/3 inedible fat and gristle with 3 pieces of fried yucca the size of French fries and a couple spoonfuls of black beans and rice for $39. The only reason I didn't go back to complain is that because of the line outside the door on a Friday night would have wasted another 40+ minutes of my time in the car and waiting to speak to a manager. Guapo's used to be good and I had decent meals there years previously. This was more than just a bad outing. It was a pure waste of money that I'll never make the mistake of doing again.
