Time for a new pair of walking shoes I returned a pair I bought before Christmas after wearing them for about a hour around the house. My feet have become very particular in the last year. We were told for one of the best selections in town go to Guarantee Shoe Downton. The store has been in its downtown location since 1953. We lucked out with our parking right in front. We were greeted by Sally as we entered. I told her my sore feet story and what I was looking for Sally brought out 4 different brands and explained each brands strong points. I tried on all of them, Sally was great no rush she knows her shoes. I decided on a pair of all black HOKA Clifton's. A good quality shoe costs more these days but I deserve it. I liked some shoes that were on the 1/2 off area of the store. They were marked down from 130.00 to 79.00. I assumed that the 1/2 Off was off the 130.00; because 1/2 off of 140 is not 79.00. So when I went to pay the guy tells me it was 65.00 so I was getting a better deal because it was less than 79.00. when I explained that his math was incorrect and explained what I assumed. He insisted I was mistaken and that I was getting a better deal. It's insulting and I felt like it was just a way to hook the buyer. I was disappointed; it has good quality shoes. Very disappointed in their return shoe policy. Bought a $150-$180 pair of SAS shoes for my elderly nana. She wore them once. In perfect condition. They would not return them because they were purchased in September 2020. Understandable but wouldn't even let me exchange them for a different shoe as she can't wear the ones she bought because of her deformed feet. So now an expensive pair of shoes down the drain. I have wide flat feet and my left foot is flatter and wider than my right foot (also flat but doesn't need any special insoles like my left one needs) due to my foot issues I go nowhere else for footwear because I can't use any shoes they offer at the mall like Nikes and the like. Frankie Lopez. Go see this guy. He cares enough to take the time to truly fit you to the right shoe. I knew my size. He asked and I told him. He then took me to a machine that measures your feet and how you stand on them, looking for pressure points. It was an interesting experience. After getting the measurement and telling him what I was after, he went to he stock room and emerged with a couple options to try. First one was a little tight on the toes, but the second was a perfect fit. I walked out with a pair of Florsheim Midtown Cap Oxfords in black. Hey we're reasonably priced at $110 plus tax. My grandfather and I went to get a pair of shoes to fit his new orthopedic brace. Initially we spoke with a female employee who was more than happy to help us. Not more than two seconds into asking us what we were looking for, she was interrupted by another employee (Tom), who told us the history of orthopedics and how everything we were doing was wrong. Regardless of what a licensed and trained orthotist had already explained to us, we were told that it was all wrong. My grandmother called the orthopedics office to explain the situation and was told to buy a shoe that would normally fit him and they would adjust the brace to fit it. We tried once more to get a shoe for him but were again stopped by the associate and told that what we were doing was incorrect. He went on to explain how after decades of doing this he was an expert at fitting shoes to braces and vice versa, and that if we decided to continue forward against his advice, it would never work. At this point I assumed that he didn't want to sell us shoes and was ready to leave. We ended up getting the orthotist on the phone once again and had him speak directly with the grand master of all shoe knowledge (Tom). After a lengthy discussion and several exhausting minutes of argument, Tom handed the phone back to me and explained that even though he was one hundred percent correct in his knowledge of all things braces, we would do things the way the orthotist wanted and whatever happens happens. I was ready to leave and place a lifetime ban on patronizing this establishment, but my grandfather found a pair of shoes he really liked and we ended up purchasing them. I regret the entire experience and hope that in the future Tom will refrain from vomiting his wealth of knowledge on the general public until he knows the full scope of what he's dealing with. One star is a generous rating and was only chosen because a negative rating is not yet an option. read more

The prices at Guarantee Shoe Center are competitive for the lines that they carry. You can often even find sales, especially on weekends, and those can save you a few dollars more. I had some major foot pain for a while and decided that my cheaper shoes weren't cutting it for me any more. I invested in some Clark's based on the salesperson's recommendations and I am quite happy with the shoes I purchased. Bonus for me was that the Clark's were half-off that weekend! The staff is very nice. They will listen to what your needs are and then help direct you to the shoes that will work best for you. The selection isn't huge, but it's a good variety. Plus, the lady who waited on us the last time says the owner picks brands he thinks the customers will like. We bought these beautiful boots that were apparently a small brand out of Europe that you probably couldn't find anywhere else. And, as far as boots are concerned they were reasonably priced too! It only takes about 2 minutes inside for the nostalgia to start activating, the one that wishes things were a little slower than they are now, and people had time to spend with you and inform you when making shoe purchases. Amazon is my usual go to, but I went here looking for authentic Birkenstocks,( I bought some on amazon a year ago, I was pretty sure we're knock offs, and I didn't want to make that mistake again) and found them. Thank you to guarantee shoe center and the sales person (I think his name was Steve) for helping me decide the style, color and correct size (another thing I got wrong buying online, which actually partly led to the demise of them quickly) He didn't hesitate about bringing out many sizes, styles and colors for me to try on. As I get older, my feet get more and more important, which means the shoes that I wear get more and more expensive, I want to make sure I'm making the right choices, and this place is full of those secret, awesome quality shoe brands you didn't know existed. I even bought another pair of sandals, a brand I had never heard of (oofos) because when I put them on, I my feet and arches felt supported and like they were on cloud 9! They have a great assortment of first class shoes including Uggs and Clark boots. The store was full of people but they have lots of salespeople so you don't have to wait to get help.
