The service was nice, we did buy a pair of boots. However, we basically were stolen from. Frankie the sales associate told us "if you get these boots I'll give you another little discount and I'll hook you up with some socks" and we said awesome thank you. We bought the boots and we thought wow two pairs of socks for free what a great place. Until we saw the receipt. He charged us $25 for the socks that we didn't even ask for!! That's ridiculous. Took the socks back. And the money won't be back into our account for a few days he said. I can't believe he offered us socks and then charged us for two. That's crazy. To be honest Guarantee Shoe Center is by far the best customer service I've ever had with shoe purchasing. I bought a pair of shoes that I thought would be a good. Unfortunately the shoes only a week after I purchased them my feet were so sore I could not stand the shoes. I thought it perhaps was a break in period. I brought them back into Guarantee Shoe Center. Not only did I find I was wearing a shoe size too small I found that my foot went from a wide to a normal width. They fully credited me back the original pair and put me into a pair of SAS. My feet feel like they are walking on pillows. Good job read more

I visited this store yesterday to look for and purchase a pair of nice dress shoes for an upcoming wedding. I decided to check this place out based on #1, the overall Yelp reviews I'd read, and #2, prior purchases I'd made many years ago, which overall were pleasant experiences. It's quite a ways from where I live, but I have size 14 narrow feet and Guarantee advertises a wide selection in most sizes. After making my way past the group of homeless folks congregating right in front of the store, I was promptly greeted by one of the sales clerks. I told him what I was looking for as to style, color, and size, and what the occasion was. He went to find me some samples and a couple minutes later returned to the showroom with an armload of shoe boxes which he basically just nonchalantly dropped on the floor in front of me. Only one of the shoe samples even came close to "fitting the bill" as to what I thought I'd communicated to the clerk. I tried them on and when I commented how snug they felt, he told me they were actually size 13. I indicated that I wasn't interested in spending $135.00 on the wrong size shoes, so the clerk flipped me to another salesman to try and sell me something that I didn't want. Sort of what happens when you go shop for a car. Annoying. At any rate, they had approximately zero shoes in the style or size that I needed. There was a half-hearted offer to order me something, but after this uninspiring visit, I said "no thanks" and left. I won't be back either. read more

Just bought the most expensive shoes I have ever owned from Bakersfield's oldest shoe store, and in my opinion it is also the best. Selection is great, always something on sale, and they will order anything you want by any shoe maker. There is a back story here, as my first job at age 21 was for Guarantee Shoe Center, over 55 years ago. It was only to be a two week job, but the saleman "Jewlie" did not heal from an operation as fast as they thought. So I ended up with over a month, gathering people skills, The time with this family owned business taught me the it is true that " The Customer is Always Right." and that women sure do like to "try" on shoes. This place was the only place in town that carried the specific model number work boot I prefer to wear and I had originally bought my first two pairs here without shopping around since I liked the boot so well. That's the reason they get the first star. It appeared that They have a good selection of quality shoes. Star number two. When you walk in, it's kinda like walking onto a car sales lot. The sales persons are there to help u immediately, which is good, but seem over eager to sale you a pair rather than wanting to help you. Enter my sales person Evelyn, an older lady who was eager to escort me to my boot section and introduce herself with a forced and insincere smile. I told her I loved the boot and was so glad they still have it. I told her my exact size, 10 EW and she was off. I waited with my two year old daughter a few minutes and Evelyn had a couple boxes and asked if I saw any other boots I liked. No, this is the boot for me. With that she have me the first boot size 10.5 ew. I said no bueno and she said"it's just a quarter inch difference". Size matters to most other women, and in this case, my foot wasn't happy either. Then, she gives me a 10 m. I tried it on but I need a 10 wide. I asked her when she will be getting other sizes in and she said" whenever they come in". Then she began hovering over me to give her back the boot. I then asked if she knew of anyone else in town who sold the brand wolverine and she grabbed the boot, began walking away with her back to me and snively said NO, I don't. Exit the lovely Evelyn without a goodbye, or single other acknowledgment of my or my daughters existence since I wouldn't buy a pair of boots that were not my size or another pair I wasn't interested in. I thought it was just the lovely Evelyn, but I told my wife the story and she said the same type of thing happened to her with a make sales man who got offended when she asked if they knew of any other place selling a brand of nursing shoes. I looked all over town with no luck on the exact model, but boot barn carried the brand with a lovely authentic kind sales lady as well as Emporium and Work World with very nice helpful staff, even after I didn't buy wrong sized boots. I'm all for supporting out local stores, but this place is bad news. To top it off, these crooks were selling the boot for 198.00 which I thought was fair, and I found it online at multiple retailers for 129.00. That's a $70 for snobby insincere help. Please go to Boot Barn, Emporium or Work World. I "Guarantee" this is both the most expensive place and the employees at those other locations are in check and treat customers well. read more

I was taken back the other week when my sister and I took our Father to get shoes - and he refused to get out of the car (he has pre-dementia, cognitive issues). I am a woman in my 70's and am still very active. I walk 2 miles most days plus I needed to buy comfortable walking shoes and sandals for an upcoming trip to Italy. The older I get, the more difficult it is to purchase shoes that are comfortable. I have a bunion on one foot and tend to pronate on that foot as well, which are just 2 of the reasons buying shoes is a difficult proposition. Today I found both types of shoes I was looking for and Maria was the salesperson who helped me. She listened carefully to what I needed, and what my issues were, then began suggesting shoes that might work for me. I have purchased shoes here before and have always found their staff knowledgeable about the characteristics of the shoes they carry. Maria was no exception. She even browsed the sale racks and both of the shoes I purchased were on sale. I would have gladly paid full price, but this was a bonus! In most shoe stores today, you're kind of on your own.
