Joe was 2-3 hours late for every appointment we had scheduled. I'd call him and he would lie and say he's 30 minutes away and finally show up 3 hours later. I couldn't get any of the reports until I harassed him for weeks. I disputed a charge for one of them because a full month had almost passed and literally the same day he texts me and says "hey I have that report for you." He never followed up btw because all he cares about is ripping you off. He preyed on my vulnerability from being sick and stressed out taking more samples than he needed to charge me as much as he could. He told me to throw away all of my belongings including a $4,000 TV that when tested by another company had no damage. I will never work with this company again. My wife and I bought a house built in the 1950s, which led to concerns about the presence of asbestos. Within the house, we had some hints that it could be present and even exposed to us: naked insulation in the closet, weirdly-cut insulation around the water heater with exposed "fibers", popcorn ceiling in one of the bedrooms... We barely moved into the house of our dreams, and we're already getting scared of doing anything. On top of it, as an asthma guy, this is an additional concern. After some (long) research, I reached out to Joe through Yelp at 9pm, and he immediately answered to schedule a call for the next day. During the call, Joe was not trying to sell anything, actually quite the opposite. He explained that asbestos is very common for this type of house, we shouldn't worry about it, and he wants to make sure we are testing only if needed because of suspected exposure or if we want to make some renovations. Joe came and simply asked for a tour to see the areas of concerns. We discussed and he quickly tried to figure out if testing was a good idea or not, and how to be efficient, like with the different types of walls in the house. He was very knowledgeable, explaining along the way what could be an issue or not. He is very passionate about making a difference, and went the extra mile by identifying mold growing within the garage wall, and giving us a game plan to avoid it. His asbestos sampling method was professional, thorough and very clean. He used water to avoid fibers from getting released in the air when sampling, and a HEPA vacuum to capture any potential fibers that could have been released during sampling (which, by the way, can go terribly wrong if you're doing it yourself with home kits). TL;DR: It's not easy to inspect a very old house that is currently being occupied, so we really gave Joe a hard project (old roof about 20+ years old, wood damage throughout due to termites, mold, outdated electrical panel, structural issues not up to code, etc.). Orange County CA: We had mold in our kitchen due to a Costco refrigerator installation that busted the ice maker waterline. Our Insurance hired a mold abatement company ServePro and the mold clearance testing company AEG that declared the area mold free, but mold was still visibly present and the containment area smelled extremely musty.
