The chicken patty was also good, has more spice that's for sure but tolerable. The customer service is friendly, as we ate our food they brought over some water. I really wanted to give a 5 star review but this was not a hit but more of a miss. Drove 30 mins to this restaurant in the rain because I felt for some Jamaican food. However I was disappointed when I got home and started eating. First off, it's a nice set up inside, not a lot of seating but it's good, some side chairs and also some high chairs and tables. Service was great, friendly staff. I ordered curry goat white rice and plantains, didn't want the steam veg because not all restaurants do it right. I was still offered the steam cabbage on the side with server asking me what was their name and responding "it's great that's why they are called "gud food kitchen" I also got some beef patties which I had there while waiting, they were not bad. My husband got oxtail with rice and peas. When we got home and started eating I was disappointed. Curry goat was just spicy not much more flavor and the oxtail was tasting like a lot of sugar was added wasn't authentic, also no beans in Jamaican oxtail? It needed more seasoning to me. Plantains and rice were good that's all I really enjoyed. Cabbage was not done properly as it was lacking flavor and very chewy. I also didn't like that I couldn't get fried chicken, which was only done if we wanted them to cater. If I do go back it'll have to be some drastic recipe adjustments. Decided to stop for lunch after noticing this place driving through the plaza. I ordered a small Jerk Chicken it came with 2 sides so I went with Rice and Peas along with Mac and Cheese. The portions were quite large. I also ordered a Beef Patty as I wanted a true sampling of some of what they offered. The food was amazing, chicken was cooked perfectly with great flavor but not overly spicy the sides were very good. I will next time however select the plantains over the Mac and Cheese as it was a bit too filling for lunch. The Beef patty was also very delicious the crust was soft and the filling seasoned nicely. Me and my wife ate here for the first time today. I had the oxtail and jerk shrimp Rasta pasta. She had the cocoanut curry shrimp, cabbage and rice & peas. The amount of food for the price was a good match. The curry sauce was some of the best I've tasted and the cabbage was better than most jerk restaurants. When I was searching for a place to eat I was wanting Oxtail and it was the reason for my visit to Gud Food Kitchen. The serving portion is pretty good and will fill your starving belly. Was kind of iffy because the prices were much cheaper than other Jamaican places I've tried. The place I tried in cypress last year was super expensive. $37 or so for an oxtail plate but Gud was $24.99 and the curry chicken was only $12.99. The food was awesome here. Nothing was overly salty of too overwhelming. Need to come back to try the jerk chicken and curry goat for sure. Going to be one of my new go to's but only maybe once every few months, can't be eating this hearty food consistently. I found this place today and was excited to try them out being a lover of Jamaican cuisine. The food was good enough that I would have been willing to return and try different menu items. The issue I had was that when ordering I specifically asked about the cuts of chicken and if I could have all thighs in my plate. The person taking my order briefly hesitated but then said they would give it to me. Once I got home and opened the box i discovered that they had not given me what I asked for and that I had been given legs that had been cut to resemble thighs. I visited on their opening weekend and was highly impressed with the friendly service, the quality and proportion of the food, reasonably priced menu items and true Jamaican vibes.
