I've visited a few times since writing my first review and I hate to say it, but I've been disappointed every time. They are always, and I mean always out of something. I asked for a chicken roti, they were out, and out of any roti for that matter. My husband wanted curry goat, they were out of goat. I ended up getting a beef patty and jerk wings which were too tough, I could hardly chew them. I also ordered some Collard greens which were just okay. I overheard a phone order that they were processing where the person asked for red snapper fish, they were out of that. The only fish they had available was salmon. But if you take a look at their extensive menu you would see they offer many different types of fish. And lastly, we arrived at the rice and peas (which my husband calls them being stingy on the serving size). The amount of rice given is the smallest serving size of rice and peas I've ever seen served in a Caribbean restaurant. It's not nearly enough to go alongside the rest of the food. Be prepared if you order to go, you'll probably need to order a side of rice in addition to what they give you. Lucian's Caribbean Grill was the first Caribbean restaurant I've ever dined at. Lucian's is located in a small parking lot. but they're not particularly busy during lunch. It's much more spacious inside. Lucian's staff seem kind and hospitable, but communication among staff to the customers was lacking. Their menu doesn't just contain Jerky chicken and shrimp, they also have meat patties, Jerk burgers, chicken sandwiches, curry, wings, coco bread, pasta, fried chicken, fish dishes, curried potatoes, fried plantains, rice and beans, and other chicken dishes. They only serve one kind of soup, Red Pepper. Lucian's also serves oxtail and goat, but I personally REFUSE to devour that kind of livestock! The menu has affordable prices. Lucian's are sports fanatics, noted by their collection of flags and their TVs only shows sports. Yes, they also offer champagne and spiked sodas for those of you who drink (NOT me). They have a small stage inside for live music performances! Our food was excellent, but they were out of a lot dishes that day, and it wasn't busy at all! The staff accidentally overcharged my friend's order, so she had to go the front desk to straighten things out. Lucian's has been on my list for a while and I finally tried it out today. I love all the premier league football flags on the wall and also the Houston hbcu banners including my alma mater, TSU. The dining area is pretty spacious and on New Year's eve there were just a few other guests also dining there. A few others came in grabbed to go orders and left. The women's bathroom was spotless. I forgot to get our servers name but she was great and it didn't take too long for us to get our food besides the patties being made fresh to order. The beef, chicken and spinach patties were all fresh, flaky, crispy, and well seasoned with the perfect amount of spice. I had brown stew chicken with rice/peas, cabbage/carrots and plantains and my niece had jerk chicken with white rice, plantains and greens. All the food was good except I felt they skimped on my chicken portion a little and my chicken could've used a little more spice. It was cooked perfectly though, very tender and even though the portion was smaller than I'm used to it was just the right amount for me to eat during lunch, just not enough to take home for later like I'm used to doing at other Caribbean spots. Craving jerk chicken!!! The owners are our neighbors and we've been meaning to come check it out. Service is awesome! Miguel was an amazing host! He explained the menu and options. I advised him of my food allergies (which suck) and he advised the kitchen. That always makes me feel better. The vibe is so chill and very Caribbean! I personally love it! On first and third Saturday's they host a Caribbean night with a band. So FUN!!!! I mean, who wouldn't want to feel like they were in the Caribbean for a few hours?! The food is to die for! I ordered the JP Jerk Burger with fries and paid $14.07 after tax with no tip. The experience was very disappointing. The burger had almost no flavor at all. For something advertised as a jerk-seasoned burger, I expected strong seasoning and taste, but the patty was bland and dry. It honestly tasted like plain ground beef with barely any seasoning. The fries portion was extremely small, just a small handful in the container. For a meal that costs over fourteen dollars, the portion size felt unacceptable. The burger also did not look like the photos online. The bun was squished, the toppings were minimal, and the overall burger looked rushed and poorly assembled. At this point, I would like my money back, but I don't feel like driving all the way back just to deal with it. First time in. We had the oxtails, greens, and rice and peas. The meat was fall off the bone tender and extremely flavorful. Not spicy hot but well seasoned. The greens are fantastic and full of flavor. Also tried the Island fish sandwich with a huge piece of fish, mango salsa, and on more of a Hawaiian type bun. Special shout to Miguel for the attentive service and excellent food recommendation! I had chatted with Miguel on another occasion when I stopped by for some sea moss gel, which I purchased and liked (mango), so he is consistently nice and helpful. Why 4 stars? Because I've waited a long time to try this place and really enjoyed it. --- --- --- I discovered Lucian's a while ago through a local top's on Yelp list and was excited to try it during a future visit to see family in the area. Unfortunately, I had to place a to-go order instead of dining in, but I ordered a bunch of different things in an effort to try as much of the menu as possible. The Oxtails were very solid. There was a place in Florida where the Oxtail was so amazing that it ruined all other Oxtail for me, but this was not a bad rendition. 4-stars. I also ordered the Curry Chicken, but didn't love it, to be honest. It was fine, but not something I'd need to order again. 3-stars. As for the sides: -Macaroni Pie: 5-stars. Some of the best mac-n-cheese I've ever had! -Fried Plaintains: 5-stars. While just about every fried plantain I've ever had tastes the same, I am never mad on a day where I eat fried plantains :) -Coco Bread: 5-stars. I don't know what's in this bread, but I loved it. LOVED it. Rice and Peas: 3.5-stars. This was fine. Standard side dish fare. While it wasn't my dish, my dad had the burger and raved about it. He's a simple man that doesn't try a lot of new things, and he rarely praises food in the way that he did this burger. Went here on a Sunday after church with the familia. A friend had told us about this place and we decided to give it a try. I can't remember the last time I've had Caribbean food (if I ever have), so it was out of my normal culinary range. The experience turned out to be really good and I'm glad we all gave it a try! Our server was very helpful as she explained several food options to us and gave us a couple of recommendations. The atmosphere is casual and clean- there are some TVs, sports banners and a small stage at the back where it looks like they have some live music performances. The interior of the restaurant is actually more spacious than it looks from the outside, although the ceiling is kind of short so it doesn't feel like it's as 'spacious' as it could be. Parking lot is a little limited as it shares this space with some other establishments. The food was delicious! I'm not sure what my expectations were except for maybe jerk chicken, but the plates definitely exceeded them. I had the beef roti and we also ordered a chicken roti and some plantains. The rotis are HUGE - they are similar to a burrito wrap (made of Dahl poori) but have curried potatoes and your choice of filling - and they are tasty! The meats, potatoes and Dahl poori make a wonderful combination that isn't greasy, is savory and after a while is quite filling. There is a case to be made that a sauce might benefit chowing down on one of these, as it all can start to get dry with as much size as it packs; but that could be personal preference. The fried plantains were also very good - sweet, soft and a little savory, too. We loved their mint lemonades that they had on the menu - very refreshing. Overall, a great discovery, and we were rewarded for going out of our comfort zone. We will make time to come back here and try out some more of their lunch items. read more

What a lovely spot for Caribbean food! My coworkers and I came in on a Tuesday for lunch and the inside was spacious with plenty of tables. I got the curry chicken, my friends got the jerk chicken, rasta pasta and the spicy beef Jamaican patties. I loved how the chicken fell right off the bone- the meat was juicy and tender. I wish the curry flavor was a little stronger but it was delicious nonetheless. For the sides, I got rice and peas (it's not green peas- it's Jamaican rice which is a bit different as you can see in the picture), cabbage salad and fried plantains. I appreciated how the plantains were sweet with that slight crunch on the outside. Many restaurants I've been to prior had fried plantains that are soft but not Lucian's! My coworkers enjoyed their jerk chicken and pasta as well. As for the beef patties, the pastry was buttery and flaky but I personally wasn't a fan of the beef's soft/mushy texture. Flavor-wise though, it was delicious! Overall, the food here is really comforting and I hope whoever is reading this gets to try this spot! On top of the great food, the service here is fantastic! Seat yourself in a no frills dining room. Staff seemed a little over their heads with multiple tables at the time which was a little concerning, and our service was a bit slow and inattentive too. My friend got the wrong burger order but it had been long enough to get the food that we just dealt with it. The passion fruit juice was yummy, as were the greens and the guava bbq sauce served with my jerk pork. Unfortunately the pork was pretty dry but the flavor was good. Great fried plantains. I've been to Lucian's twice. Coming from a family of Jamaicans, I was very excited to try some Caribbean food in the area. The first time was in the summer of 2023. I dined in and ordered oxtail with plantains, rice and peas, and vegetables. The oxtail didn't taste fresh and overall, was very disappointing. Even the sides were very unappealing overall. I would give this first visit 2.5 stars because I was hoping they potentially just didn't do oxtail well. I tried Lucian's again within the past year to give a second chance and decided to play it safe with jerk chicken. Sadly, this was even worse than the oxtail. The chicken was extremely dry, the spice wasn't there, and the flavor was very bland. The staff were all very kind and the restaurant was nice, but I can't get past my complete dislike of the food. read more

Amazing food. Authentic ambiance. They use paper plates and plastic tableware. I don't love this, but it honestly feels like someone has invited you into their living room. I ate there for lunch a few months ago and had the patties which are like big flavorful empanadas. Delicious! Try the goat! I ordered the chicken patty and the jerk chicken. For my sides, I had rice & peas, cabbage, and plantains. I like that they allow you to choose 3 sides and there are a variety of sides to choose from. Overall, I was very happy with my meal. Everything on the plate was good. The jerk chicken was very tender and not dry at all, compared to some other places that I've tried l i will say the sauce that was on the chicken was a bit different and I wasn't too crazy about it. Great, neighborhood, mom-and-pop kind of place. Service was very attentive, prompt, and pleasant. Portions are generous. The creole pasta was so delicious and fresh I may never order another dish from there again. JK, of course I will, but I'll have to think hard about it. I also like that they show the Premier League football (soccer) matches on their screens, so it's a good place to have a bite while watching the matches with friends.
