On this particular visit, I got the jerk shrimp, very spicy but delicious. My dad got the goat curry and he really liked it. The cabbage/vegetables are always seasoned so well. Came here craving curry chicken and it didn't disappoint. There is ample seating when you walk in, the place was empty for us. We ordered at the register using ( Inkind ) iykyk. I ordered the curry chicken with plantain & rice. My niece ordered the oxtails with rice & peas. The meal came out to almost $50 for two including the soda. Drawn here because of its partnership with inKind, I was extremely disappointed when the app encountered some issues, so I wasn't able to use my points to pay for my order. The woman taking my order (sorry, I didn't catch her name) was gracious about changing my order after we realized the inKind app wasn't working. I opted for the jerk chicken, plaintains, and (Caribbean) potato salad, which was a first for me! The woman let me know ahead of time that the potato salad had a pink coloring due to the beets used in it; I'm glad she told me, atherwise the color would've taken my by surprise. I could barely taste the beets, but the relish and mayo were great combos. Great food and generous portions! I got the goat curry, and not only was it tender and flavorful, but there was a ton of food on the plate. It came with rice and steamed vegetables and was absolutely delicious. I was able to split this plate into 3 different meals, so you really get a bang for your buck here. The staff was also really friendly, and the service was fast. My only note is about the parking situation. There is a very limited lot in the back of the building, and because the strip has multiple businesses, a spot can be hard to get. It definitely helped us narrow down our decision and expose us to new flavors. We ordered the curry chicken and brown stew snapper. Their curry is honestly some of the best I've ever tried from any cuisine. Nice kick and incredible flavor and spices. I cleaned my plate thoroughly. The rice and veggies were solid. I loved their vibrant potato salad. The brown stew snapper was a tad bit salty and the portion was humongous... But the flavors were great as well. I think the brown stew pairs better with chicken when I tried it as a sample. The snapper was a bit dry in my opinion. I ordered two large curry goats with rice, peas, and cabbage. It was outstanding. The meat was so soft, falling off the bone, and very flavorful. I thought plantains automatically came with the order, but they didn't. You have to order plantains separately. They are $4.95 for 8, and we ended up getting 10. So that was a nice surprise since it's unusual not to get plantains in the meal. But back to the food, everything was so delicious. There were even potatoes in the goat gravy. And, little nibbles of corn on the cob in the cabbage, which also came with broccoli and carrots. The vegetables were so soft and felt good going down. I also ordered some homemade lemonade which was a little on the sweet side but still very, very good. We parked in a small parking lot on the backside of the store. A classic Jamaican spot in the third ward area. I've been going here since I was a little girl and they've been pretty consistent. On majority visits I always get the brown stew chicken with rice and peas and cabbage. The sauce is thick, flavorful and has a subtle sweetness. There are some carrots and potatoes in the stew as well. I love the rice and peas as it's moist and you can taste the coconut as well as the fresh herbs in it. The cabbage is also good, sometimes it can use some salt but the flavor is there. I can never not come here and get a beef patty or chicken patty. I think this is the best Jamaican resturant in houston. And if you look on other places I probably have a review on it but I have only tried ones on doordash. The oxtails have the best depth of flavor I've had in houston. Now they are pricey at about $40 for the entree and I only got 4 pieces. However they were very big and full of meat. They could be a bit more tender but overall very tasty. I think I would be very happy if they gave about 7 pieces. I also got a chicken and beef patty.. the chicken was more my jam than the beef. I wish the beef was a bit more flavorful or spicy. They were very fresh and maybe homemade? I can never tell The plantains were also very good. I haven't tried the carrot cake yet but it looks moist and tasty. This has been a staple in the community since 1997 and always proves a delicious treat. My wife, two daughters and I came together. You order at the register and they will bring the food to your table (open seating). The portions are quite LARGE, so come with an appetite or share. We all had a beef patty to start and almost ordered more. Very flaky crust with a great amount of well seasoned filling. My wife and I shared the Stewed Chicken plate. Comes with Chicken (dark and white meat),rice and beans, and cabbage. My daughters shared the Jerk Chicken that comes with the same sides. Plantains have to be requested as they have a lot wasted as many do not eat it. The chicken on both plates was well seasoned and tender, the rice and beans were moist and delicious, that cabbage (Man!) is the truth. Only my wife makes it better. Me and my wife had a Rum Punch ( comes bottled) . The rum punch is not lacking rum ( just a bit too sweet for me). My oldest had lemonade (bottled as well). She loved it. I truly wish they had the commercially bottled ginger beer (like they have the Ting available for purchase) as their homemade bottle that I purchased was far too sweet, missed the mark with minimal amounts of ginger present. Wow! I've never reviewed Reggae Hut??? I've been coming here maybe once a year for the past 20+ years and always love it! The food is always on point, with a massively filled plate as all Caribbean restaurants do. Excellently flavored as well. The service is good. Order at the counter, sit your arse down and wait for them to cook it up and bring it out. You won't see them again after they bring you the food so if you want/need something else, get up and go ask. The ambiance gives Jamaican diner. They have more tables this year than I'd seen in the past, and the place is never crowded so you can enjoy your dining guests in a pleasant environment without all the loudness you'll get next door at TLH.
