Years ago, I flagged this place to visit when I traveled to Katy, Texas. Today I had an opportunity to stop in and have what felt like a home-cooked meal. The dhalpuri, channa (I requested no potato/aloo) and curry goat were on point! I will definitely be back! Please note that J&D Caribbean Cuisine rebranded to Sorrel by J&D Caribbean. Look for the Sorrel sign.

My husband is from Trinidad, and we wanted to try this place as it was highly recommended to us. It was even better than I expected! The meat was fragrant, and bursting with deep flavors. I could have sat here all day and eaten until i had to be rolled out... We bought a home made hot sauce and we put that s@&t on everything. My mouth is watering just writing this review!

My husband and I have supported this business for as long as they have opened. Davika and her husband are very pleasant, accommodating, and their passion for food and the business shines through. My kids love their aloo pies and doubles. We are fans of all their curries especially their goat and chicken and their pumpkin is to die for. The restaurant is always clean and never too crowded and noisy which makes your meal a good experience to enjoy.

This was my first time trying Trinidadian food, and I was told this is the closest thing you could get to the islands. We got the curry shrimp and the pepper shrimp special, both were so good. Service was kind and quick. I would def recommend this place to anyone wanting to try Trinidadian food!

I was leaving Houston to head home to Austin and couldn't pass up the opportunity to have some of many ethnic cuisines lacking from the Austin area. I've really missed having access to a full Trinidadian restaurant menu. Doubles!!!! Pholourie, aloo pie, bakes...all the little things that make Trini food among the best cuisines can be found here. I got a couple doubles with pepper and tamarind on it. They were good with a proper consistency despite not being able to eat them for two hours (the drive). I also ordered a shrimp roti with pepper and tamarind on it but they forgot to add that roti...smh. It was tasty, good shrimp, but definitely lacking the flavors that I wanted because I never eat roti without at least adding the pepper to it. I also asked about pumpkin but the girl on the phone either didn't hear me or said they didn't have it though when I arrived for pickup, I saw it on the menu. I also ordered a sorrel which was delicious. Passing through the area, I'd detour here again now that I actually realize that they have a Full menu of all my favorite things. I'll also make sure to get confirmation of everything that I want in my order ahead of time as well.

That Young man Matthew is so pleasant. Love the vibe when I go in to get food. My favorite is the aloo pie with a side of channa.

Thank god we found this!…read more After finishing our lunch at Wrap & Roll, we saw this out of the corner of the eye and decided to stop here as the girlfriend was looking for some caribbean snacks. Being from St Croix island in the Virgin Islands, seeing the menu and taking in the smells of this place gave her memories of back home. Of course I was happy to indulge her request as it gave me an opportunity to try some handheld eats. First the beef pattie, pretty big and so savory with the meat melting in your mouth and the dough having a nice texture and crust. And then the saheena; OMG! It was my first time having this lovely pastry which is made of chickpeas, spinach, and caribbean spices. You'll be hooked on this after one bite. Texture was similar to a savory piece of cornbread. Of course I was very happy with this item. The girlfriend ordered a currant roll which had some sweetness to it with a flaky crust. I enjoyed it but not as much as I was scarfing down my beef pattie and saheena. They also serve traditional caribbean eats including jerk chicken, oxtails, bake & saltfish, and roti wraps. We noticed a lot of people place to go orders here and call ahead for pick up. There were several bags of eats waiting as we witnessed people roll in and pick them up while having small talk with the owners. All those items looked delicious and we plan to come back and try those out. We also talked to the owners for a bit, they're a husband/wife team who've owned/operated this place for a while. Super polite and gracious, they helped me navigate the menu and explained what the items would be like when I ordered. Sadly I could not get the Aloo Pie (sold out) but they assured me it's worth having and to come back and try it (which we will). Pearland is lucky to have this place here. Definitely recommend trying it out for yourself!

Gotta admit the spiciness had my tongue tingling & my nose running but it wasn't overpoweringly spicy. Btw. I didn't request spicy, that's just how it came. Cabbage and rice & peas were tasty, standard accompaniments. My hubby got the curry goat and it too was very tasty but what got my attention was how tender the goat was! To me, the goat seemed just a little less spicy so the chicken spice level may be just how they cooked the batch that day. Upon entering, I thought it was just a takeout place because I didn't see any tables or seating. While waiting on my food, I discovered a whole other large room with seating, full bar & stage! So takeout or dine-in is definitely an option. It's a little bit of a drive for me but I would definitely return.
