First time coming here, as soon as I walked in I was greeted by a very lively evening inside this restaurant. Almost full but luckily I made reservations online(make sure you do that). They have a very nice evening ambiance here. People were chatty and socializing. Definitely a great spot to come get a drink, as they have a nice bar area. Tonight, I got a table with my girlfriend. We felt nice and cozy. Started the night off with the asparagus soup which we ordered as an appetizer to share. It was a nice light option before our entrees. For entrees my girlfriend got the strawberry fields salad and I got the short rib. Girlfriend liked the strawberries as they were ripe. Almonds were crunchy and the added chicken had a nice smokey grilled flavor. As for myself, this short rib knocked my socks off. I loved the combination of mashed potato, carrots, mushroom and the short rib. The sauce really pulled the dish altogether. Some of the best, if not, best short rib dish I've ever had. Such a great balance of flavor. And the meat very tender! We ordered some drinks as well to couple with our delicious meal. I had The Optimist and my GF ordered the Sunburned Cocktail. She mentioned it had a "little heat" to it and you'll feel the cayene in your throat. She did enjoy the drink. My drink tasted like a nice fresh mix of grapefruit and orange, with the hint of the vodka. Also enjoyed my drink. We ordered some truffle fries as well, which were nice and toasty. My husband and I stopped by here after a long day in Marin. Actually, we couldn't just "stop by" because their reservations for a Saturday night were nearly full. My husband made the reservation for a few days in advance and the only time left for two people was 5:15. Excellent service from Antonio, nice guy and fired dishes as we took our time, wow we had a 3 hour dinner. never a rush, enjoyed our mother's day dinner, and Antonio and the staff didn't come back too often to check in, which I thought was very nice for us to continue talking and enjoying ourselves. All the dishes were on par for new american. nothing was bad, maybe I had more truffle flavored fries in the past, but the aioli, romesco, even ketchup lol were good sauces with the fries. Having dined at the Guest House a number of times over previous six years, I can affirm that quality of food served is quite good - not great, but still very good. What troubles me more is that (of late) the size of portions served seems noticeably small. It may have taken me a while to register this apparent change. The Wild King Salmon ($39) filet (quite tasty) appeared to be somewhere between 5-6 oz. A lonely entree sitting on a bed of spicy corn. The was true for two appetizers. Four small Arancini rice balls ($15), and I mean 'small,' and an heirloom tomato salad - two small heirloom tomatoes cut into 6-8 pieces ($15). It just leaves an impression of rather expensive food served in ungenerous portions. Put another way, the quality of the food does not compensate for the diminutive portion size. Would have been 5 stars if they were not out of so many things we ordered. My friend was exited for the blue cheese filet and I was looking forward to the horseradish short ribs. Apparently the menu just changed so they didn't have either. After the disappointing news I ordered the scallops and my friend got a lettuce wrapped burger. The waiter then came back and informed me they were out of scallops too. I ended up with the pork chop along with a few appetizers. We weren't huge fans of the ceaser salad as it was in large pierces not enough dressing and lacked flavor but the truffle fries were great. They have a remsco chile sauce which is one of the best condiments I've ever had. My pork chop was fine considering it was my third pick and my friend enjoyed their burger. Overall it would have been a great experience if they had what we wanted but we will give it another go one day. read more

To his credit, he knew what the word "vegan" meant, and said, "yes, we just put all the vegetables on the plate", and boy, he wasn't kidding: when the plate came out it was just an assortment of root vegetables on a plate, swimming with olive oil. There was a red pepper sauce underneath which made it more appealing, but some beans, some pasta, or something would have made this more of a "dish" and less of an afterthought. It's 2023. My husband and I dined with friends and we had a lovely time, but I know we had a post-mortem review in the car like "meh, wouldn't go back." Stand out dishes include: Green eggs + ham Buccatini - the pasta is very green Stuffed Quail (Special of the Day) - Absolutely wowed by this dish. When digging into the quail, you could see the steam coming off and it smelled absolutely delicious. Pork Chop- subbed the grits for carrots that were perfectly charred. This was HUGE. Definitely a double portion size. Burger and Salmon were also great! Everyone was super happy with their food and compliments to the chef. Next time, we are trying the Arancini! All in all, you can't go wrong ordering anything on menu as each dish is carefully crafted with an insane amount of technique. The kitchen was able to accommodate dietary restrictions and happily made substitutions to create a suitable entree for the diner. My god . . . can I say that? Decent service where I didn't have to keep waving down the staff for extra silverware or more drinks. We were seated within 10 minutes of arrival. I ordered the Canape on potato with avocado sauce, shrimp toast, Sole, Porkchop, and Strawberry Pannacotta. EVERYTING (as a Jamaican would say) WAS SOOOO YUMMY!!! - Canape w/potato + avocado sauce: well seasoned, lightly fried, held together without falling apart through delicate. The avocado cream was so light and airy. It complemented the potato and canape well. - Shrimp toast: Big chunks of shrimp falling off the crunchy toasted piece of (I think French bread) lightly seasoned to perfection and sat in a creamy sauce which again went very well with the shrimp. - Porkchop: so thick and juicy, dripping with flavors from the fat, brown sauce it was sitting in, and the probably oils it was cooked in. A dollop of cooked veggies was tasty as well. Underneath the Porkchop was a nice serving of creamy mash potatoes. - Sole: Nice sized portion of Sole, cooked well, moist. Sat in a creamy type of butter sauce with a kick of lemon. Underneath all that sauce was a bed of creamy mashed potatoes. ON the side a few Brussel sprouts well cooked. - Strawberry Pannacotta: A Piece of what I think HEAVEN might taste like!! This was my first time trying out pannacotta in a long time and my gosh. It wasn't too sweet, I could taste the vanilla bean flavor and see the specks of it, and the gelatin was set to perfection. It wasn't too soft or too firm. The strawberry glaze was a nice addition which again was not too sweet. Perfectly balanced flavors. I can't wait to go back!!!! Everything only cost $150! Just had the most delicious birthday dinner! The service was amazing, everyone on staff was super kind, the food was gorgeously prepared. It looked like art on a plate. The sauces on every dish were pure perfection. Our server was incredible. Even when it became busy, she made sure we were always taken care of, recommended tantalizingly delicious cocktails as well as dessert wines. We went crazy and ordered two desserts. I recommend calling ahead and or looking online as we had a reservation beforehand. My friend ordered the Monday Primetime special which was a great price for what you get: slow-cooked prime-rib, brownie, and an appetizer. It seems like they usually serve the crab cake but they only had soup available that day. The brownie was quite large-- definitely a good amount for one person + ice cream. We ordered the New Orleans Style Shrimp Toast and the Saffron Arancini which were both great! The shrimp toast was soo yummy. The sauce was really good and the waitress brought us more bread to dip in. The saffron arancini were warm, moist, and fluffy all at the same time. I did wish there was more black garlic aolio which was a good addition. I ordered the pork chop which was average. Wasn't amazing-- wished it was sweeter and a bit dry. I did like how they used persimmon ginger chutney, though. I had the Little Red Corvette which tasted soooo great! I would come back here for a date night or a business dinner. Agree with Mark M about service at the bar. The bartender will play favorites with his customers, and have everyone play musical chairs so his favorite (read "rich") clients get the best seats, can sit together, whatever. So impolite and unprofessional. You know the Maya Angelou quote about forgetting what people say, but always remembering how they made you feel? Well, I haven't forgotten how this bartender made me feel, which is why I've never gone back to Guesthouse. Oh, and he made the worst penicillin cocktail that tasted like straight up lemon juice. My husband and I wanted a good meal to celebrate our 5th Anniversary and chose Guesthouse. I am so glad we did. The food was phenomenal. We had the Arancini and Tuna Tartar to start, both were very good for very different reasons and I am glad we decided to get both. The Arancini was warming with "stick to your bones" loveliness and the Tartar was very fresh and light, a good combination. We then tried the Pumpkin soup which was also incredible, a delicious mix of fall flavors. Lastly, we split the pork chop. The acoustics have been improved with sound deadening panels installed in the ceiling. Now it is "normal" noisy. Hint: in general, if noise is an issue - ANYWHERE, assure you are not seated near a table for 6 or LARGER - the diners tend to yell across the table. We did request a quiet table and were seated in the side room - a little better for conversation than the main dining room/bar. Cuisine is "American." We had 2 cocktails, 5 appetizers and 2 entrees, plus desserts. I'd recommend anything BUT the Maitake Mushrooms. Service was spot on. Reservations recommended. My partner asked for the avocado bruschetta and they made the substitution without a charge. We've been to Guest house in Kentfield about 5 times now. Every time we've eaten there it's been wonderful. However, tonight it wasn't what we've come to expect of their quality of cooking. We ordered a prime New York medium rare and pork chop, one of my favorite items. The steak came back medium well and the pork chop was dry. We sent the New York back for a medium rare cook and the pork chop was tolerable but I should have sent it back as well. The pork chop came with grits which were dry and firm. Not how they usually cook it. Wasn't sure if the chief was new or it was an off day but we were disappointed. Guesthouse is definitely the new hotspot in Marin at the moment. Tesla's pulling up into the driveway and beautiful people enjoying a nice dinner out, coupled with a gorgeous bar area perfect for your Pinterest board. Guesthouse checks all the boxes for an optimal Marin night out. But how is the food? Turns out the chef at Guesthouse was a former Picco alum, and Chef Rodger knows how to please a crowd with a menu that features smoked or woodfired meats and veg, and handmade pastas. We had the stacked high crab cake appetizer, some delicious and simple wood fired mushrooms (our personal favorite), and an order of beef and pork parpadelle that was loaded with cheese and meat to the point of feeling more like a lasagne. Service is thoughtful and responsive. Less successful dishes here are the desserts. They are designed to be crowd pleasers, but for us are overly sweet (I know, how is that possible in a dessert, but still, it's true) and lacking in sophistication and subtlety. The flourless chocolate cake drenched in chocolate sauce should be treated better, in my opinion. It ended up tasting like, unfortunately, a giant plate of chocolate sauce. The banana cake was similarly drenched in caramel sauce and overly sweet. In all, a meal at Guesthouse feels like a proper evening out, both foodwise and in the see-and-be-seen department. While dessert is less successful, cocktails are excellent, and enjoyable mains and a beautiful dining room add to the charm. read more

I've gone a couple Monday nights, the first time, there was a delicious fried chicken meal which gave me leftovers for the next day's lunch! The second local's night I visited they had Prime Rib!
