Downtown Larkspur, such an exceptional setting! Good pricing, tolerable elevated bar fare. Had to hold back my dad joke response when the server said: " Hello, my name is Reuben". (After all, I believe they built their reputation on sandwiches.) I had my "go to" as a Vegetarian which is the Impossible Burger (available at Burger King now) with rather bland French fries and my wife had the salmon dish served on a mountain of quinoa. ("Hey quinoa, you can retire your jersey, you had a nice run.") They serve the weekly rotating Fieldwork hazy, so I had one of those, but Fieldwork does a variety of hazy beers and they are kind of known for it. When asked which Fieldwork was being served it is too nuanced to simply reply, " It's a hazy, they all are". The great outdoor seating, and stunning redwood trees are a major draw. ***Please note this review is from quite some time ago, but I've been back several times. I do dig it. You can't ask for a better relaxing scene and when there's a hot sporting event on, you can watch it outside on one of the monitors beneath the redwood trees. We missed out on the outdoor Redwood ambiance that people boast about because it was a cold rainy day. The inside ambiance was okay. Had a bit of sterile smell of cleaning supplies. Food: We thought we ordered artichoke dip, so it was very disappointing when the grilled artichoke came. But that was our mistake! The chili was fine. The fish and chips were pretty solid. I liked that the fish adhered pretty well to the breading. However, the fries and fish were placed on top of soggy coleslaw, so some fries also became soggy. I was told that you have to sit outside and get burgers here, so on a nicer day, I'll try that. read more

The servers are very friendly and professional, and they get all of the basics right. The food tastes extremely fresh and is always cooked just right. Personally, I enjoy sitting indoors, but the outdoor seating is also beautiful on a nice evening. I recommend the Perry's cheese burger with fries! It's a classic and it's one of the best burgers anywhere in Marin! They also have homemade potato chips as an alternative to French fries, which come heavily recommended. Stopped in for lunch and got the Cobb Salad. Good job on the fresh lettuce, but the chicken was just that pre-prepared grilled chicken available frozen from most restaurants suppliers. And there was a ton of it. There was an eight of an avocado instead of a half. It was a bit brown. Several cherry tomatoes that were all good. What a beautiful escape, Perry's on Magnolia in Larkspur. This is our second time coming to this small and quaint downtown area. It's such a fun getaway for us, and we absolutely fell in love with Perry's, the park across the street, and the entire block filled with other vibrant and bustling restaurants, wine bars, coffee, ice cream, and more. How cool of a spot to have outdoor dining and TV's in the trees to enjoy local sports and entertainment. That's the first thing that drew me to this specific Perry's location ~ a dining experience like no other in the heart of nature. Indoor dining is also nice and cozy..I recommend making a reservation because it does seem to fill up with locals. Because it was a bit chilly, we made a reservation to sit indoors and watch the Dubs game. They had a high chair that attached to the table which was fun, and a great kids menu to choose from. The staff was so patient and kind to babies/small kiddos, and looking around as time progressed, it seemed that this spot is the family-friendly place to go. We ordered the Perry's Slyders (comes with 3) and they were SO delicious and filling. Comes with shredduce (shredded lettuce), tomato, mayo, grilled onions, pillowy fresh 'slyder' rolls, and ketchup on the side. I was in heaven! I also loved the NA drink menu, and ordered a tonic from Juice Shop which they served in a cold glass. My husband had a few local to the area brews (Pond Farm, yay!) and we decided after a tough Dubs loss, to go on a walk and hit the park before it got dark. (We had kids meal leftovers, which I can foresee being a great money saver in time, ha) All in all, great local digs and community feel. Wow, what a wonderfully mediocre at best experience. On the plus side, the location is amazing. The setting is serene and amidst redwoods with a creek next to it. How perfect. Unfortunately the food doesn't match by any stretch. I think it's a Marin problem, maybe the standards are lower, but there are just not many good restaurants. It's basically California style pub food, burgers, a few fish dishes. Etc. Everything we ordered as a large table was ok at best. The Reuben was served sloppily with the bread soaked through so it really was just mush. The wings were overfried so the meat on the chicken was tough. The sweet potato fries tasted good but the fryer temp must be low so they soaked up grease and we're mushy instead of crispy. The batter in the fish and chips was thick, doughy and flavorless and one piece was not crispy while the other two were. The slaw was boring and had no flavor as well. Fried chicken was super greasy. Mashed potatoes were so it overly whipped they were smooth like ice cream though they at least had flavor and the gravy was almost beef flavored even though it was a side for the fried chicken. The veggie side for the sole, tasted mushy like it was microwaved to reheat it because it was likely fired to early or worse made ahead then slopped in the plate after reheating. Man, I don't know where these other reviews come from that gave it a five, either their taste buds have retired or they were only reviewing the setting. The service was good and the waitstaff were very nice. If it weren't for the perfect weather this would have been a bomb. Maybe their burgers are good??? I hesitate to go back to find out given it was so Meh. Oh well. They did make a nice Arnold Palmer. read more

This is Walt from Walt's Adventures and I find myself in Larkspur, California at Perry's. This quaint restaurant has both indoor and outdoor dining with heaters. The outdoor area has natural coverage for one dines among the redwoods. I was reminded of when I went camping those years ago. My dining experience easily compensated for any difficulties in travel for I quickly found myself at peace. We started with the potato skins appetizer. The presentation could have been more appealing but it made up for any indifference with its taste. I highly recommend them. Our selections were presented well and overall met with our satisfaction. Four of five for the veggies and the garlic bread, for our tastes, need more seasoning. Been a while since last visit so took family. Moderately busy evening. Our waitress was exceptionally nice and promptly served drinks. Then a 50 minute wait to order mains. Downhill from there. Calamari was soft, tasteless and seemed old, flavorless. Potato skins a better choice. The Magnolia salad was generous and good along with their good house burger as we remembered it. Fish/chips bland with seemingly warmed over limp fries on every plate. Salmon entree disappointing. Onion soup good at first then the cheese became chewy hard and the onions tasted burned. Sadly this once go-to place for reasonable family fare has gone down. And they added a 4% "employee mandate" for it. Hope they improve as its a lovely site. read more

I went here recently for dinner with my friend. Overall I'd give Perry's 3.5 stars. My rating is because I think many of the items are quite overpriced for what you get. Total for my items (2 apps, 1 soup, 2 sides, 1 dessert) came to about $80. I guess that's the Marin county tax. AMBIANCE: Beautiful outdoor seating surrounded by trees and the sound of running water. American diner feel. Sports bar look inside. SERVICE: Service is a bit slower if you sit outside it seems. Our waitress did check in on us a decent amount. FOOD: We got the ahi poke (great), potato skins (delicious), French onion soup (okay), Mac and cheese (skip) and creamed spinach (pretty good). Wanted a good Caesar salad and looked at pictures on DoorDash and it's says "rustic croutons and shaved Parmesan" and pictures looked good. Received a salad that looked like it was poorly premade at Costco maybe 3 days ago. Soft basic croutons from a package and definitely not shaved parmesan. WHEN: Fri @ 8pm FInally came back 2 years later because the first time was weird. Although food was good, service wasn't great and I was turned off. I'm glad I came back because it was a much better experience! I can still talk about the food I ordered from both visits. PARKING: They have their own lot but it's quite small for such a large restaurant. But luckily street parking is free and there's a decent amount. There's plenty of seating both indoors (2 floors) and outdoors, which stretched from one far end of the restaurant to the other. I can't imagine there ever being a wait for a small party to be seated. Both times I thought the hosts seemed unfriendly, or at least indifferent. Like someone who seems like they didn't want to be there. The first time service felt like they just made the "busboy" take orders so it was super odd. The second time was a wonderful young gentleman who was upset helpful and friendly. Here's the food that was had from both visits (dinner): BREADSTICKS & BUTTER - Complimentary This only happened the first visit for some reason. Maybe it was discontinued. CORNBREAD - $7 3 muffins in fact! It was decent, has chives, and went well with my chili. MAC & CHEESE - $8 Baked and topped with breadcrumbs. Felt under cooked since the breadcrumbs pieces were falling off and I expected a darker shade. Regardless it was good enough to me! NEW ENGLAND CLAM CHOWDER - $9 (Bowl) Very decent bowl as it was what to be expected. PERRY'S CHILI - $9 Cheddar, Red & Green Onion. This gorgeous big mug of chili was fully topped and delicious. I really enjoyed this as I was hankering for some chili! TRADITIONAL SPAGHETTI & MEATBALLS - $20 Comes with Grilled Garlic Bread. HOT SWEET DANG this dish is SOLID. I will come back for this comfort, as it was quite enjoyable! Give it a try! IMPOSSIBLE SMASH BURGER - $15 American Cheese, 1000 Island, Pickles. Nice when you don't have to pay extra for cheese in your burger. It comes with fries or salad and I was lucky they were willing to serve it with a side of Cesar salad (so nice!). We just returned to Perry's, second time in a year, this time around 7:15pm on a Thursday! I just reread my previous review, and I found it funny how close our meal was to the last one. My wife again ordered the reuben with sweet potatoe fries, and a cup of tomato bisque. And she loved it again! This time I ordered the fried chicken, string beans, and mashed potatoes, but again with a cup of their clam chowder. The potatoes and gravy were perfect. And the string beans! Cooked to perfection, a touch of crispness, but fully cooked and perfectly seasoned. I really enjoyed the first bites of the chicken but then found it to be a bit saltier than I like. Maybe next time I could ask for them to hold the seasoning a bit. Service was extremely fast, even though the place was packed, and the noise level was pretty high in the main room (even though we were in the corner). I didn't see any empty tables, but our server was always available when we had questions. I'm glad this time we didn't wait as long, and we'll be back! read more

There is ample indoor seating as well for large and small parties. This establishment has classics like petrale sole, spaghetti and meatballs, and my fav, the chicken BLTA sandwich. Perry's made for a very nice post-hike spot for our large group of friends after we completed a loop through some open spaces on the NE side of Mt Tam. Perry's had previously agreed to save us a group of tables outside, and we were thankful they held on to them, despite us being on the tardy side. Ambiance - Swanky, historic cafe/pub nestled in grove of redwoods along a meandering creek; this was in turn is nestled in the chi-chi town of Larkspur. It was dark and a little chilly in late October (when we visited). Thank God for layers and propane heaters! (I'm guessing it's quite nice here in the warmer months). I didn't see much of the inside restaurant, but the bar area was gorgeous (and packed). Food - Everyone enjoyed their meals. I had the impossible smashburger, which was WAY better than I expected - probably the best version of impossible burger I've ever had. Great fries as well. Good beer list here too. I stuck with Pliney the Elder, since it had been a while. And as we found out, Perry's was named after a person, Perry Butler. Our waitress called to him as he was strolling by, and he amiably chatted with a few of us. I got the impression he is mostly retired, but he still checks in at various Perry's locations (Later I discovered that it's a local chain, with the original location in The City). In short, I couldn't have asked for a better spot to share a beer & meal with my friends. And in such a lovely setting. When I mentioned recently to a friend that this is my mother-in-law' and her crowd's favorite restaurant, she nodded knowingly and said senior citizens love all the Perry's restaurants. She didn't mean that in a way that might compare Perry's to, say IHOP or the IKEA cafeteria, but rather to say that Perry's as a restaurant chain consistently provides a somewhat upscale, but relaxed atmosphere for long meals and easy socializing witb friends. The menu is predictable, but reliable. Perry's on Magnolia offers a particularly lovely setting at the old Lark Creek Inn, with dining under the redwoods and a sprawling patio. It is very dog friendly, as well as kid friendly. The first time we went, I had a dry and bland chicken bacon avocado sandwich. The next time, I was much happier with my burger (order medium rare--medium would have been too well done). The fries were really good. The sweet potato fries were okay. The service was friendly and attentive. A good place for spending time in a lovely setting witb friends, but not a destination for the food alone. read more

The best part about this place is the location, particularly how it's nestled between huge redwoods. There's skylights so that you can admire your surroundings while waiting for your food. We told them it was our first time at Perry's on Magnolia so we had our choice of any available table. Our server was really nice. We wanted to try a few dishes so she asked if we were sharing and offered to have the kitchen split our items in half so it's easier for us. This one detail impressed me because it showed that they cared for us to have a good time and making us comfortable wasn't any trouble. The food was standard per the Embarcadero location. This location seemed to take a bit more care as everything was hot and fresh. Calamari was crispy and flavorful. Salads were well-dressed and yummy toppings. The burger was juicy and cooked to our liking. I'd definitely return maybe after a visit to the farmers market or post-hike! read more

As a visitor to Larkspur, CA I am absolutely blown away by how beautiful this area is. Perry's Restaurant is situated amongst a grove of towering Redwood trees. Magnificent. I choose to sit outside next to a babbling stream with the redwoods surrounding me. So beautiful. Oh wait, this is a restaurant review, so I better start talking about the food. I ordered the organic mix green salad with Pine Nuts, cherry tomatoes and champagne vinaigrette. It was perfect and so fresh. I also ordered a cup of chili. The chili was very good, but could've used a little more Seasoning to spice it up just a little bit. It was very mild. Not complaining though because it was excellent. There is a great selection of wines and beers and they have a nice short specialty cocktail list on the menu. Should I ever visit this area again, Perry's will definitely be on my list of places to stop again. read more
