1 Star -- The Beginning of a Horror Movie…read more We stopped here on 8/8 for my bachelorette weekend, and honestly, this felt less like a restaurant and more like the beginning of a horror movie. My girlfriends and I all ordered the French onion soup. The cheese was burnt, there was what looked like an entire soggy slice of bread floating in the cup, and the "caramelized onions" were actually rough-chopped white onions with absolutely no flavor. But bad soup happens, so we tried to overlook it. Then we noticed the dead flies in the windows... and the live ones flying around our table. We spent the meal constantly swatting them away from our food. Then one friend went to the restroom. When she came back, we could literally hear her shoes sticking to the floor with every step -- squish, stick, squish, stick -- all the way back to our table. We came in celebrating my bachelorette weekend expecting a fun night with good food and drinks. Instead, we got burnt soup, soggy bread, flavorless onions, dead flies, live flies, and floors apparently held together by grease and adhesive. If this restaurant were the opening scene of a horror movie, I can already hear the narrator: "They thought they were just stopping for dinner... they were wrong." Management seriously needs to address the cleanliness and sanitation. This wasn't just disappointing -- it was genuinely disgusting. We will not be returning.

Our first B&B experience we didn't know exactly what to expect but we really enjoyed it. Bob, the owner, is just so sweet and we loved his hospitality. He makes you breakfast each morning and makes you feel very welcome and at home. It's a bit old school because we called to make a reservation and Bob just takes your name and number and that's it. No credit card number, no confirmation email... just show up, he's waiting for you! The house itself has so much character, built in the 1830's, we loved looking at all the unique rooms and old- timey decor. Definitely recommend and would visit again! Also would like to add that one of the common complaints that I read on yelp when we were looking for places to stay was that the noise from the highway was too much. Maybe it was our room's location in the house but I'll honestly say that it was barely noticeable and definitely not something that's even worth mentioning.

It was great making acquaintances over those few days; getting to see them in the mornings and compare notes about what we'd seen/done the day before. At the suggestion of the owners, we visited a local civil war museum and battlefield which were truly fascinating. We even made it to Monticello! There were also dead flies in the front window, which could have used a wipe down. We had a 2 queen room and one bad was extremely hard and one was very soft. There were only 3 pillows on each bed so someone only had 1 pillow - not ideal with kids. Two of the towels in the bathroom were nice and 2 were pretty raggedy and thin. The size of the room was fine (only room for 1 small table, no chairs) but there was no additional deadbolt or slide latch on the door and that didn't feel safe, especially after someone tried to put a code into our door at about 11:00 one night. This motel is somewhat cute, cozy and quiet but still seems a bit run down. However, after driving around Luray, I'd venture to say it's the nicest of the roadside motels we saw. It has beautiful views of the Shenandoah's and it's very convenient to town and the park. It wasn't awful but wasn't what we expected. The manager Judy was very nice when she called to confirm our reservation and when I let her know the room smelled smoky. Be aware that not all rooms look like the photo on the website.

They were seated, but told that some items on the menu were no longer available due to the kitchen being partially cleaned up and shut down, understandably.
