    Lunch menu, bar area

I have been to the guesthouse a couple of times, including dinner in their formal dining room, and most recently lunch. Took a friend who is visiting from out of town, he said his burger was great. My fried fish sandwich was just OK, kind of dry and flavorless to be honest. The menu is very limited, few healthy options. Their prices are pretty much what you would find in downtown DC, so on the high end for the area. Everywhere else I have eaten in Lost River is better and less expensive. Our server, a young woman, was great. We were the only ones there for Saturday lunch. After lunch, we went to have a look at the pool and talked with the poolside bartender. My friend asked some questions and said he'd like to come back with friends to stay for a weekend (note, they are only open on weekends.) It looks like a cool place but there's a lot of apparent deferred maintenance. He asked if we could have a look around and the bartender said, feel free, go on into the clubhouse too. We quickly walked through, and out to a balcony at the far end. We didn't touch anything and were probably there for all of the two minutes, if that. No guests around. We saw one of the owners and my friend said, I hope it's OK that we're having a quick look around. The owner said, actually it's not, it's clearly marked that this area is for guests only. We were really taken aback. Even if that's the case, and we did not see those notices until we were leaving, there are about 10 more gracious ways to handle it. It felt quite rude. Are you in the hospitality business? Do you want to run off future customers? As a result, neither one of us will be going back. This is a small community, and it seems the owners have a reputation. When I mentioned it, two different people said someone had organized a party of 16 friends to go to the bar and the restaurant, where they spent thousands of dollars. I think the friends were all staying there, but the one who organized it lives here so was not an overnight guest. When they went upstairs to the lounge after dinner, the owners told the organizer that he needed to leave. Not only that, the poor white pony in the paddock is being neglected. It does not have a companion, although horses are herd animals. It was literally covered with flies. No fly mask, it looked like there was a large lizard on its face but it was flies. Poor pony was just covered with biting flies, face and body. As a long time horse owner, this was so sad to see. It looks like it did not have adequate shade, and that the paddock needs to be mowed. Looks very uncomfortable. Very sad that apparently this pony is used for marketing, so people can take their photo with it, but is not cared for properly.

I have never given a review before, but this place was very special. I don't have enough words....

I wish i took more pictures because these don't do this amazing getaway justice. Took a couple of days of much needed rest and spent time in their suite location which was a 1 bedroom with 1.5 bathrooms, mini kitchen (no stove) but refrigerator and microwave with sink and dishes. They had a sauna, pool, restaurant, bar, entertainment area and more. Only 2.5 hrs from DC, this quiet oasis is well worth the drive. The owners were friendly and the location was very relaxing. Also free WiFi which is needed considering you are in the mountains and very little cell hone signal. Definitely will be returning soon!

My fiancé and I had an incredible second weekend getaway to Guesthouse Lost River! Gary & Jesse immediately remembered us from the moment we began checking in, despite us only visiting once before. We have been missing Guesthouse ever since our first visit in April 2018. A weekend at Guesthouse makes us feel so rejuvenated from the immaculate property to the breathtaking West Virginia scenery. For this visit we stayed in the Hobsdon Cabin on the lower level. Our cabin has a recently remodeled bathroom. The cabin has a shared common area and kitchen. And we had our own separate entrance. The cabin felt very private like we were there alone. We were able to enjoy the pool for this visit which was a great pastime. If you enjoy swimming or laying out by the pool, I'd highly recommend coming later in the year for when the pool is open. The pool is stunning and a great way to socialize with other guests. We can't wait to visit the Guesthouse again and plan on coming at least once a year.

My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at The Guest House in Lost River, WV. We immediately fell in love with the place! It's all so breath-taking, the food is good, and the owners are very welcoming. We plan on visiting, again, this Summer. Go! You'll be glad you did.

We marveled at all the hats Jesse and Gary managed to wear all at once, while still being so attentive to us.

We stumbled upon this permanent roadside market when traveling between central Virginia and…read moreClarksburg, West Virginia -- and while trying to avoid roads that would put us into harm's way given the winter weather advisory for the mountains of WV. Snow of up in 8" in April?! There were a lot of cars in the small parking lot -- which is always a good sign. There was also a sign for a deli which gave us hope that we could pick up a late lunch. Better than that, they had a grill! We ordered a quick lunch -- one bacon cheeseburger with lettuce and tomato, one chili cheese hot dog, one bag of Walnut Creek cheddar and sour cream potato chips (2.25 oz), and a bottle of Kutztown birch beer (24 oz) -- all for $11 something, including tax but before tip. There are two community tables, one of which we shared with Ernie, a local, who gave us great advice on which roads to avoid for our onward travels. The shop is worthy of a longer browse. They seem to have a bit of everything. For instance, fruits and vegetables, refrigerator cases with milk, homemade macaroni or tuna salads, fresh deli items, cast iron frying pans, hardware store items, phone charging plugs, greeting cards, and so much more. Staff were also very friendly. We ordered at the counter, and our hot items were brought to our table. We self-selected the soda and chips from the floor. You need to pay only when it's time to leave.

We get fresh locally grown vegetables and also the occasional fried ham sandwich. Everyone who works here is super friendly and helpful. This is definitely the go-to spot in the Lost River Valley for those of us who live here and also the adventurers who come out for the wild and wonderful Bed-and-Breakfast experiences.
