The Inn at Lost River far exceeded our expectations last week. Everything about it reflects the impeccable taste and care of its proprietors--from the paint colors of the beautifully appointed rooms, to the sausage strata at breakfast and huge oatmeal chocolate chip cookies at happy hour, to the lavender soaps and lotions. The cafe and general store--only yards away from the charming farmhouse--were surprising bonuses. Michael and Patrick were the perfect hosts--warm, knowledgeable, and available when needed. Stopped by on a Sunday looking for a place for the night and we were so lucky to have not just a room but a cabin. Quaint and beautifully decorated. Breakfast was delicious. Wine for happy hours. I totally agree with the other reviews that this is a 5 star place. The couple who run the Inn are super friendly and helpful, the rooms are spacious and comfortable and the food is delicious. The common areas are both pretty and have plenty of room to sit and read or chat. There is also a General Store which has a great Cafe and lots of cute gifts along with local beers and wine. The real beauty is that it has beautiful grounds and is close to an Artisans Cooperative (open during the summer). Hardly any traffic and you have to drive to go anywhere but it's definitely worth it. This part of West Virginia is gorgeous. read more

As good as it gets. My wife surprised me with a trip to West Virginia to stay at a BnB. She had found Inn at Lost River online and I can confirm that the 5 star reviews are accurate. The couple that runs the bed and breakfast are the best and we felt completely welcome. It was my birthday and they made a little custom birthday menu for dinner and everything was so delicious. They were also able to suggest a number of places in the area to visit, which were very useful. We did some hiking, we wandered the grounds at the BnB, and we had fantastic food at a resort just a few miles up the road. We'll be talking about our trip for years to come. What a way to celebrate. The INN is a wonderful place to enjoy time away and local venues. Michael and Patrick are wonderful owners, managers, and caring people. They have a beautiful place fabulous food and provide a warm welcome! We have stayed here before and will be back again. Everything about our stay was terrific. I had a brief but fabulous stay at Inn at Lost River. Toni and Ted were so kind and welcoming. The B&B is beautiful, comfortable and safe; everything I needed as a solo traveler. I stayed in the "Take me home country roads" room. It was spacious and the bed was SO COMFORTABLE. Probably the most comfortable bed I've slept in that is not my own. Toni and Ted are thoughtful and kind. The food was absolutely delicious! I ate SO WELL at their B&B. The wine offered in the evening was also very good (I bought some from their store on my way out because I liked it so much). I wouldn't change a thing; I was totally pleased with my visit. read more

The bed and breakfast as a whole is absolutely gorgeous and the individual rooms are the same. The food was delicious and seemed more like it was from a expensive restaurant than what you would stereotypically expect from rural West Virginia. The hosts Michael and Patrick were exceptionally kind and unbelievably accommodating to guests. In addition the general area around the bed and breakfast was simply wonderful if you enjoy nature. Went in a sightseeing tour today and stopped in because my wi-fi was no servicing. Had a delicious Tomato Basil Soup and Cornbread that melted in your mouth!! My fiance and I consider ourselves B&B aficionados, and this is hands-down our favorite one we have ever stayed in. We have even sent my parents here as a Christmas gift. Toni and Ted are the nicest folks in the world, and will bend over backwards to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. When we arrived late one evening (they were willing to accommodate us for a late check-in!) they asked if we had eaten dinner- I have no doubt they would have fed us if we had said we were hungry. When we said we had, they brought us a tray of tea, raspberries, and fresh cookies. They even offered wine! They were also willing to accommodate a late breakfast for us since I wanted to attend the yoga class taught at the studio across the yard in the morning (recommend!!!) The breakfast here is out of this world. Three courses, including a fruit and yogurt parfait, baked goods, and then a choice of "main dish": usually a delicious omelette with fresh veggies, eggs, or a belgian waffle with fresh berries. The toast they serve is sooo good. Ted and Toni are always helpful and give you options for what to do in the area, give you directions, etc. Lost River is cute as can be, and has something for everyone- shopping (there is a big artist community here), hiking at the state park, canoeing, or just relaxing. The Inn has beautiful grounds on which you can read a book, take a nap, whatever. This place was our first trip together as a couple, and we came back here since we're getting married in several weeks. Not to worry, we'll be back again and again! read more

Absolutely charming! Wonderful owners who really go out of their way to make your stay a pleasant one, tasteful (and not overdone) furnishings, cozy rooms and common spaces, a beautiful setting, and...did I mention (?)...breakfasts that are so good you'll want to come back just for the food. We were here for a hiking weekend, but I would come back just to sit in the library and read for a few days while dreaming of the owner's breakfasts. this place is SO DAMN CUTE!!! right down the street from the B&B i was staying at, this place is a MUST SEE if u are in the area. they have local wines, local soaps and honey and jam.... they also have a cafe where u can order some delish wraps and sandwiches and ice cream!!! i love local spots like this where they have a hodge podge of just about everything. i wanted to buy everything!!! instead i bought some local honey, and you can make your own 6-pack of beer from the unique different kinds of beer they sell. the people that run this store and inn are sweet as can be and accommodating to what you need. they also sell homemade quilts upstairs and local artwork. will def hit it up again when i come back!!! read more

My boyfriend and I stayed here last weekend. Our friends were getting married nearby and had suggested this spot for lodging in the area, so we booked a room. What a beautiful place to stay! The Inn looks like it has undergone a very recent (and very, very tasteful) renovation. Toni and Ted are wonderful hosts. My boyfriend forgot his belt at home and Ted literally gave him his to wear to the wedding! It was so kind! The bedrooms are beautiful, comfortable, and well set up with everything you could need. Toni also checked with us to make see if we needed anything else. The breakfast they served in the morning was quite good, and served in a lovely little dining room full of morning sunlight. Everything was just very well done on their part. On top of all this, Lost River is a really beautiful area. A wonderful place to get away from the city for some peace and quiet, fresh air, and some really lovely mountain views. We'll be back for sure! read more

This place is so cute. I went there about 2 years ago and bought some wine and nick nacks (didn't know you could make your own beer?!) They have really cute, good quality gift items. Whether you have $20 or $200 to spend they have nice things in different price ranges. I think it's all made by locals. Last time I went there they were closed (I think they close before thanksgiving until spring) I will go back in a few months!! read more

The Inn at Lost River was just what we needed when my boyfriend and I were looking for a relaxing getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city this past summer. The grounds were impeccably kept and the owners Ted and Toni were so accommodating, friendly and genuine. From the fresh, organic meals prepared freshly for guests (breakfast was to die for!), to the wine served at happy hour on the back patio - we were in heaven in this quaint oasis! Our room was very comfortable and tastefully designed just like the common areas of the Inn. After a peaceful night's rest, we both took a relaxing yoga class at the new studio just steps away from the Inn. I had never taken a yoga class before but I felt very welcome at the studio. Also, don't forget to stop by the General Store on-site, where cute and unique gifts, home goods craft beers, food and wine can be purchased. The Area: We took a walk to a nearby lake (about a mile walk) which was very picturesque, but if we had more time Ted and Toni recommended a few nearby hiking trails or a canoe trip (which we will be sure to try next time we go!). We also stopped by Lost River Brewing Co. because my boyfriend is a fan of craft beer. It was truly an unforgettable stay and we returned home feeling very rejuvenated. What an AMAZING place. Hosts Toni and Ted are like your mom and dad, unbelievably gracious and hospitable. The Inn is amazing, tastefully decorated and comfortable. My husband and I stayed in the Springhouse which is a private cottage on the property outside of the main house. Linens and bed were super comfortable, gracious touches of chocolates and water in the room. The property features many nooks and crannies to explore including the resident sheep that you can feed and a creek to relax next to as the water babbles by. Breakfast each morning is scrumptious and a great way to start the day. We enjoyed reading in our private screened porch in the afternoon and a conversing over a glass of wine with the hosts. 10 Stars in my book and we WILL be back again and again. Don't miss the General Store too, they can make you a lovely box lunch to go and you must explore all the goodies for sale - beer, wine, handmade items, jewelry, etc. A must for a quick weekend getaway from DC. read more
