The only way to describe Dave and our experience with Guideline Tours is that it couldn't have gone any better! This includes how the reservation started out with a surprise CHP inspection of their buses and a call from Dave that he couldn't guarantee our reservation would leave on time. Since they're a fully licensed tour company (apparently most are not, including those vans with open tops), they are subjected to "surprise" inspections of their transportation fleet. Anyway, Dave called daily as soon as they were notified and he spent time with me explaining the situation. So for a very reasonable increase in cost (not a bait & switch situation) we had a private tour for our party of 4. It was phenomenal! Dave actually decided to be our personal tour guide despite his father being in town. He was friendly and thoughtful. Funny and able to gauge our group, quickly pivoting to a less star-gazing type of tour. His personal stories of the cities he lived in and his personal journey and relationship with the town was the best for us. His knowledge of the history of LA was impressive! We started at the iconic Safari Inn in Burbank, went to a less travelled entry point for a 10 min hike to the Hollywood sign, then worked our way through Hollywood and Beverly Hills, then the Farmers Market and The Grove. I grew up in West LA and then returned as an adult for training for just 3 years near the Silverlake area, and I never saw or knew some of the things Dave was showing and telling us! read more

THIS IS A MUST DO! If you only have 1 day, or a week, take this tour on the first day. It's a great introduction to LA and a way to see the 'lay of the land'. First perk was the pickup and drop-off at our hotel. I really liked that we didn't have to find the pick-up spot in an unfamiliar city. For my husband's first trip to LA, I wanted him to see the highlights since we were short on time. Our guide Bing, was so knowledgeable, informative, and funny! She made this shared tour seem like a private one. We saw so many places and spent time at each one. I've taken city tours in other states (that wasted a lot of time waiting on the next bus) and Guideline Tours has been the absolute best! Tip: Always book directly with the company. Incase anything arises, it's easier to deal direct then with the 3rd party who took your money and won't answer the phone. I've learned from experience! read more

Family came to visit from Northern Michigan just in time for Oscar weekend. We signed up for a tour with Guideline Tours in the afternoon of Hollywood. Saw the Wax museum, Olivera street, China Town, Gromen's Chinese Theater - they drop you off for a 1/2 hour a block from Gromen's and let you walk around. It was very crowded due to the Oscars and was one time Family stated they thought area was bit stetchy. Jessica Chastian walked by us on her way into rehearse for Oscars - that was unexpected bonus!!!! We had such a good time with Tim as our guide. He's incrediblely knowledgable. I liked the fact that the van is enclosed. I'd bought a King's hat, even though I don't follow hockey because it was such a sunny day. I ended up not needing the hat and gave it to Mom of a little girl coming from Staples Center after the game. One of People from Guideline Tours had recommended we pick up the tour at Hotel Figueroa because of street closures due to Oscars. The Hotel Figueroa in itself was an awesome sight. We all trooped downstairs to use the bathroom and buy a soda from their vending machine. They should give tours of the hotel what incredible architecture and furnishings! We paid for parking around the corner. It was reasonable during the day, although we noticed they'd put the price up for people going to evening Clippers game. ( No change in price for us.) Person from Guideline had warned me against hotel parking because it would be 2-3 times higher than cost of random parking lot. Tour almost 4 hours. Honestly if anything give you almost too much for the money. By time got back to hotel on a bit of information overload. Did enjoy seeing Shirley Temple's old house and Christina Aguilara's current house. Information on building used for Fae Rae and King Kong and block used for 'any big city in America' was cool. read more

This tour was the highlight of my first trip to LA. Paul was absolutely amazing! He was knowledgeable about the city, humorous, and gave great recommendations on places to eat and see while in town. I appreciate that the bus was air conditioned, and we weren't out in the open getting sunburned. Had an amazing time with my family!! We were visiting from WI, and really wanted to see the Hollywood sign, the observatory and the beach in one day. Those were our three "must dos" and we got to see it all!! Their city + beach tour was perfect for us because we wanted air conditioning since we don't do too well in the hot sun lol. We even got to see some celebrity homes on the way to the beach which was fun too. Our tour guide was funny and friendly- plus full of random tips and knowledge of Los Angeles! He even helped us with where to eat at the beach stop. Would come back and do a theme park or something since it's super easy and we don't have to worry about transport through the huge city with Guideline Tours, but we only had a few days this time! Visiting LA for the first time for a conference and decided to take a city tour. Guideline Tours is great and the tour guide, Paul, is wonderful!! We were able to see several sites throughout the city that we wouldn't have been able to visit in one day on our own. We took a guided tour of Los Angeles, with Paul on the 4th of May, 2019. It was the best kind of tour you could ask for. We took the 4 hrs tour of la, Hollywood and a market. It was ok, but after a quick run around of downtown we headed to Hollywood for a 20 mt stop and the market for an hour. So for $75 you get a 2.5 her tour including.half an hour in traffic on the freeway. Then some stars mansions. It's an ok tour, but nothing special. read more

We booked this tour through our travel agent. When Dave pulled up in an awesome Mercedes van we were ready to roll. Turns out the other people had to cancel due to jet lag so lucky us got a private tour!!!! Dave was so knowledgeable and enriched us with lots of history and stories as we drove. We were able to stop and take pictures at several places. We stopped to see the Hollywood sign, the walk of fame, the rock walk, Beverly Hills, and drove by tons of stars homes. He gave us plenary of time to wander off and look for ourselves and was waiting for us when we came back. He took pictures for us and always opened the door for us when we got back to the van. We were staying in Santa Monica and took a cab all the way out to the staples center ($45 ride) and when we told him that he said since it was just us he could get us closer to our hotel and that we could take the tram back. He really went out of his way to do extra stops and get us back closer to our hotel to save us some money. It was a fantastic tour with a fantastic guide Dave. What an amazing tour! Was here with my family of 4 visiting relatives, and decided that a tour would be something fun to do with my wife and kids. And it was absolutely worth it! We decided to do the grand city tour with Santa Monica beach included which was probably the favorite part for my kids. We were picked up in a luxurious bus, and our tour guide was excellent!
