This is my new favorite boutique. It's a hidden gem. When you first walk in you are immediately greeted & treated wonderfully! My experience was with Meagan! She was so kind to both my kids & helped entertain them while I shopped! It was seriously the best! Then once you walk back there is a huge selection of awesome brands! I couldn't find my size and Meagan was eager to special order for me & followed up once she got them in. After a few cocktails I went window shopping with Sunny K, Yelp's own leggings wearing fashionista (career in fashion and former boutique owner). She went totally gaga here! She went gaga over the outfit in the window display (left). I thought the colors were becoming but she saw much more ... a mood, an emotion, a way of being, a new character maybe? It's a silk hand-dyed/screened top with leather blended leggings. Admittedly I was stunned to see such an outfit on Abbot Kinney. Anyway, I called the store today to price said outfit. Rude customer service from Susan. I've never seen such a bad attitude from a sales associate. First of all, no greeting when you come in, no acknowledgement at all. Second, I've taken a picture of the item that I liked to remember the designer and Susan almost yelled at me for doing so. When I asked her why can't I take a picture she couldn't even come up with a answer and it just felt like she was just taking her bad mood on me. Oh my...they have some scrumdeliecisious foot wear in this shop. You know you're in trouble when there are no prices on the bottom of the shoes. The leather is just dripping Milano...soft and buttery with that "new car" smell. I felt like I'd just stumbled into a shop in Europe. The man sitting at the desk, was accompanied by two others busily chatting. They barely acknowledged my presence until I spied the proprietor looking at my rather large (faux) diamond and sapphire ring (hence the four stars). I had to come back and revise my review after vising Guild recently. The people catering the store are somewhat neurotic - they'll bark at you impolitely, "no pictures!" It's so much easier to comply when someone has the courtesy to say, "I'm sorry, but we ask that you please not take pictures here." It's easier to be polite and the people at Guild are not. On top of that, they have extremely limited selection for men - it's basically a waste of time to go there. Even though I'm interested in a number of the brands they carry they never have anything in that I'm interested in and they are not open to discussing anything about what they had, can get, or will be getting. Look, it's simple. If you want me to buy Rick Owens from you, be polite and be interested and willing to help me find a product I'm interested in. So this is one of the most unusual places in Abbot Kinney. It's hard to really tell if this place is a really upscale vintage clothing store, or an ultra rich-uber shiek designer heaven. There's not much of a selection either way, but some very trendy out there kind of items. The sales associate (guy) who worked there - who was really nice and friendly for the record, was wearing a sort of man dress. Why did I just bring that up?! Well, I think it kind of fits, as I thought this place was just a little out of its element for the area, or for whom it was trying to please. Typically you wouldn't catch me writing a review. In fact, this is my first review I think I have ever left online. I felt compelled to write it by my experience of visiting "Guild" for the first time ever. My experience was not good, in fact it put me off so much, I had to boot up this computer and write these following notes based upon my experience. When I walked in, I absolutely loved the vibe, its clean walls, spacious floor room, I even conversed with some of the clientele who also seemed to like the clothes', jewelry ect. Everything was a class act. Well, until I met the classless kid with the long black curly hair behind the counter, who seemed more interested in what was going on with Facebook than any of the stores clients. My girlfriend and I just looked at each other puzzled. Now If you're wondering if I am discriminating because some punk behind a counter with long hair paid no attention to a customer, the answer is no, I too have long hair so stereo typing his lack of enthusiasm, knowledge or his downright lack of professionalism had nothing to do with what was in his iPOD or his computer screen. The guy basically just didn't care enough to make eye contact with myself or anyone else. We were all a bother to him. It is too bad because I was ready to buy this amazing ring with a cross stitched on it but they have lost me and lost me for good. I'll make it a point of steering away from this place and letting others know to do the same. I was so perturbed by the situation that when I decided to go back and get a business card and ask who the owner was, the kid couldn't even take two seconds to look away from his computer screen to tell me, so he stared at his screen and mumbled Michael Rosen. The clothes are truly exquisite! Every jacket, scarf, pair of boots and piece of jewelry more gorgeous than the next. However, you get the feeling you're being sized up as you walk through the front door! One particular older gentleman is always looking down his nose at you.. never a smile, he just follows you around the store like you're a shoplifter! I might not be wearing Margiella or McQueen while shopping on Abbot Kinney but I certainly can afford it sir! I wanted to try on shoes and she told me to try on the pair in the window and if I liked them she'd grab my size but she didn't offer to get them after I said I liked them. The only reason why I am not giving this place only 1 star, is because this is 1 of the 3 retail locations (according to the designer's website) in the United States where one can find Nicolas Andreas Taralis apparel, and because my experience was only over the phone. I live in Florida, where rare designer apparel (such as Taralis) is close to impossible to find, as the market concentrates on mainstream brands like Prada and LV. In the past, I have been able to call stores across the country to purchase and order finer designs, like Dior Homme and Ann Demeulemeester, and I have never had any problem neither with my orders, nor the service I've received. This may be, because I am willing to pay for such luxury and service. Yesterday, I called Guild and left a message requesting that someone please call me back to help me with some questions about a suit I am interested in purchasing. I received a call today from a 310 number and there was complete silence. Later, I received a call from the same number, and i spoke to the most irritating salesperson I have ever spoken to. Truthfully, I didn't even bother to ask for a name because I wanted to get off the phone with this guy. He mentioned they had some blazers, and he provided their price. All this information was fair, but as soon as I mentioned that I needed a size EU44 (XS), he said that the smallest size ANYONE HAS EVER ORDERED IN THE U.S. is a size EU48. Patron of the New in New York, actually carries size EU44 for many of their items. I mentioned that was alright, and that I had Patron of the New look into their inventory for one, and that it would be nice if he could help me find out if they could maybe place a special order and how much it would cost me. He simply told me that if I already had another store look into their inventory, that I didn't need to ask him for the same thing. This response was not only rude, but he made it seem like he really didn't care to help me. So I mentioned that I was asking this of him, in case he is able to offer a different style item than New York can offer. Then, I asked if he could maybe e-mail me if he found that it would be possible to create the special order. He simply said no, and told me to e-mail my request to the general customer service e-mail for the store. I said thanks, and the call ended. They may have many exclusive items of fine quality in this store, but their service is less than poor. Reading the reviews i have found on this page lets me know that I was lucky to have spoken to these people over the phone rather than in person. Love this store!! Some of my key and favorite pieces to my wardrobe are from here. I've gotten some classic and "elegant with an edge" pieces from here. I love that I can stroll in off of casual Abbott Kinney and get a wide variety of high end designers under one roof. Not typical for this area. I've experienced nothing but efficient, kind, and helpful assistance from the employees. Give it a try. At worse, you will have added some new and fun pieces to your wardrobe. read more
