Great store I found on my way to work. I wasn't expecting much, but the food here is actually really creative and delicious. Fresh pasteries in the morning, lots of huge cookies in the cases, and fresh coffee. I stopped in one day and they were PACKED and serving creemees. They make a mean breakfast burrito that I literally couldn't stop talking about at work and ordered way too many times. The service is so nice too. Has a real coffee shop vibe, but one your grandma would enjoy. Tables to eat at, some tables outside, couches if you want to read the paper. The owner makes an effort to remember your name which I really loved. It's worth a visit for the food and the homey, lovely vibe. read more

The store itself does not offer much beyond the bare essentials. There are bottles of water, eggs, soda. It is not the place to stop if you need a bag of flour or a bottle of ketchup. If they have it, it will most likely be very small, and not quite what you want. The real draw here is the prepared food. Lunch sandwiches are top-notch, and well-priced. This was my first visit under the new ownership. I popped in for breakfast and had the most delicious breakfast sandwich on a Portuguese muffin. The food was so yummy - clearly high-quality ingredients - and the welcome was warm. Quick service, too! They charged me $6.00 for medium sized cold brew coffee that was so weak and c watered down, barely any coffee in it. It was just awful. There was no price listed on their menu so it was a shock at the register. The cashier was kind enough to lower the price for me to $4.00. But honestly, even that was over priced. This new ownership has proved that the Guilford Country Store is a real gem. We knew one of the owners, Ali, for several years when she worked in the Dorset, VT area. Stayed in touch via social media. We travelled there to both see her and her store. Both my husband and I were so transfixed by what she and her partner since purchasing this place. The only thing I can fault them for is, when they are busy customer service takes a back seat, and people get very short on the phone and details get left out like lettuce on two sandwiches I ordered. Wow! What a hidden gem in VT. This Country Store blew my mind this morning and I am excited to have found this little shop! I stopped in after hearing that they make great breakfast sandwiches, and as stated, the bacon, egg and cheese I had on their roll was incredible. The roll was toasted perfectly and the egg/meat ratio was perfect for the sandwich. Even though this was a highlight of the Country Store, I think what I appreciated the most was both the ambiance at this store, and merchandise they sold. This store is a legitimate Country Store. The shelves were packed with both local VT goods such as cheese, jams, and art work, as well as name brand merchandise. They had items ranging from basic home goods to organically made dog treats. I've literally been coming to the GCS since I was three years old, and that was almost forty years ago. I live out of state now, but wanted to make sure I came back to my hometown and visited the GCS while I was in the area, because of all the new renovations and fabulous ownership. They new layout inside looks great and is very welcoming. I can still remember what it looked like before, and they did a great job keeping it looking authentic while making sure it was updated for a modern feel. The seating area in the café is very clean and relaxing, and if I had time, I would've ordered a sandwich and coffee. I like that they sell authentic maple products, with the syrup coming from the Franklin farm in Guilford. Granted, some of the maple products come from out of state, but as long as it's authentic and not imitation, then I can let that one slide. Owners are super friendly and talkative and love to hear about the ol' days of the GCS and in the "mud room" as you walk in, there are many pictures of how the building used to look when it was just a basic stopping point for the horse and carriage. read more

Driving home to Connecticut from the Killington area on the back roads we stopped at the Guildford Country Store based on TripAdvisor reviews. It is a fairly typical country store but they have a nice cafe area as well as the shelving and counter. This is a family affair in which the husband and wife are working and teenage daughters there as well. We had delicious soups. A vegetarian split pea that somehow had the smokey flavor of the ham that was not there and a very nice clam chowder. We each also had a Cheddar grilled cheese sandwich. Marc catered our lunch for 90 people which was held outdoors in a tent on a rainy day in October. He was very accommodating on the menu. Our guests loved the food! I read about their breakfast sandwiches so I went on Sunday morning. Nice location, good atmosphere to eat in. Everything was done perfect. Owners said they come from Brooklyn and you can tell by the quality of their food. They know how food is suppose to be prepared after living and eating in Brooklyn. The roll was like it was just made that morning, perfect in every respect. I will come back here again and again to eat. Very nice personalities also. New Englanders seem to lack in this department so glad they bring a little flavor to the area along with so,e excellent food.
