According to my kids, Johnny's makes the best hot cocoa "on this planet earth." Ask for the s'mores special. It is "not comparable" to regular hot chocolate.

This is where Ludlow with good food and vibes live. After ski coffee and cocktails. - espressos drinks ready. If for a quick grab or staying for the vibes. The following: I would order the steak dip / or the Ruben but also sells out fast. 2nd favorite sandwich is the Lynn Reilly 3rd. Anything pressed on a sandwich

Visited with the whole extended family. The hosts were more than accommodating. Great sandwiches, said everyone in the crowd. Nice setting, newly renovated, I heard. In a ski town, the prices were more than reasonable. What was most impressive: the service was especially attentive. Kind, friendly woman behind the coffee bar. Another gentleman, who saw we had three active toddlers with us, graciously made mini-hot chocolates without our knowing, and then presented them to us gratis. The whole experience won everyone over. Hard to believe such a welcoming place exists in a busy ski town.

Hands-down the best espresso coffee and fresh, made-to-order sandwiches in Ludlow! One of my regular go-to lunch spots.

Maybe I'm easy to please but this place does what you want it to do. It gives you great sandwiches quickly with friendly service. I stopped by on a recent weekday and enjoyed a terrific chicken cutlet sandwich that was packed full of toppings too. A good kind of messy sandwich. The next day I opted for a pizza panini that did as it advertised -- pepperoni, sauce and cheese. Yummy!! There's nothing "gourmet" about it but it's still the perfect place to stop by in town. Delish!

I was in town for a quick business trip and Johnnys was recommended to me. Glad I went. Johnny was strumming one of his guitars when I walked in & that started a friendly casual conversation. I had the VT Panini, and it was amazing! I'll definitely stop again when I'm in town!

Stopped for a coffee after skiing; friendly service and good espresso and coffee to go. Ha, delicious cookie to go as well.

There was a parking lot but we had already parked on-street prior. The interior was cute; there was a cafe and a few tables. On the other side was the kitchen area; they brought out the food to us on the cafe side. The place got busy after we got there; seems to be a hot spot for lunch. We got there around 10:50, they weren't serving food until 11. This was fine since they served coffee and that was priority to us at that time. I had a medium iced maple latte and it was good. For my meal, I had the chicken and waffles sandwich which were decent; there was crispy fried chicken, cole slaw, in between freshly made fluffy waffles. It was overall decent, but something was missing; I think that was some maple syrup or some hot sauce. My child had the fried Mac and cheese donut; it's a Mac and cheese shaped into a donut; this was good and a cute way to present food. Overall, a good spot to get some breakfast and lunch.

We learned that Blue Duck was previously a lunch stop, but is now a very classy dinner restaurant - 5 course tasting menu on Fridays and Saturdays with a fixed price. Each entree was beautiful, unique, very tasty. Ours briefly was 1) sweet corn, ricotta & pesto soup 2) seared Ahi with fried potato and lemon aioli 3) waygu with radish cream, microgreens 4) red gem salad with roasted beets and goat cheese, blueberry vinaigrette 5) Pavlova with berries and oat clusters Wow. The service was attentive and kind. The space was so thoughtfully decorated - everything from the lighting (gentle), to beautiful chairs/tables/dinnerware/flatware/decor- all adds to the beauty, presentation, and ambiance. We traveled here for the skiing, but found this gem of an experience.

We came literally a few minutes before closing time, and they were kind enough to accommodate our group. There was a few ppl seated enjoying coffee and convos, but no one line, so ordering was quick. Stopped in on a road trip with my family of three, including a toddler. I wanted to like this…read moreplace. The menu has charm and ambition. The name resonated with us, as we have a flock of 20 chickens at home. Unfortunately nearly everything that could go wrong did. The kids menu has zero breakfast options at a breakfast diner. Grilled cheese and hot dogs don't belong on a morning menu. When we tried to order a single pancake for our toddler we were told "the order is for two." No offer to help, no alternative suggested. Just a hard no. Because of the menu structure, our 3 year old's meal was literally the most expensive at the table. The menu is not kid friendly. The cost of Orange juice is also not kid friendly. But they did give him a "the hatchery" sticker when we left. When ordering pancakes the server asked "sausage or bacon?" with no mention that either was a $4 add-on. That felt like an upsell we weren't warned about. One of our three meals was completely forgotten and only caught when two plates arrived at the table. Someone sat and watched the rest of us get served. Chives were on all of our savory dishes. Not mentioned anywhere on the menu. We found out by picking them off our food. Not everyone wants chives. We ordered blueberry pancakes. Plain pancakes arrived. We only discovered this after paying when we questioned a duplicate blueberry charge on the bill. The response was defensive until we opened the box and showed them. The resolution was a $2.50 refund for the missing blueberries. The "home fries" are smashed baked potatoes, not what anyone expects from that menu description. Some of the potato pieces were visibly bruised and discolored and should never have left the kitchen. A hollow apology. Complete indifference. We tipped, packed up, and left quietly. We were good guests. This place didn't earn it.

She said "I'm not gonna do that, so if you're not ok with contamination then that's not for you". I was like- you can't take two seconds to just wipe it down? I got up and left- I have never EVER had an issue at a breakfast place in my life. They weren't busy- it's a Monday morning, no reason that should have been an issue. I will never go here again.

As this tiny place can accommodate no more than 5-8 tables, waiting for a table is the norm if you intend to dine here. The waiting area is on the ground level. Vermont Apple Pie Company offers an extensive breakfast menu (waffles, French toast, pancakes, eggs any style...). Everything is freshly made in the kitchen by Sheryl. It truly is a family affair with daughter Erica helping out. Ever since our family fell in love with their delicious waffles, we have been coming here whenever we are in the area. Their freshly made Belgian Waffles have a slight crispy exterior while retaining a lovely fluffy centre. Absolutely scrumptious with just Vermont maple syrup, although sides such as fried eggs, sliced smoked ham, crispy bacon, home fries and sausage patty make great accompaniments. Other perennial favorites include the Apple Cinnamon Waffles, Chocolate Chip Banana Waffles and the Egg Muffin Sandwich. Highly recommended if you are in the area and want to treat yourself to a nice leisurely breakfast.

We looked around at the fresh and frozen pies and they looked appealing. As others have mentioned, there are no prices so that was a little disconcerting. A gentleman came and helped us and as noted in prior reviews, he was somewhat gruff but I didn't take it as grumpy or mean. My take, unsubstantiated by any scientific evidence, is that not every store owner is pre-disposed to having a neurotypical customer-centric focus. That being said, we were offered coffee with our pie slices and a place to sit. There is currently a lot of construction going on at the place because the business was hit hard after COVID and then flooding in Vermont in 2023 caused significant damage. My blueberry coffee cake was good. I will say it wasn't worth $8 per slice. As noted, the prices are sky high here. For two slices, two coffees, a small bag of cookies and a peanut butter bar it was $36....$39 if I wanted to pay by card so I opted for cash and saved the $3. Probably if prices were posted, customers would immediately turn around and walk out. When I saw the price of the pie slice, I immediately thought "This is as expensive as Manhattan". I don't mind as much when I shell out big bucks for food there because it's expected but it was a bit of a shock to see those prices in Vermont. To wrap it up, I agree with others that this place is overpriced and service is brusque at best. However, if prices had been posted, I would have given this 3 stars easily because I appreciate a direct and no-nonsense approach to running a business.
