We were leaving for a trip in 2 days and my husband's check engine lite came on Friday nite. He drove over early Saturday am. No other customers around. 2 people at the counter were less than friendly, and said it would be 10 days for an appointment to check it. Guilford NAPA did it immediately for free, and the VW dealer was able to reprogram the codes quickly on Monday and we were on our way. This place used to be different. They also no longer respond locally for AAA roadside service, which is a shame as they were very good. read more

Guilford Texaco is the best mechanic shop I've been to. They are very trusting when it comes to service and always give us the honest prices on our cars. We have been going to this shop for 18+ years. My car was making some noises and I didn't feel safe in it. I dropped it off on a Friday and they told me it was in need of brakes badly. The owner was able to squeeze me in and get my brakes done that way I was in a safe vehicle. I couldn't appreciate this more. They always help us out in a pinch and always give us the right value for what we are paying for. The battery in my car died this morning as I was trying to get to church. Guilford Texaco was at my house within 30 minutes to check out my charging system and my battery. Within the next 30 minutes, everything was tested and the battery was replaced. The mechanic was knowledgeable and explained everything to me. What the owner could have done is be fair and charge the ACTUAL TIME it takes for one of his back yard mechanics to do a job that literally took my NEW MECHANIC 20 minutes. You're reply was nothing more than a dog and pony show to CYA so other people won't get a bad impression from reading my honest and bad review. i had been coming here for years but not anymore . They over charged and I even argued about the amount $1100 for one brake line on a 24 year truck which had all new lines except for one. They were awesome, came super fast, and when my battery didn't need to be replaced, they didn't encourage me to buy a new one anyways. I only have rave reviews for Jim and Texaco. Jim is an outstanding person who stands by his commitment to excellence. Here's an example of his character. Recently I had my daughter's vehicle repaired at Texaco when she was home from college. After she went back, she had another issue with her car. When I called Jim, he said not a problem. He dispatched a tow truck all the way to New Britain to pick up her car and tow it back to Guilford. Then he repaired her car. When we went in to pick up the car and pay for it, he said no charge. I couldn't believe it. He literally wouldn't take my money. This is how the good folks at Guilford Texaco take care of their customers. I brought my 2016 Mini Clubman to Guilford Texaco based on their good reputation among locals. The check engine light was on and a "Drivetrain malfunction" message had appeared. The estimate to "fix" the what they determined the problems to be was $5,900 which included replacing the turbo assembly. The car had 49800 miles on it. The work they proposed as well as the estimate seemed way out of line for a car with less than 50K miles. I paid for the diagnosis and an oil change ($211) and took the car back to the Mini Dealer in Darien. They fixed a few things including emission sensors and a new gas cap as well as rotating the tires. Total out the door would have been just under $400. I aslo needed front brakes which was no surprise. Including the brakes the total was $1334. I URGE CAUTION IF YOU GO TO GUILFORD TEXACO. DOUBLE CHECK THE NEED FOR THE WORK AND WHAT THEY ARE CHARGING. read more

Jordan was the absolute best. He came through where Geico roadside assistance fell very very short. A tow truck from Geico roadside assistance had shown up to throw a spare tire on because I had a flat. The tow truck driver asked me where the lug nut key was. My first thought was, what in the world is a lug nut key? Not knowing what it looked like I trusted him that it wasn't in the glove box. He then left because he could not change the tire without it. After a frantic call to my brother I discovered that it was in fact in the glove box once I had a description as opposed to the tow truck drivers condescension. I opted to use my AAA service and hoped someone like guilford Texaco would show up. Thankfully they did! Jordan did in half the time (and in the dark) a job their competitor couldn't even start. I can't say enough how wonderful and helpful Guilford Texaco is. Back about a month ago my wife had some problems with her car. Not only did they immediately take her in and fix it, they gave her a discount for being a nurse. I think that says a lot during these times. Yesterday we were leaving to go out of town and my car started leaking oil. I called them and they had me come down right away. The girls working the front were sooo nice and helpful. After they inspected the car, the guy brought me into the garage and showed me exactly what was wrong. A lot of places don't do that and that shows me how trustworthy they are and that they they aren't trying to oversell or rip people off. I don't think I have ever trusted a shop like I do these guys. Be aware of this place. Seems like they are busy so they must be doing something good but I would never bring my business here. My car broke down near by and I had to tow my car to nearest AAA station (Guilford Texaco). They took care of the issue over night and when I came back to pick it up, my car's AC was not working at all. I brought up the issue to them and they are like "Oh I don't know. We didn't touch your AC". And they have the nerve to tell me it costs $1700 to fix it! They said "A Good AC compressor costs at least $800" WRONG! Do they even know most people now a day have a power of internet at his finger tip??? Little google search reveals that a brand new compressed goes about $350. What a bunch of shady hillbillies. I do not know whether they messed up with my AC to up sale me and I don't want to assume but I wouldn't be surprised even if they did. I brought my car to my regular guy and he told me it's $600 repair. Sounds about right. read more

Watch out for these guys! I've got nothing against the tow truck operators, who are very good at what they do. But don't get any work done at the garage! I recently took out two tires on a road obstacle on a Sunday evening and called their truck. I had them take it to their shop to check it and replace tires. They charged me double the most expensive price I could find online for the tires. They also told me the wheel was okay even though it in no way looked good and mounted a new tire on it. When I took it home I could feel a vibration and will now replace the wheel. I'm a local and when I commented on the tire price he just shrugged and said "I'm not Walmart". Stay away from this thief!!! read more
