Jerrell was kind enough to help me that same day a few hours later with no questions asked. I had never stepped foot in their establishment prior. He put my car on the lift to look for a device, he was not able to find anything but told me to come back anytime if I had any additional information. This type of kindness really went a long way for me. I won't hesitate to bring my car there for service because of the way he went out of his way for me and didn't have to. Not the best experience here. I inquired about service on my diesel truck. The woman at the service desk was rude and didn't like the fact that my mechanic friend and I had an idea of what the issue could possibly be. I understand they have to do their own diagnosis, but they could've been much nicer with how they handled what we thought it was. I felt very uncomfortable and didn't like how I was treated. Well, Palumbo's is doing pretty well without my review, but here goes: -Gave an estimate and presented an invoice for the same. No add-ons like the dealer. Subtle work suggestions printed on reverse of invoice listed according to severity or need to replace without any pressure. -Dealer, who always serviced my Acura TLX always gave a verbal estimate of what needed to be done next delivered with a print out of red stop signs. This was delivered in an ominous tone & they were unwilling to prioritize all of the work needing to be done. "You might as well do it while you're here...we're pretty booked because of (choose any reason)" Lots of doom & gloom. Car has less than 50k miles... -Greeter/cashier was extremely friendly and explained things well. Promised the job would take about an hour, but I paid & was out the door in 45 minutes. Similar service last month at the dealer's took 1.5+ hours... I was looking to establish a relationship with a garage that was close by, trustworthy, pleasant to deal with and who did good work. I had a problem with my new (new to me - used) VW Tiguan. After driving it for less than 2 months, I walked out of my office to find the rear passenger tire flat. The dealer, who had been oh so helpful during the buying process, suddenly didn't remember telling me the tires were new. Instead, he said, "call the service department - they handle stuff like this." Frustrated as I have an upcoming road trip, I called Peter Palumbo. He asked a few questions then asked me to stand by and he would get right back to me. He did. It turns out the tires the dealer had put on the vehicle were not only cheap, but they were also wrong - high-speed tires for an all-wheel-drive compact SUV. IMHO, Mr. Palumbo has a talent for hiring! Every single person that works here is service oriented and determined to help you. You get honest service. My dealer wanted me to pay $1200 per front side on my car's issue, they came up with a $300 solution for BOTH sides. I took my car to have the AC fixed just days before my wedding. The whole team was very nice, discussing the problem and my options in a down-to-earth, friendly way. Nobody talked down to me. I got my car back the next day, in good working order. Plus friendly conversation not only from my friends from my drop-off visit, but new staff who had been told to expect me and knew just who I was, down to a cheery "you must be Elise!" when I walked in. Plus they checked it over for free and let me know what to keep an eye on. A few days ago, my new husband brought my mom's van in with an AC issue that the dealer had failed to fix. In addition to finding and fixing the problem, and making sure everything else was up to date and working properly, they talked my handy husband, who's something of an amateur mechanic himself, through how to repair/replace the bits of the AC system, which, knowing our AC mojo in my family, will break any day. They placed special focus on the parts that are easy/safe to do at home. Check it out: they told him that he could bring his car in and they'd find what part(s) need replacing, and then he could take the car home, do the repair, and they'd recharge it for him. Which would save us fistfuls of money. For real, I'm telling everyone how awesome these guys are. I noticed my rear right tire was low so I stopped at Palumbo's on my way to work. They checked my tire to see if I had picked up a nail, not just put air in, but to find the reason. I needed to have the rim redone that's where the leak was coming from, told me to come back after work to fix it. I came back, they fixed it, I asked the charge? Only a donation to the food bank . RWARNING !!! DO NOT buy a used car from this establishment. The used cars are not inspected. They are sold under the bare minimums per the CT DMV. When you call to discuss any issues, the owner stalls for time by having you bring the car back again and again .... then ends up saying "You bought it "as is"." If you have any questions in reference to my experience, contact me. Part 2 ..... Steve,you know better. Within one hour after purchasing the car from you, oil was leaking in my driveway, the wiper on driver side was broke, the brakes and rotors were worn down to minimum, one of the hatchback lift supports were busted, new tires installed were under inflated by 15lbs, and the car burns 1qt of oil every 250 miles, power sterring fluid was low and the car was low a half quart. I reported all this to you and you only provided me with an oil change. No honest or reliable and reputable place of business does this. If you were such you would have tried to fix the problems or offer a refund. Maybe even be honest about the car's problems in the first place. Offering an oil change and talking with me doesn't address the problems. read more

Friendly people, don't seem to overcharge (at first glance), but it appears they also do not check the cars they're selling thoroughly. With no appointment and never having been there before, I stopped in on the recommendation of several friends. Lela at the front desk was exceptionally receptive and helpful. My car was attended to quickly and because the repair was minor and took so little time, my "bill" consisted of making a donation to the Guilford Food Bank. I have been back 2 more times. At the most visit this past week they went out of their way to find the exact (and somewhat obscure) tire I needed and had it for me the next morning. Can't believe I have reviewed these guys yet. Been going there for years. But ----- I want to share my experience with them. I've had a fever for four days - decided to drop the dog off in New Haven for play time since he's going kind of nutty. Drop off dog. Turn on engine. Gear shift is completely broken. I'm thinking - transmission? Call AAA and wait 45 minutes. Guys come and say they can't load my car on to the flatbed because it's stuck in gear and they don't know what to do. So I call Palumbos. Leila at the desk is so helpful and gets a guy to tell them what to look for and disengage, etc. They still don't know how to do it. So they drive away. Call back, practically in tears - fever boiling and stuck waiting outside in the sun. Leila assures me they'll help. The OWNER of the shop (Peter Palumbo) drives all the way out to New Haven to look at the car and bring me back. Meanwhile another tow truck arrives and Peter helps him figure out what to do to disengage whatever cable it was that needed disengaging. I cannot thank this business enough! They have gone much more than the extra mile to help me in a very trying situation. Awoke to a dead car battery at 7 am. Peter Palumbo rushed over, jumped the battery, followed me to the train station, where I was able to make the train, and took my car to the station to install a new battery. They will drop it back off at the station so I can get home when I return. No way AAA could have saved me in a situation where I had to make this train. I have been going to Palumbos for years for general maintenance on a Pontiac Minivan, a Jeep Liberty and a Honda Odyssey (oil changes, tire rotation, new tires, warnings on the car). They would give me rides home or drop off the car at my house when it was done. I have always felt they were honest and fair but today they proved it without a doubt . The 2010 Liberty was making a ticking noise. They discovered it was a leaking water pump. Since the car only has 42,000 miles they thought to see if there was a recall. When they called the local Jeep dealer they found out that I had the extended warranty which covers the water pump and pulleys that would need to be replace and could be done for just a $100 deductible. A shop with less integrity would have not let me know that I could save myself money by bringing it to the dealer but do the work themselves, making a nice profit. They explained what was wrong, let me know which local Jeep dealer had the part in stock and saved me a hundreds of dollars in parts and labor. In 2015, I brought in an old car, and they were honest with me about what it needed, which resulted in my getting a new vehicle rather than making a substantial investment in a dying one. They didn't have to do that; they could have made that money. But they are honest. They have a ton of integrity. I recently brought in a car that ended up needing some big fixes. They gave me an estimate that was very fair, and when they discovered more major issues as they were doing the work, Palumbos committed to staying in that budget to get everything done. And they did. That commitment saved me hundreds and hundreds of dollars. If that was all, I would be impressed. But beyond that, they treated us like family, going well out of their way to come and pick us up to get the car. Their work is excellent.
