I was thrown out of a guitar center in Allen park by this guy Jerome. All the four years going there. He was probably the rudest person their to me for zero reason. I've gone to the guitar center for 30 years and never been thrown out? I was playing a ukulele talking to a guy waiting to have his guitar finished by the luthier. The guy repairing his instrument to me very rudely go some where else. So I said no! Dude its the guitar center? And then Jerome who I'm sure planned all this now that he's manager and power then came over and told me to leave the store. I was kicked out of his store. His store? So anyway. I got in his face and cussed him out. Terrible man really pathetic! I've been going there 4 years since i moved here never no problems. So I realize by going to other guitar centers around Detroit Allen park is the worst customer service ever. Don't go there Jerome is a complete stuck up clown. read more

i never leave reviews as i think it's extra, but i called in the store to see if something was in stock and was told it was. I drove over an hour to pick it up and once i got there they were then unsure if it was in stock then after they figured out that it was indeed in stock, i was told it couldn't be sold and that i'll have to order it instead. a big waste of two hours of driving and gas, all to leave empty handed. read more

Purchased a used Ibanez Guitar online from this store. They sent me wrong Guitar. I called and spoke with Operations Manager and he said he would look into it and get back to me. Never Did! I get the majority of my DJ equipment from them, as the closest store is only 15 minutes away. My favorite reps are no longer there, and the new crew in Pro Audio overlook the fact that you may have been waiting for quite some time. I find this attitude to be pretty much the same at most Guitar Centers and find myself ultimately looking for a manager. That's not so bad because you can sometimes work out a better deal when a manager is helping you. I love the gear they stock at most stores, which gives me an opportunity to test the stuff out... extensively! Bottom line... Newby to the guitar. Wanted to buy a strap but knew nothing about them. Went into the store and asked for help. The salesperson showed me where the straps were and walked away. When I saw him again, I asked him if he could help me. (I didn't know how to put the strap on the guitar, how to adjust it, etc.) He said "just pick the one you like" and walked away again. After struggling for 10 minutes to get it onto the guitar and try to adjust it and not being sure if was adjusted correctly, I said again "Can someone PLEASE help me". He then looked at me and said, "It's a guitar strap. I can't literally hold your hand". Wow! As I learn, I will hopefully be buying upgraded guitars, cases, strings, etc. But it won't be from here. read more

I had a Wedding Event that I needed speakers and subs for. I went to the Guitar Center in Allen Park Michigan. When I went to rent out the speakers they claimed that they had no sub available to rent, and that they would try to find me one. They did event find me one that was had a missing audio cable with only a power cable. When went to return the rentals I ran into a rude sales manager named Jerome S.P. I have a back problem and he refused to help me unload the rentals from my car saying he didn't have anyone to help. He checked the cables and told me that there is a missing audio cable and went on a violent rant about how he was sick of me and my attitude and yelling at me in front of a customer for not packing the speakers correctly. I told him that I will not come back there ever again which made him more angry and began threatening to charge 70 extra dollars!! Just to shut him up I ended up having give a cable to him that he never gave me. Stay Awayyyyyyy remember the name Jerome S.P. very unprofessional. I ordered a used pedal from their website and it was defective (bad footswitch). After contacting the manufacturer I was told that switch replacement was quite difficult, so I returned it to the store and ordered another used one to be delivered to the AP store. When I went to pick up my replacement two days later I found the defective one I had returned in their used pedal case. I made sure to ask to look at it and found the same Velcro I added to it, so it was certainly the one I had returned and there was zero chance it had been sent out, repaired, and returned in 48 hours. Ugh. Guitar Center is the only thing left for a musician. They've run all the little guys out of business. The definitely have a decent selection of low end equipment and some real nice high end acoustic guitars and keyboards, but overall.. it's a lot of flash and not much of substance. I always feel like I'm in a used car lot when I go here. They're always trying to give you a deal on something that looks pretty, really isn't all it's cracked up to be. At least they give you lots of time to "kick the tires" and take the instrument for a "ride around the block". If you get there at an off time, this works great. Get there at a busy time and you'll be trying to play subtle blues licks while some kid next to you is cranking out metal with no regard for anyone in the store. Like I said.. it's virtually all that's left. Sure there's Herb David in AA and Elderly in Lansing, but both of those shops really cater to more of an acoustic crowd. So every so often I begrudgingly go to Guitar Center and take a look around, always leaving with nothing in hand. read more

This particular guitar center is the worst of the worst. the poster child of every guitar center stereotype. The rows of poorly set up Chinese made guitars. The predatory staff that will surround you like sharks upon entry. Just terrible. The staff here is the main problem. Not only will you be asked if you need help every 3 minutes by every employee on the floor looking for commission they will try to sell you the more expensive product every time. I stress, the 5-star review is for the in-house guitar tech ONLY. Jennifer is a friendly, competent, confident, and straightforward tech. This gal grew up around guitars and definitely knows what she's doing on set-ups and repairs. She won't make you feel like you have to do all kinds of crazy stuff to get your 6-string up and running. Basically, she does a fantastic job and if you need a guitar set-up, take it to her. The rest I would give ** There are some other friendly people on the sales staff and some knuckleheads as well, "No shit, you STEP on a stomp-box" lol! Lisa at Guitar Center Allen Park MI is the most understanding staff we've ever spoken with. We had a huge problem with our order, a gift for our son's 18th birthday, and found out his gift would not arrove on time. Lisa listened, empathized, and was very kind to my husband and I. She immediately sought for advise from her Supervisor, and took care of our problem so quickly. She even said she will be the one to help pack and ship my son's gift to ensure it leaves on time, and then called us back a few minutes later woth the tracking#. She didn't through all the lengths, but she did, with a very kind and professional manner. She was happy to help. We felt her eagerness to help solve the problem...which we will never forget. We are definitely going to be repeat customers. Eventhough we live in CA, we will make our attempts to place our future orders at Allen Park MI because they exceeded our expectations. Apparently I interrupted the manager's lunch because I showed proof the Musician's Friend price on sale 15% off and she gave me a hard time but said she would match it this time, but they don't they don't take coupons from Amazon. If I could give this zero stars I would! I know nothing about guitars and I was looking for a Christmas gift for my nephew. I let them talk me into the String Club. They didn't tell me it would start from the moment I purchased it so I almost missed out on the November strings since it doesn't roll over. (My fault for not asking). After seeing the movie Purple Rain I was determined to get a purple guitar just like Prince! I went in this joint and they had a purple one but not like the one Prince had it was more pinkish purple. I was excited when I arrived but sad when they didn't have it. Who ever they offered to order me one! Yessss! Sorry that corporate big-box retail has nearly ruined music retail in general. Yes they do have many brands. I find that for 90% of what I want and need musically I must go elsewhere. And after tottering on bankruptcy for years now, and paying their bills by taking on their creditors as new owners, I have to say that if you're going to put all the smaller but servicing dealers out of business, at least BE SUCCESSFUL. We went to the Allen Park store to buy a bass for my daughter (who already plays piano and electric guitar) and the minute she walked in the door with two friends, she was stopped and asked what she was there for. She confusedly replied that she was looking for a bass guitar as I was walking up behind her to go in. The employee rudely told us they were only letting 10 people in the store at once and told us it was better for everyone if we knew what we were looking for... okay? We're looking for a bass. So my husband walked in behind us and the employee also stopped him and asked what he was there for, and my husband replied he was with us. So, the employee threw his hands in the air and so, "Oh! A party of 5 - that's half our capacity!" I didn't even know what to say, because it was so rude, so we just walked over to the bass guitars. So, my daughter went and asked the same employee for a specific bass guitar and he stated they didn't have one in stock, but told her he could show her others if she gave him a price range. She did and he scoffed at her and said he wouldn't be able to meet that price point, NOR would he recommend it. He was very condescending and rude. We've done our research and the specific bass she wants in that price range gets amazing reviews and was even recommended to us at two other music stores. And we know there are many great bass guitars in that price range. So, we move on from the bass guitars to look for reflection foam for a mic and they told us they have none in stock, but could they help us find anything else? Um, nope. Basically because my daughter is 14 (but looks even younger), everyone treated her like she was stupid, even though she plays multiple instruments and records and produces her own music. We've been to other GC's and were treated very respectfully. I will literally drive to Ohio to deal with that store before I ever step foot back in this store. Will NEVER shop here again. I've spent thousands of dollars at the Allen Pk GC over the past 5 years and after a recent experience, I can honestly say, never again. I just started playing guitar almost 2 months ago. I had no idea what I was getting myself into upon entering Guitar Center yesterday for a pick and maybe a strap. The store is simply amazing, so many things to look at, and the staff is wonderful! I was impressed with the humidified acoustic room and the employee in there that was very friendly and informational upon answering my "dumb questions" I had for him lol. A different employee directed me where I could find the accessories I was looking for. The wall of electric guitars was quite something to look at... very nice. I almost expected a bunch of guitar snob employees with no time to deal with a silly little girls questions like myself. But was very pleasantly surprised when everyone was kind, respectful, and very helpful. I will be excited to return to Guitar Center when I come back to purchase the fuzzy zebra print strap I had my eyes on in there, and for any of my other needs in my very fun and exciting journey of mastering the ol' 6 string! :) read more

Many times have I gone into this guitar center at different stages of my life as a musician. Just starting out as a bassist, "this place is great, never have lefties though." A little later getting into guitar "nice selection online, nothing in store, I don't see what's so bad about it." And then that's when I noticed the service, when I was looking to buy a guitar, I noticed it slightly but was naive (they really tried to sell a left handed kid a right handed squier tele!) but some years later when I came in for the first time in a while getting into electronic production and djing did I notice-their staff is the worst! At that point I began to trust other's judgement on stores and had experience in what I was looking for by the time I came in and I finally saw through their shit. No one knows what the hell they're talking about and seem more like snake oil salesmen than the "serious music loving staff" they're marketed as. Besides them trying to usher people to only consider the most high priced and outrageous products, they are blatantly rude and disrespectful. Many times you will be told you don't know what you are talking about and cut off. There's even one guy that gets aggressively overly physical with customers in the dj & lighting department and calls everyone his "buddy". Then don't get me started on the drum & percussion area, where staff is more likely to be on their phones than address you--though of course it would only be to overstate their presence. I thought this type of service was only reserved for "hip" sneaker boutiques (i.e. Burn Rubber). So in short if you're in the metro Detroit area and need music service go to any of the other reputable shops, Marshall Music, DJ Supply in Warren, or maybe even another Guitar Center. I don't know, just don't go to this one. read more
