Niko, the manager at guitar center in Braintree has been such a pleasure working with and helping me pick out new gear. Ukulele, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, keyboard, audio interface for recording etc.. all the staff is great but Niko really made me feel comfortable and happy and informed with all my purchases. I went in to see if I could sell two guitars I had that I was no longer using (one electric and one acoustic). I wasn't expecting to get any crazy amounts of money for them because neither of them were under expensive brands and one of the employees kept giving me attitude. For the electric guitar he claimed that no sound would come out of the amp when plugged into the guitar. The volume of the amp was clearly turned almost all the way down. He barely even looked at the acoustic one before saying a straight up no. He also kept calling me "kid" even though I am well into my twenties, and he kept talking down at me. I heard that POC have had issues with workers refusing help and offering bad business so this could also have been a factor of my poor experience. read more

After parting with my baby grand due to change in living arrangement, I started my shopping here for a high-end apartment-sized digital piano. I was shown and played one model, a Yamaha Arius. It was not at all acceptable, but I was left to myself with no one to show me other models. As a POC I do not like this store. I am always respectful when dealing with salespeople and many of the employees in this store are professional and courteous. Do not deal with the manager, who is rude, condescending, and refuses to help when there is a problem. The store is bigger and sometimes has better stock than my closest store, which is North Attleboro. I no longer go to Braintree and instead will go to the very friendly Warwick store or take the time to shop at either of the Boston stores. The large one has free parking in the back. read more

They work on commission, so they act like car salesmen, and don't help you or work in your favor, they only care about money. DO NOT TRUST ANYONE FROM THERE. Had my guitar repaired, they broke it. Guy kept pressing me for the "platinum setup" which is $110 when all I wanted was for him to change the strings and wipe it down, as I was ALREADY BUYING A $640 GUITAR. Found out later the reason it was so cheap was because the frets are too high and COSTS $200 OF REPAIRS, and they REFUSED TO TELL ME WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT when I bought it. I pressed them continuously for the reason why it was so cheap but they smugly said they didn't know. I recommend just coming here to test out guitars and going to a different store to buy the same one or order it on Sweetwater. read more

Terrible service and they tried to rip me off. I went in looking to buy a guitar amp and stood at the counter for 2 minutes without being helped. The two workers behind the counter were dancing to the music as if it was more important. When I was finally helped, they only had the floor model of the amp I wanted and he refused to give me a discounted price even though it had scuffs so I opted to order a new one. I wait for it to come in the mail and it's the EXACT SAME ONE from the store with the scuffs in the same place not to mention it's dusty and dirty. Do not buy anything from these crooks. Earlier today, while driving home from Best Buy in Braintree, I decided to stop at your store. When I left the Army during Vietnam, I was a percussionist in a local Boston band, so I decided to stop and check out the percussion section. I first asked a man working at the checkout a couple of questions, which he ignored, so I returned to browse. As I was leaving, I wanted to ask another question, and with no eye contact, I was told that he would get to me in maybe an hour and dismissed me. On the way out, I asked who I thought might have been the manager and asked for that person's name, which I was told was Max; no last name was given. As a senior citizen, I was insulted and offended by his attitude and had to wonder if there was something else about me that he didn't like. I will be contacting corporate and possibly post this message on Yelp and I will find another one of your stores to conduct my business read more

I walked into the store in Braintree today at 2pm for the first time. I needed guitar strings. I wandered around for a full minute looking for someone. Finally a guy gave me bad direction to find the strings on a hidden wall. Not personable, no customer service skills whatsoever. I approached the counter, 2 cashiers each with a customer. The first customer was finished, the guy saw me and walked away. i am a musician and will never enter that store again read more

I normally like the Guitar center in Braintree and have traded and purchased a few items in the store for a few years up until my current issue with how the staff treats people of color. On April 7 I went to trade in a mint condition bass guitar and the staff who was checking to see if it is was in good condition (come to find out he is one of the two managers of the store), lied directly to me and said he could not hear a sound from the amp. He than went into a private area of the store and said he still could not get a sound out of the bass from another amp. This was alarming to me because it was a fairly new instrument/bass. I left the store confused. So I decided to have my friend test the instrument on his amp and he said it had a great sound and he sent me a video clip of him tuning the bass. I was so frustrated by this point because this was not the first time this same manager rejected my trade in. My last attempt to trade in a acoustic guitar was rejected by Howard because there was a minor scratch on it (still in great condition). He suggested I sell it on Amazon or online. When I went in to complain on April 7,2023 I asked for the manager in charge and I was directed to a co-manager who did not even offer any solution or apology and did not speak one word in response. At the same time the manager who rejected my instruments was present and began telling me about how long he worked in the business and how he didn't use discriminating practices (at the same time no apology's or accountability on his part). The way I was treated was very uncomfortable and I will not do business with this particular Guitar Center. I felt discriminated against and mistreated as a customer. My friend who tested the bass also claims he has had several experiences with them also and he was always ignored by staff. He also told me when he would plug in the guitars to a amp they would unplug him and say he is to loud without asking him. read more

Guitar Center seriously deserves to go bankrupt. If ever there was a store That disrespected its customers. The workers are all conceited a**hats. The products all faulty. Worst of all they seem out to scam customers whenever they can. I bought a guitar via curbside pickup. Took it out to my car to find the truss was bent. high E and b string were buzzing, muted -- so essentially the guitar was busted. I went right back to the store (not within 10 minutes) and said "this guitar is busted. I didn't pay for a busted guitar. I want my money back." Apparently they aren't doing returns because of coronavirus. So dumb. They could have at least tested it before selling me a broke guitar and wasting so much of my time. Then when i came back a month later to return it I had to wait an hour in line. All around dreadful experience. As it seems to go whenever i buy gear here. In Conclusion: support your local music stores. Down with the evil empire. read more

Just drove 40 minutes to buy two gift cards and online says they're open at 10 am. We arrive and the hours posted on the door says 11 am. My mom called to let them know the hours online say 10 and Andrew the Operations Manager proceeds to tell my my mom "that's cool, you'll be waiting 40 more minutes." He was extremely rude and ignorant on the phone. Take your business elsewhere as this location evidently has more than enough customers and doesn't need the sales. Despite critical reviews of big box stores, I went to Guitar Center in Braintree after having been ignored by both employees at a private music store where I was the only customer. At Guitar Center, Vinny walked over to greet me before I'd completed one circuit around the room and asked how he could help. When I told him what I was looking for in a Taylor acoustic guitar, it only took him a second or two to say "I've got one." He knows his inventory! Vinny took me to the room where the better acoustic guitars are displayed, handed me the guitar and told me to play it. Said that he'd return in a little while. Yes, I bought the guitar. What more can I say? Vinny, I managed retail stores for many years and I wish I'd had more employees like you. And I'll see you after Christmas to buy an amplifier. Thanks again. read more

I recently brought an acoustic guitar that needed to be setup and they did a great job on it, I was very pleased. Very helpful friendly staff. Over the course of several weeks, I would spend hours at the store and Jeff would make himself available every time. I live in the city of Boston and I actually went a hour and a half out of my way because when I called and asked for help Dave was SUPER COOL and said, "COME ON IN!" Boy, I did not regret going because he hooked me up with three pieces I really needed even though he was busy helping another person out and sending an e-mail out and as soon as he was done with those two he swooped in, took care of me and got me my stuff! On December 14, 2019 I looked on-line to buy an acoustic guitar as a Christmas gift. I found the perfect one and because I'd rather buy it in person, I printed the page and brought it with me to the Braintree store. I was relieved to see that the store wasn't crowded at all. There were at most only 5 customers. I waited around a few minutes as I was ignored by staff who were chatting with each other and walking about. I started to ask one of them as he was walking past me and he pointed the room in the far right corner as he spoke over his shoulder without ever slowing down. So I entered a closed off room and there was one exasperated customer who looked hopefully when I entered and then even more exasperated when he realized I wasn't there to assist him. He told me he's been waiting there about 15 minutes. I looked around and the guitars there were expensive... much more than the kids guitar I was interested in. They had another room with even more expensive guitars. I waited another 10 minutes, and the guy who was ahead of me still had not been helped so I left. At home I ordered the guitar from them on-line. I was hopeful it would arrive by Christmas. However, it was not sent out for delivery until Dec. 30. I got a UPS tracking number which I checked the first week of January when I still hadn't received it. It seems the guitar was shipped from Ohio(?) and made it to Cincinnati where it went MIA. I called Guitar Center and was told to call UPS. Ok I called UPS and they didn't know what happened to it and told me to contact... Guitar Center. I was told it was probably lost in transit and I should wait to see if it turns up. I waited a week and then was told I needed to cancel that order and do a re-order. I did, but three weeks later still no guitar. I called and was told that I had been placed on the wrong list. Instead of ordering an in-stock guitar I was placed on a waiting list for guitars which had not yet arrived at Guitar Center. Ughh! So that order was canceled and I re-ordered from in-stock. I finally received my intended Christmas gift on February 4. It was out of tune and the strings were so close together that only someone with small hands and slender fingers can play it. read more

Unreal experience here - created drama and lied for no reason. I ordered a digital piano/keyboard online. It was being purchased used and shipped from a different store, to be picked up in Braintree. Got the email that it arrived but no call to pick it up - okay, fine, I call after a day and they confirm it's ready. Sweet! Drive over, sign the paperwork, haul out two giant boxes. I get home and unpack them and sure enough, parts are missing. Not like "oh, they forgot a screw", no like full blown no power cord, no adapter, and most importantly missing two brackets, meaning you couldn't actually assemble the damn thing. I call Braintree, knowing this is not their fault but the fault of the original store. At this point, their hands are totally clean, i'm legit just looking for advice. I spoke to two managers that same evening and they put me on hold for an hour (all good) while they called the original store. They told me, in very certain terms "The other store realized they left parts off as soon as they shipped it! They already packaged the smaller parts and shipped them to you, so you're all set!". Well, that's weird, I never gave my address when ordering, so I ask where it's being shipped to. They got a bit nervous and said they'd call back to confirm. Two days later, no call, I have an unusable piano. I call back, they say they'll call tomorrow "they'll be here all day" they said. Call back the next day, they say that the managers I spoke to originally are not there. At this point i'm annoyed so I call the original store that the product shipped from. I actually spoke to the guy that packaged it and he said "Yeah, I found no other parts, and I explicitly told them that when they called. I even sent them an email to confirm they know that nothing else is coming." So, bottom line, two managers lied about the whole thing hoping I wouldn't follow up, I guess? So you're wondering why this review got 2 stars? Well, enter Brandon - the most chill, helpful, honest, cooperative employee at this god-awful place. He apologized profusely, helped us get the piano out of the car for the return, processed the refund, and even helped walk us through the new keyboards. All they had to do was be up front about things, but no, they lied through their teeth. I did buy a new keyboard from Brandon, because he was awesome and did nothing but help. Don't sign up for lessons here unless you want to feel like you're being treated like trash. We went to buy a new guitar for my daughter. She tried a few and the one she liked had a little scratch. There was no other available in store and they did insist on having a new one shipped to us instead of giving us a discount. Ok! 5 days latter UPS delivers the guitar. BTW it is a Seagull guitar she had chosen. First the box is a Taylor box, with a Seagull inside! The right model. Actually the exact same she tried 5 days ago with the same scratch at the same place! No paperwork, no nothing in the box besides the guitar and wrapping paper. Really!!! 5 days to get the same guitar shipped from the same place! How come they ship used guitars from showrooms? How come they put a scratched guitar for shipping? Why is the guitar not in its original box with paperwork? They get one star for the full refund! The manager (or what they said was the highest ranked on site) did not really care about the story and tried to explain me why this is normal it happened! read more

I go to this store all the time and i wouldnt recommend any other one. Despite the negative reviews, if an employee isn't helping its because once they start helping someone thats "their" customer, they can only help ppl one at a time, as well as the work behind the scenes. If u can accept that to deal with whatever wait times u have, the service is amazing. Once they get around to helping they are very knowledgeable and helpful. Went in to buy electronic drum kit, left feeling offended and angry..! I was looking at the drums and the guy came up and asked if I needed help. I told him that the kit I was interested in didn't seem to be working. He took a quick look and fixed the cord that wasn't plugged in. Great! Now it worked. But then he says "here, let me set it up for you." , and then futzes around with the pads for a few minutes. Okay, fine, whatever. But then he starts actually playing, while I'm sitting there like "wtf??"...! Eventually I just couldn't take this guy sitting there trying to show off, (it should be noted, I am a female..) so I got up and grabbed my stuff and put my coat back on. Only then did he finally stop his douchey drum solo and say "all set for ya!". Ya know what? No thanks. I dropped the sticks back in the bucket and left and would rather take a gamble buying something online than deal wih pretentious d-bags in the music store. read more

I recently bought a used guitar from this Guitar Center and they pretty much dropped the ball on customer service. I am in NJ... so the guitar was shipped to me. I spoke to an Andrew in the guitar department. He sent me pics of the guitar to show some detail. I emailed him back telling him I wanted to order the guitar... I didn't hear back. I thought that was odd, but I called back the next day and placed the order with the store. when I got the guitar, I noticed that the trem bar was a completely different color than it should have been. It should have been gold, but I was sent a chrome trem bar. I emailed Andrew and told him that I wished for the correct trem to be shipped to me. He never responded. So I called back two days later. I spoke to Andrew and he said that since it was a used piece there wasn't anything he could/would do for me. He also said that he didn't check his email in the past few days? really? that's odd, you seemed to have no problem sending me an email at first, but you weren't going to follow up on it? I found that to be odd... what sales person wouldn't follow up on a lead? anyway, he put me into contact with a manger who told me that I was out of luck and I could go buy the piece somewhere else. So after spending over $300 at their store, they wouldn't do anything to "make me happy"? that's pretty lame customer service. I know that its not a lot, but I've spent tens of thousands of dollars at different guitar centers around the country. None of them have been this poor at trying to make me happy. They could have done something as easy as giving me a $10 refund to cover the cost that I would have to spend on buying a replacement, but that was too much for them to do. Had a terrible experience at this store today. Went in to take a look at a pre owned Taylor guitar. I had been watching it for a few weeks on the website. I asked the salesman if it could be discounted further and he said no but he would replace the grubby strings. I said well let me go home grab a few guitars that I might want to trade in. I came back about an hour later and that person was on break, so another person took his place and priced my used guitars. I was just about to buy the Taylor and trade mine in when I asked about the strings. The salesman said he cannot do that and the first salesman shouldn't have offered that. The store manager came over and rudely said they would not honor what the salesman told me. I asked him to reconsider honoring what I was told. He arrogantly said absolutely not and reiterated that the salesman was wrong to offer that. I said okay alright that's not a good way of doing business so I don't want it. This was not a cheap guitar ~$1000 also they would have made additional money reselling my used guitars. I don't even care about the strings. I would have bought the guitar if they weren't offered. It's the principle of it and how the situation was handled by their staff. I won't be going back any time soon. Oh and through the years I have purchased several amps, at least 7-10 guitars and various accessories. All this over a set of strings. This is a company on the verge of disappearing. I remember what Guitar Center was 10 years ago: Awesome gear, great customer service, and competitive prices. The BRAINTREE location is reminiscent of that time. I was just in last week getting my guitar worked on and periodically, salespeople gently checked in to see if I needed any further assistance. I've been in retail for 13 years and their customer service went a long way with me. The salespeople seem generally knowledgable when I've shopped here. Even the Guitar tech brought some very interesting points to my attention regarding my string selection on my Taylor. The Acoustic Guitar room has a fantastic selection with some newer models that are difficult to find. For an Acoustic Guitar enthusiast, this place has a nice variety. Living in Foxboro, I had previously chosen the Attleboro location which now seems to be generally getting worse and worse every time I walk in. I became use to being ignored by the staff and I began to lose the joy of even browsing until I discovered the Braintree location. Braintree is well stocked, organized, and CLEAN. The products usually are not beat up and out of tune. The stringed instruments in Braintree seem well maintained. My experience of playing the Guitars and Keyboards is enjoyable there. I have purchased several instruments from this location, and I will continue to drive further and give them my business! read more

I didn't buy an instrument but came in to peruse their inventory just for fun, and got a tour of the studio by a music teacher "Richie" who teaches piano, drums AND guitar. Usually I hate guitar center and I agree with all the one star reviews I have seen. But when you get good service for a change you should say it so here I am. I went in to get a re-string on Banjolele and the fix it guy was late which is something that seems to happen fairly often or at least the last few times I have been in. Dave Thompson or Thomas missed the last name came over after seeing me waiting for repair guy to come in for over 45 minutes and asked if he could help. He took a look and thought he could do it no problem and said to give him 15 minutes. 15 Minutes later he had to admit that a part of the stringing was above his skill level and he was very sorry. He said he would work on it, look up on the internet why this one string would not hold tension for him and I could pick it up later. Instead of doing a half ass job this guy stopped what he was doing and made sure he did it right for a 19 dollar re-string. Gotta respect that. read more

Went into this place yesterday to buy an amp for my acoustic along with a fishman pick up. the guy i spoke to on the phone (dave) who was going to help me with the transaction had left by the time i got there (wich is fine, i had arrived later than anticipated anyways). i approached the first employee i saw, a guy a named MATT who from the get-go acted as if he was too busy or just couldn't ne bothered (It was VERY quiet in there at that time as well, mind you) and right from jump it was like he hated that he had to "deal" with a customer. when i asked about dave he simply said "dave left" in a tone of hoping i would just walk away cuz he didnt want to deal with anyone..and tjat was it..no follow up of "but is there anything i can help you with?"..nope. Just a rude ASS from the start. I mentioned i was buying an amp & knew wich one i wanted but asked to be directed to the pick ups & he brought me over..he gave me a few broad strokes about the different pick ups, and i made my choice on wich to buy..oh i might as well add that while he was talking to me, another employee came over to him and said "hey man look at this" & proceeded to show him something humorous on his phone bcuz they both started laughing amongst themselves..really?..this is happening while a customer is trying to inquire about a product..you're at WORK..not in your living room drinking beers..like seriously..unprofessional af! i then tell him i know wich amp i want..i walk into tje acoustic room while he slowly wanders way behind me finally coming in. I point out the amp i want and i said "i was told its on sale from the original price since i was here last" & instEras of saying/doing something helpful he just looks at it & goes "yeah but i think that sale has ended" with a nothing type of pause afterward and basically Forces me 2 ask "well can u go into the system and look plz"?..like wtf dude..some initiative would be nice! anyways he looks it up and turns out i was right. moving on..he walks the amp up to the counter & i ask a SIMPLE question of "how long is the chord to the pick up bcuz the box doesn't specify" & with a total fu*king additude he says "how long do you need it to be"...again..coming off as pissed off bcuz im giving him "work" to do..i was patient with this ass clown but at that point i opened my mouth & said "dude, do you have a fu*king problem?"..it went back & forth & he tried to justify his complete lack of even remote customer service skills & that discussion ended with him telling me to leave the store & that he wouldn't make the sale because he felt "uncomfortable". HELL NO! i said "really? May i speak to your supervisor plz"? He went & approached tbe manager "Shawn" & instead of bringing him over, stood there & talked 2 him for like 4 minutes..end of the story is that shawn (who was a nice guy & accommodating despite the situation) rung me up & i walked away with my purchases. only reason im giving this place 2 stars is bcuz shawn was cool, & i like the acoustic room. Might only go back if in the area & its convenient. prolly go to Boston GC or south shore music in Weymouth landing for future dealings. so in closing, the store itself is very cool..but in terms of employee personell, they need to get their sh*t 2gether.
