Great gear and much knowledge gets the two stars only. Years ago I asked to be ordered a pair of Dimarzio Evolution pups. I waited two months then gave them a call. No one there seemed to remember my order. Ok no big deal, people make mistakes and this wasn't a big one. So I put my order IN AGAIN. Called back in two WEEKS and again no one had any clue about my order so I just hung up and went over to Walpole music down the street and they had my new pups in my guitar in one week and they sent it out to a tech. A few years later I was driving by again and decided to stop for some strings. I got three packs of strings at 6.99 each and somehow it came out to 26.00 dollars. I didn't do the math until I got home ( miles away not worth the drive back for a few dollars) and realized why I didn't get a receipt. Conclusion: if you're not dropping thousands of dollars there you're not a musician or customer in their eyes. read more

Seems targeted towards the hard rock & heavy-metal genres, but is also a place for anyone that wants higher quality stuff than you will find at a typical neighborhood music store. Chris helped me out for a solid two hours. He pointed out 5 guitars that fit my preferences and budget very well and then set me up on an amp, made sure it sounded the way i wanted it to, and double checked the setups on all 5 guitars, bringing them to me one by one when he was done so i could test them out. Chris Wasnt pushy at all and when i couldnt make a decision between the final two, he suggested i just come back tomorrow after ive thought about it. I came back the next day and talked with Nick, who was very pleasant and honored the prices Chris had offered the guitars to me for the day before. I ended up buying one of the guitars and nick asked if i wanted them to change the strings or setup before i took it home. Had a great, stress free experience here. If you play metal and youre looking for a guitar in the $1000+ range this place is absolutely a must see. Some of these guitars you can find here and there at different places but here they have a serious number of sweet metal guitars of all kinds right there in front of you, and you dont have to wade through the strats and gretsches. The majority (really all) of the guitars and gear at the axe palace are designed specifically to play heavy music. Giving this place 1 star because of the "weird metal guitars" is like if i gave a jazz shop 1 star because of the funny looking hollow body electric guitars. read more

Bought a $3000 new model ESP guitar on Reverb from this store. The item was listed as a pre-order and when I asked the seller when it'd be available he says April. I thought ok, I'm ok if it's a week or two late in a worst case scenario. Fast forward.. one week into May I ask where's my guitar? Took the seller a while to respond but says guitar is coming soon.. I kept asking and the guy became harder and harder to reach (surprise surprise). Now it's getting to July and no answer from the seller at all! I ask the seller for a refund.. no response. I contact Reverb thinking this is pretty straight forward - buyer ghosted me, nothing received or shipped. But no - they tell me they'll send an email to the buyer - and "you'll get your refund .. soon". What?! So I give it their 4 days or whatever BS is in their buyer protection policy and hear nothing.. contact a second person about the same issue.. he says "I'll deal with this right now so sorry". 2 days pass.. nothing! I send an additional email to Reverb being very blatant about wanting my refund back. Still nothing back. Don't know why this store is rated so high on Reverb because the rep that spoke with me in the beginning was NOT transparent at all and to this day still have not received my money back. read more

Frequently offers to sell guitars with upgraded pickups simply for the price of the pickups. Seems great....except for the fact that he keeps the original pickups and sells those as well, thus he makes more money while you pay more as well (assuming you would sell the extra pickups on your own to offset some of the cost). This is a legitimate complaint and it has happened to me three times. His public political rantings are low brow and off putting. He (Nick) is entitled to his opinion as is everyone else. He has made it clear that he does not care how his beliefs impact his business and that is his choice--just as it is my choice to write this review. He does not distance himself from the axe palace nor does he make any claim that his views are not that of his company's. For these reasons I will never purchase another guitar from him. read more

They have phenomenal gear to choose from, but the staff are very odd. They seem like they don't wanna be bothered but as soon as you're interested in something they're right there to take your money! They try to push you on things they like rather than something you like or prefer. As far as knowledge, it's a hit or miss. They think they know everything but they really don't. They will shoot anything you say down, as a customer it's very rude an unsettling feeling. One of them had really bad breath which just made the experience that much worst! Just a dreadful atmosphere with stale personalities. If it wasn't for the high end gear, they wouldn't stay in business for long I assure you that. read more

Excellent customer service! I've only shopped over the phone with them due to me living on the West Coast, but Nick always offers the best service and has great product knowledge. I really wanted to like this place. I stopped by to ask about some pickups they carry. I'm always a little wary of talking to "authorized dealers" about things because you never know if you're going to get legit advice or a commercial. I got a commercial. Also the fellow who gave me the commercial (who butted into the conversation that I was having with another fellow there) was very condescending, and treated me like I didn't know anything about guitars or pickups, despite the fact that I've probably been playing longer than he's been alive. He didn't listen to what I wanted, and flatly denied the criticisms that I mentioned that other users have told me about. He also told me that they wouldn't not offer a refund on the pickups if I didn't like them, even though the manufacturer offers that in their warranty. On the plus side, they do have a very nice collection of high-end gear. But even if they had exactly the item I wanted, I wouldn't buy it from them. Why deal with jerks when you can order online? read more

A hidden gem. The Axe Palace has all the high-end gear that the Guitar Centers of the world lack. The collection is metal oriented, but if you're looking for Jackson/ESP/Mesa/ENGL and the like, there isn't really a better place. The two gentlemen were very helpful when I had questions and knew when to step back and just let me play. It is a weird place, in a back alley basement of a building. Definitely a metal head guitar store with mainly high gain amps and more metal geared guitars. Large collection of PRS and some Musicman gear, which is hard to find. Definitely some more expensive gear than say guitar center. The staff is sort of odd. The Axe Palace is a fantastic musical instrument dealer. Its hard to find a well stocked store with high end gear and knowledgeable staff. I called the store to order a custom shop Jackson King V and Nick was very helpful when it came to the selection process on the entire guitar. He didn't try to up sell me once in the entire process, which is very hard to find in any instrument dealer. He knew what he was talking about and made sure the process was nice and easy. He spent over 30 mins on our first phone call just answering my questions about some guitar stuff. Great guy and great store.
