Worst Establishment I've seen. I walked in to the store looking for a pack of guitar strings. Most of them are behind the counter so I needed an associate to assist me. for the first 20 minutes I was in the I hadn't seen a single employee in the whole store. I ended up walking around, grabbing 2 handfuls of stuff to buy, when a group that was there before me found an employee and asked where a guitar case was that they paid for and never got. He tries to help them and lines start to form at every register, for the one employee, while the other employee just peeks out of the back occasionally. I'm not upset with the employee's specifically, just the "management" that put that mess together and thinks it's alright. read more

The drummer guy with long hair/ear gauges was an ass. I asked him to give me a little snippet of something cool on the drums,like for just a minute (cause I wanna become a drummer) and he was like. In the past guitar center has never done me wrong. But recently it has just done that. I went to trade in a pedal that was worth $230 and they tried to give me $80 I also brought in a guitar that was worth over $1500 and they decided to give me $600 thankfully I'm not dumb enough to fall for their offer and took it home. The customer service was bad as always and the low ball offer was not appreciated so I will be taking my business elsewhere and I hope others do too. read more

Today, I'm very happy to report that I had a Positive experience with the Morse Rd Guitar Center. I got the pleasure of working with Quay in the Pro Audio department selling and buying equipment. His knowledge of Yamaha and Roland keyboards really showed in addition to his research skills when making purchase offers on the gear I brought in. Quay will definitely make sure you get what you need in a timely fashion even on a busy Saturday. I'm very excited to see a boost in enthusiasm and energy from the Pro Audio staff. Twice I have been in this location. Both times, in excess of 15 minutes. Both times, I was completely ignored by the staff. I don't *think* I look like I don't have any money to spend . . . I was looking at buying an e-drum kit that only two stores carry - the Alesis Crimson. They actually had a floor model set up (in a rather neglected state), but no one around to ask questions. I'm still thinking that this exclusive offering would be the right choice, but I can't see the point in celebrating the fact that no one seemed interested in selling anything. Just looking up and saying 'hey' when a customer walks in (ant there were all of 4 customers milling around in the store at the time) goes a long way. (Come to think of it, the first time I walked into the store, I was ignored by the clerk at the display case. Apparently, he knew the person who walked in behind me a bit later, since he *did* take a moment to greet him.) To recap - good stuff, great prices, but really lousy service. I really liked that drum set, but I can't bring myself to buy it there. read more

Gasp .... walking in a music wonderland.... This place is amazing. I can literally wander around here for hours. Any sort of instrument you could possibly want - whatever sound you are looking to get - you can get it here. They have an amazing selection with a wide range of prices. Used and new instruments - amps and accessories - galore adorn every nook and cranny of this enormous space. Staff here are so helpful and knowledgeable. I've been to Guitar Center a handful of times with my boyfriend, who is a guitar connoisseur and music in general. I've found that the staff there is all relatively helpful and friendly- they'll get a guitar down for you and give you a pick to play with. On slower days some of the guys get pushy, and you can tell they're trying to make commission. But, respectably, its their job and they've got bills to pay too. I went in looking for an acoustic guitar, and I had something very particular in mind. Being a girl, I prefer the auditorium style body versus the dreadnought and was looking for either a Martin or a Taylor. The staff was helpful and didn't bother me and my boyfriend as we tried several different models. Guitar Center is a great place to buy music accessories or if you're looking for something more general. If you're looking for something more specific, it will definitely be hit or miss. Plus PA equipment, cords, amps, and you name it. I didn't play but I did browse around quite a while and everyone was very friendly. It'd be a great place to shop. read more

This place is cool. The workers suck. I work at a music school and I. The last TWO WEEKS I've called and had the WORST experience with whoever answers the phone. My school wanted to buy drums sets, they said they had none in stock which I thought was curious. I called today to ask about guitars and the guy on the phone was so rude it actually made me laugh. They just lost like 20k of money and we will be buying all of our equipment at Sam Ash. Go there and they will actually take time to help you, and won't lie about being out of equipment so they don't have to look. Oh and don't ask anybody at guitar center to play a guitar for you to hear the sound, they "don't get paid to play instruments." Just incredible. I had a great experience here when my wife and I went to purchase some new instruments for ourselves. The salesmen were super helpful and -- here's the best part -- they worked hard to get us what we really wanted and needed. As beginners, we don't need the most expensive gear, and the salesman that helped us totally understood. He didn't try to push anything on us. In fact, when I was contemplating the purchase of the case -- which was only $20, so it wasn't a big debate -- he suggested I just get a replacement plan for $17. With this plan if anything goes wrong with the instrument, even if I drop it, I can bring it in and have it replaced -- no questions asked. Sounds good to me. I'll be returning to this location for any other guitar-related purchases that may present themselves. read more

Usually good customer service and knowledge along with great selection but last couple times I've been here there has been a 20+ minute wait to check out, felt ignored while other workers fooled around with guitars or worked on non time essential tasks. My rating does not apply to their sales or trade-ins. I think they offer decent sales and fair trades. I purchased a brand new guitar there that needed a neck reset - as determined after I contacted the guitar manufacturer. The manufacturer said it was absolutely covered by warranty, and just to take it in. This store is a couple hours from where I live, so I called and spoke to their tech. He said something along the lines of, "Uhhhhhhh (long pause)... a neck reset is a lot of work, but I'll take a look at it." He took a look at it alright. The neck was already straight, but he insisted on cranking the truss rod until my neck had a prominent forward bow. That is not the proper way to correct an issue with a guitar's neck angle - especially if it is covered by warranty. When I reminded him that the manufacturer said the neck reset was covered by warranty, he shrugged his shoulders and tightened the truss rod again. No, again, that did not fix the issue... He said any setup work addressing "playing comfort" would cost $50. I ended up receiving the necessary shims and truss rod to make the repair and set it up properly myself. Also - here's something else notable about this store. When I was trying out guitars, I was not afraid to spend an hour or two playing everything in and out of my price range to get a feel for what was really the best choice. This is one of the Guitar Center stores where whenever I have shopped here (mostly on weekends) there were never any of those douchebag shredders coming in to crank every amp in the store up to 11 and grab a Jackson or a B.C. Rich and show everyone they have spent hours practicing a 5-note dorian mode pattern and can play it at 180 bpm. It is sort of a quiet store. I walked in absolutely certain that I would purchase a guitar, and had a few in mind that I read reviews about online. They didn't have a couple of those models in stock, so I made an effort to try as many as I could. A salesman on the floor kept walking in every ten or fifteen minutes and really pressuring me to buy something. He kept saying, "are you ready yet?" and "make up your mind?" creepily staring at me. I'm not sure if the floor staff get commission with their minimum wage or what, but I found that incredibly rude and it is worth noting before you go shop there. There is certainly a borderline between helping the customer and being creepy. My golden rule about Guitar Center - The more tats and piercings you have and the less you know about guitars, the more qualified you are to work there. Period. If you have a rainbow mohawk, they might just bump you straight to management. Take it or leave it guys. I would not get a guitar setup here (and for $50? Get out of here, you can get a better setup in Columbus for cheaper) but if you put up with these employees, you may just get a nice deal on a purchase or trade-in. read more

Guitar Sales Review- Inventory and selection of guitars is wide, but staff caters to more upscale electric players looking for a dream axe. The Ghost of Jimi Hendrix lingers there, kind of defining the store's forced quasi-blues/rock sub culture. The acoustic guitar room has a wide selection of steel string instruments and prices, but it's kind of self-serve. Yet staff are very good at letting you play different instruments without pressure. The store, due to corporate rules, is run like a car lot, with somewhat knowledgeable, overworked, and underpaid staff, who must depend on commissions to survive- which explains why sales staff are typically somewhat gruff and dollar motived, rather than being trained to build friendly relationships with customers. (Try returning items you purchased there and you'll see exactly what I mean. They scowl, and begrudgingly process the return, but never bother to take time with follow up questions, or give helpful suggestions on other items that might suit customers better. That's not the best sales policy.) By comparison, the sales staff at Sam Ash (down the street) treats customers way better as soon as you walk in! Lessons- as of the date of this review, Jonathan Ortega runs the music lesson department there, and he is a good people- a friendly, serious musician with deep customer service concerns. Bottom line- I'd recommend you go there for the constantly changing selection, and perhaps check them out for lessons. It's fun to go there to look around and try out stuff at your leisure. Don't buy hastily- Sales people there are as cold as ice about returns. Before you buy, maybe ask for the senior store manager directly, if you can, about discounts or return policy? He's a mature and reasonable guy who will treat you right to keep you satisfied. Happy guitar hunting! read more

The place for all musicians! After a terrible experience at Sam Ash Music this place was a breath of fresh air. I walked in kind of expecting to be treated substandard because I'm not a super good guitar player. I wasn't there two minutes when a guy, I believe The Manager, politely asked me what I was looking for. They were very busy! I told him an electric guitar so he escorted me to another salesman who was super nice helping me chose a guitar. We tried out many guitars and he was nice and very patient. Although they were packed, he took his time and didn't rush me. I finally decided on a Fender Stratocaster w/ Hard Case plus 25% OFF! Actually the same price for a P.O.S. Epiphone without a case at Sam Ash! Oh, they threw in extra strings and a few picks. Great shopping experience!! Thanks Jim!! read more

Maybe it's just me but every time I go in here I have a terrible experience, most of the employees don't have the info I need and are unhelpful. My latest experience: I almost bought a used Vox amp for at home practices for $179 but was told I'd have to wait because there was a police hold on it and I would have waited 10 more days after paying for it. impulse kicked in and I went to Sam Ash they had a better one and were much more knowledgeable. To the point the place is ran like a car dealership, the employees run on commission, and they are good at it. read more

I came by a few time because I was in town. I have to say. WOW, Dayton has something to brag about. It is the same chain store, but feels so suffocating, compared to the Dayton store. The staff was just as helpful, and I did like that the Columbus store had more (high school) band supplies, (hint hint Datyon) but over all it was a little to packed. please expand! read more

I'm actually pretty fond of Guitar Center. For the most part the staff is really friendly and always willing to help! It's nice that you an get a good look at the gear before you buy. I got my Fender electric there and I'm really pleased. One secret... Always have a coupon. Get on their email list because they periodically send good specials. They'll also honor Sam Ash's coupons as well as some other retailers. With this in mind, their pricing gets a lot better. Overall I'm a regular customer and highly recommend this location. read more

VERY EXPENSIVE. Staff isn't very helpful if they think you do not have money. The store is very condensed, so much that you feel claustrophobic walking thru. The store is however fairly clean. I would try looking at other places for items, rather then going here. Amazon would be a good place to start, you would just have to wait a little longer to have your items shipped to you. read more

I f they don't have it in stock, they can usually get it in a couple days and match any price you can find. Mike always goes the extra mile for me to make sure I'm getting exactly what I need. He recently had another store ship an item to this store for me to pick up since the only one they had was out of box and just to make me happy he got me one factory sealed at as low of a price anywhere on the net. Even if it's not in their store, get it from guitar center and they will call you THE DAY it gets there so you can come pick it up. Yeah, there is a lot of noise, yeah they get busy, why do you think they are so busy? NOBODY beats their customer service so don't be a prude if they don't have it in stock, order what you want!! read more

Stay away from the new guitar tech. Some fairer skinned kid with dark hair. Worst restring job I have ever had! I have a Ibanez electic with a double locking trem that I bought here in like 2004. But the guitar tech who worked there in 2010 (who I think moved out West) blocked the trem such that it works like a fixed bridge. So, I basically just wanted my guitar to be restrung and cleaned, which they customarily do when they restring the guitar. I told him this when I dropped my guitar off. He was busy, sort of igorned me, and said he wouldn't be able to get to it until later. I went back a day later and he still had not restrung my guitar. Although he did it then, he rushed through the job and did not clean my guitar. It is still dirty and the fretboard is bone dry. Also, I think he overcharged me because, including strings, I paid over $30 and, since my guitar functions like one with a fixed bridge, I think he should have charged me the $10 fee for restringing guitars with fixed bridges. To compoud matters, the action on my guitar seems higher than it was before. I'll never work with this kid again. read more

if you look you can find some nice instruments here but the loudness can get old very quickly it seems like every kid in town has got to play a heavy metal song at full blast to see if this is the right pick or strap for them. this is a great store to get a beginer instrument around $100-$200 and they do carry some nice old used instruments at $3000+ but it is also a store where a guitar player needs to know exactly what the difference between a $600 and a $1800 guitar really is. look at the floor models carefully some of them are in bad shape and if the guitar is from the back tune it up and play it before buying. one other thing i have noticed that the accoustic rooms are very nice but because of the way the rooms are, instruments sound better in there than they really are. if your looking for a high end accoustic take it out on the main floor and try it out to see if it really has the same sound coming form it that you heard in the little rooms. all that being said i have bought some great instruments there including guitars mandolins and banjos from this guitar center read more
