I'll start with reality: it's easy to give five stars when things go well. That's what happened this time out. They had a U.S. made Tele I was interested. It had been sitting, unloved and unwanted for a few weeks. I don't understand it- it should have been snatched up already. Pristine, US made, amazing price. But there she was, the wallflower needing a nice guy to dance with. I had to have her. The staff was great to work with. They let me use any amp I wanted, didn't hassle me on volume, even complimented a few of my licks. When it was time for purchase, they gave me a very fair trade value (exceeding the next closest GC by $150), got me out the door quickly, reminded me of the 45 day try out period, and wished me well. The Tele is a dream. I'm super happy. But this has been my typical experience with this GC location. They often have a good selection of used gear (though it's a bit sparse post the Memorial Day used gear blow out). And even when a little short staffed, they are polite. Always been a fan. From Arlington TX to Marietta GA, I own 3 guitars from Guitar Center. Have always enjoyed going in for strings, picks, and noodling on various equipment. But now, I've finally used them to re-string and tweak my Les Paul setup. Could not be happier with the tech! I had some string buzz that concerned me and didn't feel comfortable getting into intricacies to "fix" the issue. Fearing the worst... i carried my Les Paul to Matt Stotler at the Marietta location. He promptly had my instrument in great shape with a quick re-string and a minor adjustment in a fret that eliminated my buzzing issues. Extremely unprofessional employee. Called to ask about a replacement part for my guitar. The kid that answered kept telling me "you can Google it" or "Google has that answer". Very specific example- my husband asked if he had the Kennesaw locations number (it is not listed on the maps app) and he said "Google has their number". Husband hung up on him. After another abysmal experience at the Alpharetta location.....I employe you to understand that one location does not indicate the company! After being told that I needed a "Platinum set-up on my guitar and that they were three weeks in back log" I began calling around and found the Marietta location and spoke with Matt Stotier and he assured me that he would stay into his lunch break and wait for me! I was in and out in 25 minutes with a full setup, new strings and tuned up very nicely!!! I will now forever drive farther to work with Matt and his management team! This store is awesome. read more

Please is just horrible. Extremely dirty to start. I went to return a less than $200 item and was told after 45 days I needed to return it to the manufacturer. Got no help when I asked how or why? When I pressed for an answer I got "just look it up on the internet." I have unfortunately spent almost $20,000 at this company in the last two years. I was told they could see how much I spent but it didn't matter. So many other places to buy things. Goodbye Guitar Center for life! I'll never be back. I came in to buy a female to female xlr cable when it was not necessary at all. Greg was an amazing help and even climbed on a ladder to check out the midi output for an Alesis drum set to make sure I was buying the right cable. Guitar Center will flat out lie to your face about whether they're selling you used merchandise. Drove an hour out to the store because they told me the midi controller I wanted was in stock, new, unopened. Got to the store, the box was opened and PARTS WERE MISSING. $200 worth of software that was supposed to be included, nowhere to be found. Documentation, gone. Sales guy insisted that it was still new because "The guy that bought it returned it like the next day." What about all the missing stuff? "Sorry, man." read more

Guitar Center sold me a defective audio interface and refused to allow me return it (with receipt, box and product in perfect condition with stickers still on it) because I was 2 days past their short return policy. It was only used to try and troubleshoot the issues it had out of the box. Other retailers online or in person would allow for returns, would not recommend. read more

I've passed by this place so many times because it happens to be right next door to my favorite store: Burlington Coat Factory, but I never had a reason to go in. A couple weeks ago, I was looking for a keyboard for my seven year old niece for Christmas and after visiting several places unsuccessfully, someone suggested "Guitar Center". Had it not been suggested to me, I never would've imagined they carried anything other than guitars. But they do people, they do! Of course their guitar selection is beautiful and impressive but they also have a super collection of keyboards and other instruments, books, sheet music, records and more! I couldn't find the exact keyboard I wanted to buy in the store. It was more of a simple, beginner's keyboard (because she's 7 and just learning to play) but the employee who helped me said that GW doesn't really carry beginner instruments--more like intermediate and up. He suggested a keyboard they had in stock that was much more nicer than I had in mind and much higher in price. He said she could grow into it and have this same keyboard for years as opposed to having to switch over to a new keyboard once she outgrew the other one.Plus, the PRICE MATCH so he actually looked for a lower price for me on a competitior website and found one for me. and That made sense to me but I needed to think about it so I told him I'd come back later if I decided to go with it. He said, "no problem, I'll be here all day." Sure enough, I came back only an hour later, ready to purchase. I looked for the employee who had originally helped me since he already knew what I wanted and had looked up the lower price for me and everything. Well, when I asked for him I was told he was on break. Ok, fine, so I just re-explained everything to the employee standing in front of me but I couldn't remember the site the other guy found and this employee wasn't as accommodating and didn't offer to search for me, so I did it myself. I found the price I was looking for and showed it to the employee. He then said that he would need a manager's approval. Okay, no problem. He went to the front and called for a manager. No one came. A minute or two later, he called again. No one came. All this time I was awkwardly looking around the store, while my mom was waiting in the car mind you, and hoping I could get done in the next few minutes. Another employee came over a few minutes later and my guy asked him where all the managers were, to which he replied: "they're probably all outside smoking again." Umm, 1) why are all the managers on break at the same time, "having a smoke?" 2) And maybe you don't want to say that out loud while a customer's waiting wanting to be helped. Finally the employee called a supervisor or someone else and they authorized the sale. Before paying for the keyboard they tried to convince me to buy a "survival pack" filled with very useful sounding add-ons like headphones, an adapter, software etc for an extra $35 OR they said, I could JUST buy the adapter (the keyboard didn't already come with one). Since I was already spending more than I bargained for I opted to just buy the adapter. But, wouldn't you know, they left to look for the charger but apparently didn't have JUST the adapter for this particular model in stock so I ended up buying the survival pack anyway. There was a Yelp check in offer of 15% off and, although I already figured what the answer would be, I still asked anyway if I could combine the price match offer and the 15% off. The other employee, without even looking up from what he was doing, piped up with a very short "nope!" Okay, I figured. Still, it was kinda rude. In the end, I was happy with the final product of the keyboard and in the end I was happy that I bought the survival pack. The store was beautiful inside and they seem to have a great selection but, the customer service could be improved a bit. read more

I travel a lot and have visited many Guitar Center locations. This is certainly one of the best locations I have been to in a while. The store is in it's own building and not squeezed into a strip mall, which means lots of parking, which also means the interior is not cramped. Plenty of floor space. The staff are friendly and helpful, but not pushy. I took some older amplifiers in to trade-in for store credit to buy a new keyboard. The lady at the front desk greeted me warmly, and when I explained what I needed to do, she called someone up to assist me. It ended up being the department manager, Wilson, who assisted me with the rest of my transaction. I feel like a got a fair price for my used equipment. It was a wonderful experience and I left the store feeling very good about my new purchase, which is how I prefer to feel when leaving any music store. Great Job!!! read more

Look, I've done over $2K worth of biz with this store and there are some nice guys working there. But they are all fundamentally hostage to a corporate framework that is not exactly consumer friendly. Case in point, the constant up-sell on the warranties. I've repeatedly had guys try to sell me a warranty on a used BOSS stompbox that EVERYONE knows is gonna be functionally indestructible. Not cool. Worse, the hidden manufacturer incentives that have salesmen steering buyers to certain gear that might not necessarily be the best fit for them. I've seen it over and over again. Bottomline, you need to educate yourself about prices and options before you set foot in one of these stores -- or any musical instrument store, really. Think of it as going to buy a car. And no, you don't want the undercoating. read more

I love visiting this location. It's like a musician's (or wanna be musician's) toyland. Lots to see and noodle around with. I usually go in to pick up items purchased online, and on occasion they are seemingly overwhelmed by all the customer foot traffic which makes it difficult to be helped immediately. But it's nothing too outrageous (certainly in comparison to the lines and wait times at Walmart for example), and I often find it gives me a chance to check out some gear until I am helped. But once I have an associate's attention they are warm, funny, knowledgeable, helpful, and supportive. By far my favorite music store in the surrounding area. I'm always receiving coupons and other discounts in my email which certainly helps getting me to come back again and again. read more

What can a say about my experience with Guitar Center in Marietta? Easy answer....THEY SUCK. I ordered a Mexican made HSS Stratocaster on the phone from them. I thought it was a good deal. I spoke with a Guitar Center representative by the name of Chris Kent. Mr. Kent advised me "Yeah man we can hook you up with one of those. I paid for the guitar on the phone...my mistake. I was advised that this guitar was not in the store and one would be ordered. I paid 360 bucks. Time passed and I was notified that my guitar had arrived. I when to the store that same day to pick it up. I live about 50 miles from the store. I arrived....signed for it...and walked out. On the way to my car I noticed how lightweight the box felt. Even with the shipping package included the whole thing felt to light. I decided open it since I live so far away I wanted to make sure I was getting what I paid for. I opened the box, and it looked like what I ordered a silver burst hss stratocaster. Only one problem...THE DAMN THING SAID MADE IN CHINA. I was pissed. I walked back into the store and advised the "wonderful" staff of my problem. They acted like it was not big deal ! They told me that it was a good guitar and I got what I ordered. I told them that I spoke with Mr. KENT on the phone and he advised me that I was getting a Made in Mexico stratocaster not a Made in China. Anyone that plays and reads this knows the difference. Its a big difference, and of course its not a made in America stratocaster. I cant afford one made in America. Ive owned a Mexican stratocaster for 20 years, and it been a great guitar. I pleaded my case, and in return I got a don't give a crap attitude in return. I was in uniform coming from a major metro area fire department so I couldn't really protest like I wanted to. I ended not getting what I wanted. I got my money back, and ended buying a used Mexican HSs stratocaster. I felt like I should have been able to get what I was told I was ordered. Not one single piece of packing invoice, order form, or receipt said Made in China. I feel like I was misled by not being told what I was buying. Im not surprised...I know they make money of commission of sales. But think about it... thats like working a deal on a car and thinking that your buying a ford and you get there and its a honda. I will say that the store is a great place for supplies like pics, cables, etc. But if you want to buy a guitar. I suggest not going the route I did. Im going back to the old school way. The way I found alot of good stuff. I use to go to pawn shops, yard sales, and private owned stores. Ive found a lot of good guitars this way. I will never be in that store again or deal with them in any way. They have gotten to big for their own good and have forgotten what costumer service is all about. read more

This place is hopeless...I've used Guitar Center as my primary music store for about a decade. The place is filthy and there is never working in the department that you need assistance. You have to stand around and wait for 20 minutes for someone to become available and when they do become available they have no experience in the area you have questions. The pricing is not on par with on-line retailers and you have to haggle for a discount on every purchase. In specific to the percussion/drum department its virtually worthless. If you want to audition cymbals (1.5-2k investment) give it up. Every time I've been in there is someone using the drum section as a place to practice or show off their chops. It makes it impossible to actually hear the cymbals you want to purchase. If it isnt a customer its an employee joining in the fun and banging on instruments. I dont expect a completely quiet environment as its a music store but this place is literally ridiculous. You may as well buy on line because there is literally no use in getting your hands on and or attempting to listen to an instrument in person. In addition any of the "over flow cymbals" are held vertically in a metal bar container. Its virtually impossible to view the cymbals in the container and all of the cymbals are severely scratched up from being in this container. Its the exact opposite of an ideal container for cymbals... In closing I called prior to a visit and asked about 6 different cymbals and validated they had them in stock prior to driving 45 minutes to get to this place. After confirming availability they had 2 of the 6 cymbals....There is another major retailer in Atlanta that I visited and its the exact opposite of guitar center. Its as if this other retailer visited Guitar Center, documented everything wrong and fixed it. I wont mention the retailers name in the fear that others might think Im an employee or invested in the company in some manner. read more

I have always loved Guitar Center as a store. I'm not sure if they have gone down hill or if this store in particular is just awful. I went last year to purchase a guitar for Christmas for my child. There was an issue while paying, I was asked to move from register to register because of register "problems" so I was worried my order did not go through despite receiving confirmation that it did. Reason being that my order never arrived. I tried at first to talk to Customer Service but they wanted to go through some long investigation phase which under normal circumstances would be no issue however Christmas was approaching and I just needed a replacement. After all, my child really enjoyed the one we found here. After a lot of back and forth I decided that I would just dispute it with the credit card company who backs my purchases in hopes that we can find an adequate replacement in time (they said this was the last in stock, how convenient.) After the dispute process we received a letter in the mail that Guitar Center submitted this to a credit agency for collection. Amazing! A year later I am still going through it with them eventhough they apologized admitting their mistake and said they would have it removed. Lo and behold, it is still there and dinged my credit. All I have to say is that if it is not removed immediately (and I mean immediately!) I am going to speak to an attorney because this is fraudulent. read more

I rented a bass from this location. Somehow it took over 30 minutes from requesting to rent a bass... any bass, just get me one quick,.. to final completion of the transaction. They have all spent quite a bit of time working with me. Of course, they get very busy at times but always are polite in asking if they can take care of someone on the phone. My husband did business with this store and the whole process seemed shady. First he had to go from register to register with his credit card saying the computer system was messed up resulting in them saying they manually had to enter the credit card information in the system after reassuring him that the order was placed. He later got an email stating that the order was delivered but didnt have the product. That all took place a week before Christmas. Second, after he told them the order was not received, they replied that an investigation would take almost 30 days. Because it was not received and no replacement was mailed (nor further contact from guitar center or currier) he contacted the credit card company to dispute the charge. Now (nearly 60 days later) he receives an email threatening to send it to collections which is illegal. We didnt receive the item, clearly we paid for it. Take this as a warning these people are criminals. No wonder nobody wants to do business with them. There are other far more reputable retailers to get your instruments or musical needs met and Guitar Centers prices arent even that good. read more
