My daughter has been asking for a drum set and I steadfastly denied the request. With Christmas almost here I tucked my tail between my legs and got her a set. Saturday evening at this place was bananas! I walk in with a younger employee- looks to be 18/20.. We cautiously walk to the back of the store. I wanted a kids drum set (thinking it would save me a few hundred) The young guy that I walked back with was excellent with his explanation about why getting a kid set would most likely be too small. WaAH! He gave me so much info. He gave me honest feedback and I think it took us maybe 15 minutes to decide on an adult size electric set. It was on sale, she can add her headphones and I don't need to hear it. Honestly, that's how it should work!! He didn't push us into a $800 set (goodness- that's cheap) He was open, honest, and gave me excellent feedback. I would not hesitate to walk in and buy from here again. If they play games with writing me a check when my gear is under a grand just because I come there alot and say oh were out of cash on hand when I literally called there 10 min before and asked if they had cash for my 3 400 $ item then im going to district manager then corporate because there not following what there site says that if its under a grand they pay you cash. And they give me a check and say cash it in 24 hours so I did that, I tried, tried twice to where they wouldn't cash it anymore because thought it was a fake hand written check because they didn't enter my check in the system even after 24 hours so I had to drive an hour back down there and decided to just get trade in value because they magically didnt have cash on hand again and there playing FKIN games with me just because I come there alot. I always have a great experience at the Detroit store. I try to stop by often to see what they have for used gear. They have a great selection and Indigo always does a great job stocking hard to find items. My advice be patient if they are busy. I will never buy anything here again !!! I purchaseda piano on their website for a store pickup. Was told that they would call when it was ready for puckup.. waited a day and a half . Decided to go to the store closest to me which is the Roseville store. They said that apparently somebody sold it. So I cancelled the order.. but I found one on display that I liked better so I ordered it and they gave me a good discount for their screw up. I got my confirmation email and it stated that they would email when the piano was on its way and to expect it the day after Christmas . never got that email so I decided to call Guitar Center to see what time it might be here, so I'd have time to take my tree down to make room. I was then told that it wouldnt be here until JULY! YES....JULY! So I cancelled and am looking elsewhere for a piano! I'm never stepping foot inside that store again !!!! What a joke read more

The guitar center has the worst customer service I have ever experienced no one greeted me as I walked by three employees. I went there to purchase speaker stands I got the speaker stand and calmly awaited as the sales associate got through taking an order over the phone and as he finished he literally looked at me with speaker stand on my possession ready to purchase and he walked away.I went to a counter by the door and asked what was the proper procedure for purchasing this item and he looked at me and stated that wasn't his department.I didn't ask who's department it was I asked how can I make a purchase. Four stars because the place is awesome. Who wouldn't love seeing walls full of beautiful guitars? The expensive guitars are all locked and you need someone to get them if you wanna play those ones. But everything else is available to test out. The staff there is a hit or miss. The two people I've encountered at their main checkout have been very nice and pleasant. The guitar tech on the other hand is anything but. Always seems to be in a bad mood and seems to have zero patience. Not the best experience but who knows, maybe he was just having a couple bad days. Overall, it's an awesome spot for musicians. I don't wanna put myself into that category, I'm a mere novice. read more

Bobby the store manager is a LIAR and also doesn't educate his staff on how to best help the customer leaving his employees to exacerbate guitar centers biggest problems. As you often see with businesses like this the store manager is the problem, the employees left in charge when he's gone don't know how to solve customer issues. Nor does it seem like they are comfortable contacting him when they don't know how to properly solve an expensive problem. Expect better from the GameStop across the parking lot, and that's saying something. If you have any problems you might as well start with calling corporate because like I said Bobby has no edge as a store manager and does not educate his employees on how to solve serious problems. If you buy a used guitar from guitar center and the neck has been broken off and glued back on with super glue... know how to make it right for your customer so they don't have to spend ANOTHER two hours on the phone with corporate. That being said corporate was able to navigate the exchange for a guitar of similar value and gave me a case that I was told by a previous phone employee they would. If you like buying near or thousand dollar plus instruments and having basic quality problems not reviewed to the point of having to spend hours on the phone sorting it out, buy from guitar center. I shop at guitar center a lot, but I will never go back into the guitar center at Roseville. They are rude. They really don't care while you're there. They just want you to buy something and leave when you return something you get dirty looks especially if you return it twice the listen to rap music loud on the in-house PA system but they'll tell you to turn it down when you play rock 'n' roll or heavy-metal on the amplifiers they really don't care if you come in there or not they're still getting paid their hourly wage regardless the guitar center in Southfield has a soundproof room where you can test the amplifiers they are eager to help you they care about your purchases, and they seem to genuinely care about the people that come into the store . Don't let the guitar Center in Roseville give a bad name for all of the other guitar centers because all of the other ones are very good. It's just a Roseville Guitar center. Here's what I learned by going to this Guitar Center: 1. I really don't want to ever go into a Guitar Center again. 2. But if I'm forced to for some reason, I will only talk to people who are visibly over the age of 40 because, look, I get it, some day there skippy, you're gonna be a RAWK GOD and everything...but you're not. So drop the attitude, kill the pretentious behavior, and just shuffle your working-here-for-the-discount butt over without sarcasm, without eye rolling, and without condescension...because not only are you not the aforementioned RAWK GOD...but you're also a pretty crappy salesperson, too. However, once I escaped from Future Rawk God 1 and Future Rawk God 2, I found a guy who was really helpful back towards the back. A guy with more grey in his hair than I have. A guy who actually answered my questions, told me that no, they don't carry what I'm looking for, but he understands totally why I'm looking for what I'm looking for, and yeah, those kids really just won't be on the same page. However...where I even diverged from his path was when I had to say no, I really don't want you to special order them for me when it'll take 7 to 10 days when I can go ahead and order them online from where I was originally going to order them from until I decided to try to find someplace local for half the price of said special order and they'll be at my house in two days. And he even got that, so kudos to him. He's really the only thing saving this from being a one-star review. So yeah...not my speed, not my kinda place, really don't feel a need to come back. read more

I see why the reviews are horrible here. I'm visiting from South Carolina and noticed they had a couple guitars in stock that I've wanted to try. It took 18 minutes to get someone to help me out. The only reason I know the time is because I got a text from a friend as I walked in so I had a timestamp to go by. One employee was helping a dad and his son which I would never mind waiting for. That's what we want to see with our kids! Two other employees chatting with each other. I asked them if someone could unlock a couple acoustics for me and they seemed very annoyed. After 10 minutes waiting, they couldn't find the keys. The two guys went back to talking about other things for a bit more then finally someone else came out from the back who had keys. You'd think if you are shopping to buy two $1500 to $2500 guitars they'd be a bit more helpful. The person with the keys must have not been a sales person because they almost wanted to hand me the keys and go back to their other job. They flat out told me they didn't know much about the guitars in the room but I was happy they were helping me out. I let it pass. They had a few models I wanted to compare as I had never played a few of them. The guitar states on the tag and guitar centers own website that it comes with a case. They could not find the case that was supposed to come with the Taylor 224 Koa and wanted to give me a random $35 gigbag on the floor for it. Taylor cases run almost $200 and fit the guitar perfectly. No deal. The final straw was when they said they don't offer a basic setup with their guitars. Not even their high-end models. The strings were rusted, the action was buzzing, and I completely understand why. It's been sitting on a shelf and randomly played by passing strangers. The guitar was dirty and I could not see if it was damaged before buying it. I asked if they had a cloth to wipe it down and they flat out told me "why? we don't clean guitars here". When I told them it was dirty, his response was "how so?", and after I pointed it out he laughs saying "well, they are all floor models" and walked away. Never returned with a cloth or a wipe. I decided to pull chalks from this store and buy a guitar elsewhere. In fact, I bought this same guitar without rusted strings and a free setup from the Guitar Center in Irmo, SC about an hour from my house. To this GC manager -- your people could learn a thing or two from the sale reps in Irmo, SC. The difference is night and day. read more

Just started using a guitar in January of this year. I found they had guitar lessons for seniors so I went in April to it. I had quite a few questions and Kevin took his time to explain them. These were once a month and I had to miss the next two months because other things happening at the same day. When I checked back with Kevin he said corporate decided to end senior guitar lessons. He did give me a free lesson but I was looking forward to going there once a month. With it being senior lessons it was nice to be in a group around your same age. Hopefully corporate will change their minds soon and return senior lessons. I give you a hint, for seniors you might get a better turn out if you have it later in the day. I frequent this store a cpl times a month. The two star rating is purely about the staff. The two women that work here, Hayley and the one with dreads are the worst. If you don't want to work with the public or we are bothering you by simply just wanting to be cashed out, then please work somewhere else. A couple of the men are no better. A positive note : the employee, Jacob is the greatest guy. Never has been rude always very helpful and has a smile on his face. He's the only one we like dealing with. The older man who gives the once a month free kids guitar class is also a gem. Very nice guy. It just sucks when you come here frequently, spend your money and have to worry if the staff is going to treat you like crap. read more

When I go to this store it's because I already know what I want. After almost an hour and a half I left disappointed. It because they didn't have what I wanted but because the customer service sucks. I had the guitar I wanted in hand, 2 others picked out for my boys and a uke for a secret Santa gift. Now the sales guy that I finally stopped by blocking his path was nice and got me the first guitar I needed. But with the fret buzz, I had some questions. 40 minutes to get assistance and another 45 minutes waiting for someone to come back and help me finish out my shopping. I have purchased many items over the years here. But if I were a corporate, I would just close this store and start over. The time wasted here I will never get back. And I knew I shouldn't even try to to it. But I wanted a guitar and some gift items. Well I'm empty handed and wasted my time. I went to this Guitar Center with the purpose of purchasing a guitar that day. I had cash in my pocket. I first wanted to play a few different models before making my decision, which is always an option at a GC Even if you're not buying, they don't care if you want to play around! When I had to choose between two, I attempted to engage a salesperson on the floor to ask some questions. I stopped three of them, stating I had questions, but each said they would, "Be right back," and never returned. I overheard one saying to another employee that so and so was a good customer, so take care of him first, even though I asked for assistance before he did. I get it, take care of those who write your paycheck. I spent over an hour in the store by this time, and had now asked for help five times. I decided to leave and purchase the guitar online, asking questions on forums. This was ridiculous. On my way out, I saw a salesperson I hadn't seen that day, so I stopped him. His name was Andrew, and he was incredibly helpful. He answered all of my questions - odd as they may have been - and helped me decide between a Gretsch hollow body with a Bigsby and one without. When I decided on the one without, he even took the experience a step further to look for one that had come in more recently, that hasn't been played. There wasn't, but I was ok with the one I was playing. I am the Customer Experience Trainer for a major automotive manufacturer in the Detroit area, and I focus on the Customer Experience (hence my title), and understanding how the customer would feel after their interaction. In this case, the interaction was in-store. My experience started off well, playing a few different guitars, but quickly escalated to a poor experience when employees would recognize me and the needs I had at the time. Andrew turned the experience around, and I purchased the guitar and a case for it. I rated this as a 4-star experience, but it would have been 2 if it weren't for the great employee of the store. read more

I'm a regular customer only because it's the only game around for variety and the prices are competitive. I've never been to national chain store, with employee's that could care less about their customers. The guitar tech is grumpiest and least helpful, he'll ignore you, then talk down to you, if you try to get down a guitar. The rest of the main staff are not much better. How corporate put's up with this is mind boggling. To be fair some of the young part timers try to please, then they go back to school. Back to square one. Just bought a used guitar and had it shipped to your store. I'm kind of disappointed in a couple things. First, I'm buying a used guitar that is around $1000. I'm told that to send it from one store to another there is no charge.... then after I get home I noticed that I was charged for shipping. I know it's not a lot of money but it's the point of it especially since I asked if they could waive the sales tax and they couldn't. Maybe it was obvious I wanted the guitar....I'm not good at haggling prices..... Second, I brought a guitar in for trade on the purchase. I know not every guitar is purchased that is brought in, but apparently when the selector switch was touched there was static so they passed. Fair enough, I hadn't played the guitar in a couple of years so this wasn't a shock. So I take it home and wondered to myself whether or not there was just some dust in it.... sure enough, I just blew into the switch and there isn't any more static..... at all. They had to know that a large portion of the time, dust is the culprit. If they just didn't want the guitar, that's fine, but come on. This is why your company is going under. I haven't made a major purchase here in 15 years other than to grab some strings or picks, this was why. read more

I came here to buy an electric drum set. I was waiting for my tax return before I could make my purchase. I was dealing with josh. (A$$hole). He never was very helpful, rude, and ignored me most of the time. I finally got my money back and come in to make a purchase. Then someone there was like "oh he's been working with you. Come back when he's here and he can help you out" Seriously? I took my business to another store. Josh then calls up the other store and cries like a little baby "I worked with him. I should get the commission". Oh was I pissed. I took my business somewhere else because he was a dick, rude, disrespectful, not helpful at all, ignored me, etc. I marched in there and told management. I should have called corporate or whatnot. I really hope he got fired or gets fired. I will never step foot in that store again because of him. They lost out on that 2,000 purchase and lost out on my 3,000 audio purchase because I refuse to do business there. read more

I've been coming to this store for roughly 17 years and have never been more irritated with staff in my life. I walked in found a guitar and settled in at a amp I was interested in buying and started to play at a respectful volume. With in 2 minutes a staff member came to the amp behind me to demo a guitar for another customer and CRANKED it to a volume that could only be described as a 16 year old who just learned to sweep pick volume. I couldn't even hear myself play. I'd expect that from a customer but not a staff member. Have a little respect..... read more
